Selena Gomez Finally Let Us In On Everything She Was Silently Battling
Selena Gomez opened up and taught us it’s okay to be vulnerable. It’s okay to fall and pick yourself back up.
Yes, queen. YES.
Selena Gomez accepted her award with a message no one was expecting.

“I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside.”
She won the Favorite Female Artist â Pop/Rock award during last night’s American Music Awards, but her acceptance speech was less about the award and more about empowerment, love and self-care. Gomez touched on the public life that she has had to lead in the spotlight of being a celebrity saying, “I think it is safe to say that most of you know a lot about my life, whether I liked it or not.” She then talked about the importance that was placed on her keeping everything together for the fans.
“I had to stop because I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside,” Gomez said in her speech. “I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down.”
And people are giving Gomez’s acceptance speech a standing ovation.

She called on her fans to start showing the world love and strength, rather than just showing their “bodies on Instagram.”
Her emotional, and almost tearful, speech has moved people.

Gomez recently made headlines when she canceled her Revival tour because of symptoms related to her lupus disease.
Selenators are expressing their admiration and respect for the Texas-born pop star.
@AMAs @selenagomez Reasons why you are my biggest role model. I will forever look up to you. Congratsâ€

“I have to say thank you so much to my fans because you guys are so damn loyal and I don’t know what I did to deserve you,” Gomez said. “But, if you are broken, you don’t have to stay broken.”
Her message is even reaching people who are neither fans nor haters.
@AMAs I'm not a fan or a hater of @selenagomez but that was a very good speech. Well said. Very heartfelt. More than some said from a stage.

“And, if that’s anything whether you respect me or not, that’s one thing you should know about me,” Gomez said. “I care about people.”
Nicely done, Selena.
