Linares says he’s a Cuban baseball player looking for a shot at the Majors.

Linares, who claims he’s been playing baseball since he was 8 years old, says he’s confident he can impress the team with his skills. He told Los Angeles news station ABC 7: “If I didn’t know how great a baseball player I know I am, I wouldn’t be here trying to show off my skills to somebody.”

He says he was drawn to the Dodgers due to their history:

Linares cited Jackie Robinson, Major League Baseball’s first black player, as an inspiration.

He says Dodger fans have been giving him food and water.

Linares told Conejo Films, “It has allowed me to survive.”

Cool story, right? It could all be false.

Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com, an expert on Latin American players, says there is no record of Linares playing organized baseball in Cuba. ABC 7 News reported the Dodgers had no comment on the story, adding that security for the stadium revealed Linares previously “unsuccessfully tried to get into the stadium.”
