For Demi Lovato, the last four years have been a combination of struggle and success. This week she gets to celebrate four years of sobriety. You go girl!
At 19, Demi entered rehab.
When I shot this video, I didn't want it to be anything close to glamorous or anywhere near "sexy." I wanted it to be like nothing that I've ever put in the creative to a video I've shot. This song hurts. So unbelievably bad. And when I perform it on a tv show, in rehearsals or even in a bathtub, it completely takes me to a different place. This song was so therapeutic to write and record, and because of that I wanted to translate that same emotion onto the screen. I'm so grateful to everyone who was a part of this video and this song. And to all of you, thank you for listening.. And hopefully letting yourself be taken to a place in your heart that needs healing too. #STONECOLD
She checked in for a series of physical and emotional problems, including an eating disorder and cutting problems. But with the help and support of her family in the last four years, she’s remained stronger than ever.
The road to sobriety was long, but sharing with her fans helped her along the way.
“Honestly, I am thankful for my life path, including the highs and the lows, because it has caused my true self to shine through. Going to treatment was a gift and I believe it saved my life. I learned how to be strong and healthy even through struggles. It also helped me open up about my issues and share them with others. Knowing that my family, friends and fans accept me for who I am is the greatest feeling ever!” Demi wrote in her open letter in Seventeen magazine.
This week, in a series of tweets, the singer anticipated her anniversary:
I can't believe I have 4 years on Tuesday.. Anything is possible.

She also celebrated with a somber, yet thankful tweet:

She has so much to celebrate.
Lovato released her new album, aptly titled “Confidence” late last year, has slayed it over and over in performances and is currently on tour with Nick Jonas. Not bad…
By her side through it all? The man she loves…
I wish I could put into words how grateful I am for this man right here. But my love has grown to a level that words could never possibly express how much this man completes me. He's loved me the way I never thought I deserved to be loved and with this day marking my 3rd year sober… After sharing my ups, putting up with my downs and supporting my recovery… he still never takes credit and I want the world to know how incredible his soul is. I really wouldn't be alive today without him. I love you Wilmer ❤️
“He’s loved me the way I never thought I deserved to be loved and with this day marking my 3rd year sober…” she captioned the IG snap last year.
