11 Times Gina Rodriguez Was Incredibly Inspiring On Instagram
Let me be real here: I’ve drunk the Kool-Aid, and I am 100% obsessed with Gina Rodriguez. (Seriously, Gina, if you’re reading this, I’m positive we would be best friends. Just throwing that out into the universe!)
The “Jane the Virgin” star is not only an incredibly talented and hilarious actress, she’s also inspirational as hell. I’m talking Oprah-levels of inspirational.
In honor of my totally-normal-levels of love for her, here are 11 times Gina was inspirational on Instagram:
1. When she was all about that personal growth.
YAAAS girl, you grow.
2. When she went beyond her comfort zone and came out braver for having done so.
Can I channel some of that courage the next time my friends are like, “Let’s take a mirror pic,” and I’m like, “GOD HELP ME”?
3. The time she shared this inspiring story about finding her strength.
On her history with boxing and how it is a parallel to her acting career: "Taking photos boxing is not as easy as really boxing. My father was a referee for boxing, so I grew up boxing since I was three. I got the scars to prove it! Which I am not proud of because I do not have feminine hands. But strength – inner strength – the idea that you can protect yourself and never have to use it, the idea that it doesn’t matter what size I am, inside is sostrong. Mind over matter is so strong. It’s something you learn in the ring, you can’t give up. To me, it’s interesting, I feel like boxing is very much like acting, except you’re just fighting yourself. You’re not allowing yourself to be defeated, you’re getting up after you’ve been knocked down, and you have to believe that you can win. You have to believe you can win when you get in that ring or else you’re going to get your ass beat. In acting, it’s very similar. To me, it’s always been a nice parallel. I want to be a champ. And there are many champs, I just want to be one of them." Grab a copy for the full interview!
Refuse to be defeated!
4. Also, when she posted this other boxing picture with this other moving caption.
My dad and mom taught me to fight. Fight for my dreams, for my voice, for the voiceless, to fight for my soul and my character. They taught me to fight and should I fall, brush off my knees and go at it again. This photo was my dream of combining all the things I love and @womenshealthmag made it happen! #boxingChick #PunchLikeAGirl
*Signs up for boxing lessons.*
5. When she posted this pic with two badass women, and we were all, like, “SQUAD GOALS!”
Where do we sign up?
6. Every #MondayMotivation post she does.
#MovementMondays This is Morena Baccarin, she is a Brazilian actress. Born in Rio de Janeiro and later moved to New York City where she was raised. She is known for portraying Inara Serra in the series Firefly. Her most recent role Vanessa in the superhero comedy film Deadpool, and Jessica Brody in the Showtime series Homeland (for which she received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2013). You can catch her on television as the role of Dr. Leslie Thompkins in the Fox television series Gotham. She is an outstanding actress, not only in drama but killed it in comedy as Karen Walker in one of my favorite comedic films Spy. Morena, today I celebrate how fantastic your work has brought pride to women everywhere! Keep making us laugh and cry! #MovementMondays
Every Monday, Gina sheds light on actors and actresses in Hollywood who are people of color. How dope is that?! While Hollywood execs are busy whitewashing, Gina’s over here like, “HELLOOOOOOO.”
7. When she reminded us to live in the moment and enjoy every second.
Throwback to last years CW shoot with one of my favs @ninomunoz In the middle of the chaos of #JaneTheVirgin first season. With everything in a whirl and expectations high, it's nice to look back and say I soaked up every single minute of it. We don't know when a chapter will end, when our path may change so I say enjoy it now. Stay present. So on this throwback, ironic enough, I'm remembering to stay present, soak it all up and feel the gratitude of my blessings.
Gratitude can be a process.
8. When she was like, “STFU insecurity.”
That Friday beat down. Today I tore down an insecurity, I tore down that voice that wants to tear me down, I tore down every nasty thing anyone has said of me and I turned them into power. I am enough today. With fitness goals on the horizon, I choose to be good to my heart, my mind and my body. Today, Friday the 19th I am right where I need to be. #BeYou #YouIsEnough
Sorry, I’m allergic to something, definitely not crying. NOPE. NEVER. CRYING, ME, WHAT? For real though. Can we all just read this every time we feel shitty about ourselves? Ugh, chills forever. #YouIsEnough
9. When she reminded us to love the skin we’re in.
Another shot from inside my @cosmoforlatinas cover shoot. This one was difficult for me, as many women can understand because I am showing more skin then I am used to. As a woman with hashimotos, my struggle with health and weight and body acceptance in this industry has been a loving, painful, growing, exposing, vulnerable and incredible journey. And to come to a place where I love the skin I am in and it isn't defined by anyone's expectations or limitations is beyond freeing. I love this picture because I feel like young Gina finally made herself her own hero. #loveYourSkin #enoughToday #AllGrownUp
So often celebs act like they’re just always confident, but how refreshing is it to hear some honesty?!
10. When she calls her fans (us, me) “warriors,” and we all die.
Blessed to grace the cover of @cosmoforlatinas get a copy today, write me, comment, let's dialogue. These covers are super dope and really fun to do but unless it engages my warriors it's useless. I want to be involved with your life as much as you are with mine. Buying a copy of the magazine allows editors to see I am worthy of more, your commitment to supporting me directly helps my progress as an entertainer, from one cover to the next, from one TV show to a feature film. I don't do this alone. Yall know that right? You matter. You matter to me, to my dreams and to the art I want to participate in. Thank you for growing with me on this journey. ❤️
Girlfriend is so humble, she’s the mayor of Humbletown, Humbleville, USA.
11. When she was the queen of giving thanks.
UGH, GINA, HOW YOU SO PERFECT?
Seriously, I bow down to this queen because she is so badass and such an inspiration for Latinas everywhere. Never stop being you, girl.
