Things That Matter

People Are Not Having It With Their Canceled MAC + Selena Orders

Emotions are running high over the #MACSelena server crashes…and it isn’t just with MAC. No store website has been able to keep up with the overwhelming demand for the MAC + Selena makeup line. Not only are servers crashing but whole orders are being canceled after they have been placed. It’s a wild time for Selena fans right now.

MAC + Selena went on sale this weekend and the release has been marred with canceled order after canceled order.

What she said!

There have been threats of iconic Selena proportions.

That is one person you do not want to have to handle.

You thought we were playing?

Here’s what the servers and stores looked like when they realized their mistake:

How can you not be ready for this kind of traffic? It is Selena!

It’s mind-blowing that these people can’t give you their money because you weren’t ready.

Now, it’s not like fans weren’t trying to get their hands on MAC + Selena.

Fans gave up their own sleep for these products.

And all they got was a canceled order email.

Some people even tried ordering the products at the 3 a.m. launch and were foiled in their sleep.

In. Their. SLEEP!

Latinos everywhere were skipping the free samples, which NEVER happens.

And if they weren’t lucky enough to have their orders canceled, stores were just plain sold out.

Literally breaking hearts all across America, atm.

Items were snatched from online shopping bags and carts at neckbreaking speeds.

What kind of world are we living in?!

So many Selena fans are feeling like this IRL.

Especially after learning that some people order the whole collection to sell on eBay.

Un-Accept-Able!

Some people were lucky enough to get La Reina’s makeup line.

Good. For. You. ?

And they are clearly…muy excited.

Meanwhile, the rest of us are left here waiting for more MAC + Selena to hit the online stores like:

If the Internet fails you again, MAC + Selena will be in stores on Oct. 6. Get that tent ready. It’ll be a long Oct. 5.

Families across the nation celebrated their 4th of July weekend watching “Hamilton.” The musical is one of the most celebrated musicals in recent history. Yet, some people have a problem with the musical and its debut on Disney+ has angered some Twitter users.

“Hamilton” is currently streaming on Disney+ and fans are so excited.

The very popular musical is a Broadway sensation. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s play is one of the most celebrated shows in recent history with sold-out shows across the country. The play tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States.

The play has been celebrated because the actors cast in the production are all actors of color. It took a white story and was filled with people of color showing a side of Hamilton people don’t often address. Miranda admitted that he didn’t know much about Hamilton until reading a biography about the man while on vacation. He felt the story of Hamilton is inherently an immigrant story and deserved to be told with a twist.

#CancelHamilton started trending over the weekend and a quick search shows that most of the tweets are from conservatives.

There is a movement happening right now in the U.S. with people tearing down statues honoring Confederate soldiers and leaders. The Confederacy is the side of the Civil War fighting to preserve slavery and lost the war. The hashtag is filled with people complaining that other Confederate monuments are being torn down, so why not cancel “Hamilton.”

One argument being made against canceling “Hamilton” is that it is fiction. Those for the cancellation of “Hamilton” claim that is should be torn down like Confederate statues. Yet, those against the cancellation claim that the show is a fictitious account and not the same as monuments and statues built to celebrate a legacy steeped in slave ownership.

Some of the people defending the show are pointing to the cast of filled with people of color.

The show made history with its diverse cast offering a glimpse into history through the voices of people of color. This kind of representation gave young people of color a chance to see themselves represented in history. It might only be a play but it is a play that has captivated an audience of Black and brown people who can see people who look like them representing U.S. history.

It has reignited the debate about cancel culture being weaponized and weakened by bad actors.

The cancel culture has come after several celebrities and businesses calling out bad practices. It seems though that every week there is a new attempt to cancel someone or something. Cancel culture has come under fire for cutting people before giving them a chance to learn from their mistakes.

Some people want to cancel cancel culture instead of “Hamilton” and that thought is spreading.

Cancel culture has claimed a lot of people. It started to grow in prominence as social media became more and more popular and far-reaching. What do you think about Cancel Culture?

When it comes to buying products we all have a responsibility to know where our dollars go.

And while in the world of beauty it might seem a bit tricky to be conscientious of animal rights and our planet… it’s so essential. Fortunately, Sephora agrees and their latest announcement confirms it!

Recently, Sephora announced that it would no longer sell mink-based lashes online or in-store in an effort to combat animal cruelty.

Speaking to Allure this week, the big-box beauty store announced that they had started 2020 with efforts to phase mink lashes out of its stock. This week, after animal rights activist organization PETA launched a campaign demanding that the brand do so, the retailer confirmed that when it comes to false eyelashes they are going completely mink-free.

“Following a PETA campaign and emails from more than 280,000 concerned shoppers, Sephora has confirmed that it has banned mink-fur eyelashes and will purchase only synthetic or faux-fur lashes going forward,” PETA shared in a statement about the decision.

In a graphic video about the trading and selling of mink fur which is often used for coats and fake eyelashes, the organization urged Sephora to stop selling the beauty product.

The organization lambasted fur farms in its statement saying “As PETA pointed out in its letters to Sephora, mink fur typically comes from fur farms, where stressed minks frantically pace and circle endlessly inside cramped wire cages and many languish from infections or broken or malformed limbs. Some minks even self-mutilate as a result of the intensive confinement, chewing into their own limbs or tails. At the end of their miserable lives, they’re gassed or electrocuted or their necks are broken.”

Confirming their decision to take mink off of its shelves, Sephora wrote in a statement that they “have always been committed to upholding the highest standards of beauty, and we take our responsibility to communicate transparently and honestly with our clients about the products we carry seriously.”

The brand went on to say that they shared with PETA “earlier this year we had already decided to begin phasing mink products out of our assortment in 2020. We have only ever offered products our clients can trust and we stand by the people and partners who have made the Sephora experience what it is today.”
