Latin music is clearly having a moment and it is a lasting moment. That is just a fact and the numbers how that. One of the most iconic moments of 2020, and one of the few pre-Covid moments, was J.Lo and Shakira’s Super Bowl half time show. This obviously led to a lot of searches on Google for…Shakira.
The Colombian singer had a strong start to 2020 with her Super Bowl performance with J.Lo. The show got a lot of people’s attention as people were stunned to see Latinas owning the stage. The FCC received thousands of calls complaining that the performance was overly sexual.
The kind of attention brought a lot of recognition to Shakira. We were then treated to months of behind the scene moments and learning what the two superstars talked about pre-show.
Shakira was more Googled this year than August Alsina, Adele, Doja Cat, and Grimes, who made up the rest of the top 5. This year saw some very specific searches because of Covid and it seems likely that Shakira’s popularity is tied to the Super Bowl performance. It was the only big event the U.S. was able to enjoy before the pandemic shut down the nation. With no federal response, the U.S. has been paused since March so that performance is the last moment of entertainment so many of us remember.
You have been rocking our ears for years. There hasn’t been a year that we haven’t been dancing to Shakira’s words whether they are in English or Spanish. From “Ciega, Sordomuda” to “Whenever, Wherever” to “La Bicicleta,” we love to enjoy Shakira’s music.
There were so many moments during this show that are everything to us. We got to see Puerto Rican pride and intense booty shaking that only Shakira and J.Lo could do. It was a good moment leading into the world we are all living in today.

Who needs TV when you have infamous the Naomi Campbell/Tyra Banks feud?
On Tuesday, Naomi Campbell shared an eyebrow-raising article with her 9.8 million followers on her Instagram stories. The article, entitled “Here’s Why Fans Are Starting To Think Tyra Banks Is The Real Mean Girl, Not Naomi Campbell”, came with the caption: “The woe-is-me Tyra narrative has definitely worn off.” It laid out an argument that Tyra Banks is the true villain of the two’s decades-long feud.
Banks has long spoken about the fraught relationship, telling pretty much anyone who would listen that Campbell tried to torpedoe her career before it ever really got off the ground.
Over the years, Banks hasn’t let up on the narrative that Campbell is the more evil of the two. Even last year, in an interview with Wall Street Journal, Banks continued to talk about the feud–long after the two had tried to put the whole thing to rest.
“It wasn’t a rivalry, and I’m very sensitive to that word because a rivalry is with two equals to me, whereas one was very dominant,” she said. “She was a supermodel, and I was just this new girl that had got on a plane from Paris and was studying fashion and magazines.”
She then added: “As much as I was booking fashion shows, people didn’t know I was going home at night crying my eyes out because the woman I was looking up to seemed like she just didn’t want me to be there and was doing everything in her power to make me go away,”
Banks has gotten heat lately after as savvy viewers have revisited old “America’s Next Top Model” episodes that have become available on Hulu and Amazon Prime.
Banks, who served as an executive producer and overall brainchild of the show for 24 seasons, was allegedly behind many problematic photoshoots and wildly inappropriate behavior towards newbie models.
Some photoshoots included blackface, putting them in dangerous situations, and pressuring them to pose nude. There were also a few instances where she gaslit contestants, shamed them for being gay, pressured them into permanently altering their appearance, and eliminated them for gaining weight.
There are two sides to every story, after all.
It’s definitely true that Naomi has never tried to hide her diva behavior, while Tyra has always peddled the narrative that she’s America’s sweetheart and a friend and mentor to up-and-coming models.
Honestly, at this point, the feud will probably will be going on until one of them is in the ground at this point. At least Ryan Murphy has more material for his anthology series.
In the end, we really don’t think either of these two women were angels. You don’t become a world famous supermodel, after all, by playing nice.
