CNN has just released footage of the raid in Los Mochis, Sinaloa that reportedly led to the capture of Mexican drug kingpin Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán. The video, which was released by the Mexican government to the Televisa network, begins with a shootout between El Chapo’s crew and Mexican marines. You can hear one of the marines yelling, “Aguas, aguas,” before the soldiers search the property from room to room. During the raid, one man is lowered to the ground as marines continue searching. Towards the end of the video, you can hear marines questioning a female detainee who is found in one of the bathrooms. You can also hear one of the marines report they have detained two men, two women and killed one male. However, the footage does not show the moment El Chapo was detained.

Earlier this year, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera was found guilty on all ten criminal counts in Brooklyn, New York. Since then, life hasn’t been all that bad for the former Mexican drug lord. His wife is launching a clothing line, and even though El Chapo’s team has complained about the unfair treatment at his prison and lack of outdoor time, it’s been manageable. He still faces sentencing later this month, which means El Chapo has yet to face the worse of it. So, it makes sense that he’s getting some sort of encouraging visits.
El Chapo’s mom, 91-year-old Consuelo Loera, got her visa approved to visit her son in prison.
The Independent is reporting that Loera got her visa approved to enter the United States after requesting it from the Mexican Embassy. They also say that Mexico’s president Andrés Manuel López Obrador fought to have her visit her son because he had “an empathy toward the elderly woman.”
El Chapo’s next court date is scheduled for June 25, where he faces sentencing. If he thinks his mom’s presence might persuade the judge to be lenient on his jail time, he should think again.
According to her attorney, Jose Luis González, Consuelo Loera proved to the government that she has the means to travel to the U.S. She also proved her reason to leave and travel back to Mexico.
Consuelo Loera told reporters she plans to bring El Chapo his favorite dish, enchiladas.
We had no idea, El Chapo was such a traditionalist when it came to Mexican food. We thought he might have requested a burrito or carne asada tacos.
Now, if the 91-year-old woman shows up in New York City, where is she going to cook up some enchiladas? She’s probably going to have to order take out. If that’s the case, do you have any recommendations on the best enchiladas in New York? Let us know!
On Feb. 12, a Brooklyn jury found Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán guilty on ten federal criminal counts and now faces life behind bars. The most infamous drug cartel leader of all-time made billions through his illegal operations. According to CNN when they read the verdict, El Chapo looked over to his wife, Emma Coronel Aispuro, smiled at her and “she smiled back and touched her hand to her heart.”
Outside the courthouse, reporters asked how her thoughts regarding the verdict, and she reportedly said: “Good, thank you.” She doesn’t seem too fazed that her husband will be locked up for good, and now we know why.
El Chapo’s wife is starting her own fashion line.
The 29-year-old has launched her LLC under her name, which means it’s completely separate from her husband’s illegal and financial issues. He will still be involved in some respects.
“I am very happy to be able to create something like this. I hope it’ll be something everyone likes,” she told the New York Daily News. “I will give it my best effort to make it good for everyone and within everyone’s reach,” she said. “I want to start with a line of caps, then I’ll begin to produce clothes, jackets.”
The 29-year-old said that the logo will include El Chapo’s name and some of his fashion sense
“During the process, as it evolves, I’ll see where my ideas take me,” she told the publication. “A little bit of my style and his style — it will be like a mixture of the two so that it really is our essence.”
