In this episode of WWYD, an interracial couple (he is Latino, she is white) is verbally attacked in a restaurant — berated in such a way, you pray people like this don’t actually exist.  If you can stomach the “We need to stick to our own kind,” type of racist remarks from the antagonizing patron, you’ll will be rewarded…not once, not twice, but several times over until your heart explodes. Take a deep breath and watch.

Latinas Talk About Love At First Sight

Latinas Talk About Love At First Sight

Miramax

In an infamous scene in the 1992 book Like Water for Chocolate, the novel’s main characters Tita and Pedro swear their undying love for each other within minutes of first meeting. Just like that, they experienced love at first sight. Stories all throughout history have detailed the romantic personal experience of an instant and ultimately long-lasting romantic attraction for a stranger upon first sight. But how practical— or even true is that really?

We turned to our FIERCE readers to see just how prevalent this phenomenon is.

In a post to our Instagram page we asked Latinas for their love at first love stories.

And scavenged around Reddit for good measure. Check out what we discovered below!

“Yes. I had briefly met him before but it was the first time I ever really noticed him. We had a whirlwind romance and then he left to take a job in Europe. We kept in touch for a few years but never saw each other again. He is the gold standard I judge men by.” –

“We were both 18 going on 19. He was a second year science student, I was a fresh faced firstie at a brand new University. I was also 95% sure I was lesbian. I saw this goofy ginger at the outdoor movie theatre, he had Styrofoam strapped to his head and declared himself Julius Ceasar, and gave me the biggest and most genuine smile. When he asked my name, it was a genuine want not just a question you ask to fill time. My heart squeezed a bit, and we kept eye contact for a bit too long before we both turned back to the screen. The next day we ended up sitting across from eachother in the cafeteria, and as soon as I saw him sitting there with a grin on his gorgeous face I knew I could love him. We were attached at the hip for at least 8 hours every day for a month, it was like a need to be around eachother, a magnetic pull and attraction. We started dating after a few weeks. We both fell in love quickly. I never believed in love at first sight, but we fit together perfectly in every way and every day, even now as we’re 20 with a lot of growth and ‘relationship strainers’ under our belts there hasn’t been a day that’s gone by where I don’t think of him and fall further in love. We’ve fought a bit, met eachothers families, he’s held my hand in the hospital and I’ve held his. We’ve had the kids talk, marriage talk, finances talk, and we’re moving in together this summer. It’s also pretty great that we have the same taste in women. I have never been happier, and he tells me the same.”-HelloSchrodi

“We met at work, when we both locked eyes we were drawn to each other. After a week of flirting with each other and staring into her beautiful blue eyes, she actually asked ME out. We dated for 8 years and got engaged; being madly in love is perfection. She walked down the aisle about 13 months after she accepted my proposal. She gave birth to her first child 10 months later, and had her second 2 years after that. She’s very happy in her life. Kind of wished she married me instead of the dickhead she met a month after leaving me.” –UrMomLikesMine

“It was a whirlwind. Can’t really explain it. Distance and heavy workloads on both our parts (we couldn’t see each other at all one year) made us end it. Still best friends, still in a sort of a platonic bond. We’ve both seen other people since then (I’ve just had a bad experience), but I don’t think I’ve ever felt that kind of… ease around someone until months have passed. When she moves here in a few years, who knows? She never will, but if she asked me to wait. I’d say yes in a heasrtbeat.” –ionised

“Yes… now married 10 years.” – juju_bees_mommy

“Well for me it wasn’t at first sight. But for him it was. Within the first week he knew I would be the one he was going to marry and spend his life with. My feelings grew quickly also and we knew we had met our soul mate very quickly. We are doing great. He’s saving up for an engagement ring, both support eachother in our respective fields (me in tattoo artistry and him in filmmaking). Once our financial situation is in order we plan to move to Seattle. I have never been so in love and I don’t regret it for a second.”- BigHeroDicks

Updated September 28, 2020.

Three years have passed since Cardi B and Offset got married and quite a bit has happened for them in the interim. They’ve had a child, they’ve both managed to make Billboard music hits and come out with multiple albums. They’ve dealt with public spats, accusations of infidelity, breakups and reunions.

Earlier this month, Cardi announced that they’re officially ending it.

In a post shared to her Instagram LIVE in early September, Cardi B confirmed reports that she’d filed to divorce Offset.

Surprisingly, she even opened up about why. The rapper revealed that after being with Offset for four years, she “got tired of not seeing things eye to eye” and that she has “not shed not one tear” since making her decision.

Further referencing her decision to file, Cardi explained that “Every single time that this guy has been so crazy, so f—ed up and it hits the media, I’m always crying, always sad because I don’t like that type of s—,” she explained before going on to assert that “this time, I wasn’t crying. You want to know why? The reason for my divorce is not because of none of that s— that ever happened before. It’s not because of cheating. I’m seeing people be like, ‘Oh, he has a baby on the way.’ That’s a whole f—ing complete lie. That’s the second time people are trying to pin babies over here. No, that’s bulls—.”

Ultimately, the rapper admitted to growing tired of the dynamic of her relationship with her “Clout” collaborator.

“I just got tired of f—ing arguing,” she confessed. “I got tired of not seeing things eye to eye. When you feel like it’s just not the same anymore, before you actually get cheated on, I’d rather just leave.”

“Nothing crazy out of this world happened, sometimes people really do grow apart,” she admitted. “I been with this man for four years. I have a kid with this man, I have a household with this man…sometimes you’re just tired of the arguments and the build-up. You get tired sometimes and before something happens, you leave.”

Speaking about life after her announcement, Cardi B says she has prospects.

Speaking to her OnlyFans subscribers, the rapper said it’s not at all dry out there for a WAP. In a report by Billboard, Cardi admitted that she could “date any man I want” but that she’s not at all interested in starting anything new at the moment.

“I don’t actually want to date nobody. I’m so focused on my business that it’s crazy,” Cardi admitted revealing that her DMs are “flooded” with messages from prospects. She also commented on the stigma she might endure as a result of her decision. “You cannot hurt my feelings trying to throw the divorce in my face because, at the end of the day, I decided I wanted to leave,” she stated. “I didn’t wait until he cheated on me again. I didn’t wait [for] another controversy with him being involved. I decided to leave. If I wanted to stay, I could have stayed. I decided to leave.”

The “WAP rapper” filed for divorce from Offset earlier this month

Cardi filed for divorce from the Migos member on September 15. The divorce petition was filed with the Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta, Georgia.

“Offset and Cardi both continue to put Kulture first through this troubling time,” a source reportedly told Us Magazine. According to reports, the couple has a hearing set for Wednesday, November 4.

In December 2018, Cardi confirmed that she had split from Offset in an Instagram video where she claimed they “grew out of love.”

“So everybody been bugging me and everything and you know I’ve been trying to work things out with my baby’s father for a hot minute now,” Cardi said. “We are really good friends and we are really good business partners — you know he’s always somebody that I run to talk to, and we got a lot of love for each other — but things just haven’t been working out between us for a long time. It’s nobody fault I guess we just grew out of love, but we are not together anymore. It might take time to get a divorce and I’m going to always have a lot of love for him because he is my daughter’s father.”

At the time, Offset begged to be taken back and gave her a long apology on Instagram.

“I only got one birthday wish and that’s to get my wife back Cardi,” Offset revealed. “We’re going through a lot of things right now, a lot of things in the media. I want to apologize to you Cardi. I embarrassed you. I made you go crazy.”

Soon after, the couple reunited and made things official at the 2019 Grammys. As part of an interview with Vogue this past January, Cardi opened up about forgiving Offset’s infidelity.

“Everybody has issues,” Cardi explained. “I believe in forgiveness. I prayed on it. Me and my husband, we prayed on it. We had priests come to us. And we just came to an understanding like, bro, it’s really us against the world. He has my back for everything, I have his back for everything, so when you cheat, you’re betraying the person that has your back the most. ‘Why would you do that?’ We have come to a clear understanding. For me, monogamy is the only way. I’ll beat your ass if you cheat on me.”
