“Man, I just saw some crazy stuff right now.”
An Uber driver from Sacramento, Calif., says he helped local police save a teenage girl from a sex trafficking ring. The he went on Facebook Live to document it.
Keith Avila was starting his Uber shift when he reportedly picked up two woman and a teenage girl. He overheard them talking about a “John” and how much they would charge him. “John” is slang for a man who pays a prostitute for sex. Hearing this, Avila realized the teenage girl was likely involved in prostitution.
After he dropped off the three passengers at their hotel, Avila called the police. Once the police arrived, he began broadcasting on Facebook Live and detailed the situation.
“This girl looked like she was 12 years old,” said Avila. “I couldn’t just drive away.”
Police found the girl, who was only 16, in a hotel room with a 20-year-old man. The man was arrested on suspicion of sexual activity with a minor. The two women who were in the Uber with the teen were also arrested and charged with pimping and pandering.
Since the incident, Avila has posted several updates to his Facebook. He says officers thanked him for providing them important information related to the case.
