Nicole Richie’s Style Evolution Will Leave You With A Serious Case Of Whiplash

Nicole Richie, who is of English, Mexican and Creole African-American ancestry, has had quite the style evolution. This party-girl turned entrepreneur has cycled through trends in a way that would make the average person’s head spin. Richie entered the spotlight around 2004 when she burst onto the scene in the trailblazing reality show “The Simple Life”. After the public recognized how cute, witty, and downright watchable this girl was, she pretty much has never left our screens since.

Throughout Richie’s tenure in the public eye, she’s always brought her own personality to everything she does. Back in her reality days, it was her biting, deadpan humor. Now that she’s older, her personality is reflected not only in her personal style (which is always on point), but her fashion projects as well (she’s the founder and creative director of the House of Harlow 1960 fashion line). Here at FIERCE by mitu, we’ve compiled a list of classic Nicole Richie trends that will make you realize why this Latina entrepreneur is such a force in front of and behind the camera. Take a look below!

1. Two-Toned Hair

@PetiteAnge_/Twitter

When the hit reality-show “The Simple Life” aired in 2003, Nicole Richie was rocking a really on-trend hairstyle at the time: two-toned hair where the “low lights” were much darker than the rest of the hair. We can’t say this is our favorite look of hers.

2. Tube Dresses

In the early aughts, Richie also gravitated towards monochrome tube dresses that looked just as at-home on the red carpet as they did in the club circuit.

3. Bright Orange Faux Tans

@missemilyjayx/Twitter

Even the naturally darker-complexioned Miss Richie wasn’t immune to the early-2000s allure of a spray tan back in the day. As you can see from the above picture, she may have gone a bit over-board with the trend (we’ve all been there).

4. Blunt Bangs

@Kamaria24k/Twitter

Richie has never been one to shy away from bold hair experimentation (see her Met Gala look from 2017). We love how she always changed up her tresses, like when switched her usual hair-do to some chic blunt bangs. She really can’t go wrong.

5. Smudged Eyeliner

@ITSPARISBXTCH/Twitter

When Richie first hit the scene in 2004, she had a signature makeup look that always turned heads. She rocked a “grunge-chic” look that included tousled, bedhead hair and a smudged smokey eye that looked like she had been up all night partying.

6. Super-Sized Sunglasses

@ccyeez/Twitter

Once Richie started to transition out of her reality TV days, she really began to come into her own, style-wise. We have a feeling that Richie began donning mega-glasses because it successfully shielded her from the paparazzi, but it also cemented her as a style icon. One could argue that it was Richie who put the over-sized sunglasses on the map for good.

7. Over-Sized Clothing

Not only did Richie develop a penchant for over-sized sunglasses, she also started to gravitate towards baggy clothing around the same time as well. This was a massive change from her previous style which consisted of mini-dresses and skin-tight polyester.

8. Side Bangs

@wmag/Twitter

If you look through a catalogue of Richie’s past fashion experiments, a common thread will weave through all of it: bangs. Richie has always been a big proponent of a fringe, whether it’s an aforementione blunt cut or her signature side-swept style that she usually opts for. In fact, it’s hard to think of a look as classically Nicole unless the bangs are both prominent and sideswept.

9. Boho-Chic

@TangerOutlets/Twitter

There may not be a celebrity in all of Hollywood that does Bohemian as well as Nicole Richie does. Not only is she tasteful and fashionable with her choices, but she’s also adventurous and playful. Richie’s bohemian phase was the look that launched a thousand copy-cats–celeb or otherwise.

10. Scarf Headbands

@ccyeez/Twitter

Richie has been a fan of the scarf-as-a-headband since her “Simple Life” days, and her affinity for the accessory doesn’t seem to be dying down anytime soon. These days, however, she sticks to smaller, top-knotted headbands as is evidenced by her most recent Instagram posts.

11. Curly & Natural

@MJHIStorySource/Twitter

Although Richie has opted to straighten her hair since her early days in the spotlight (no judgement from our side), she’s recently gone the au naturel route, leaving her mane to reveal its curly glory. We love how Richie is never afraid to experiment in any aspect of her look

12. Sleek and Simple

@nicolerichie/Instagram

Lately, Nicole Richie has been all about simplicity when it comes to her personal style–especially when it comes to her hair. This is a big departure from her bygone days when her mantra seemed to be “the more the merrier” when it came to hair and makeup.

Okay announced that their new line is part of their new “Rosa Cinematic Universe (RCU)” which looks to be aiming to sell a full set of merch. What’s more, for every item sold a percentage of the proceeds will go to those currently being affected by COVID-19.

As of now, it looks like the site that will sell Okay’s items is not quite yet up and running.

The site Adamrayokay.co currently says that the site is “opening soon” but you CAN sign up with your email to find out when it will launch. The Instagram and TikTok user AdamRayOkay shot to fame late last year when the character they created named “Rosa” captivated viewers with her playful laugh and chismosa ways.

So far, Okay (as Rosa) has wrangled about 1.6 million followers on Instagram and nailed some amazing publicity.

“I’m just trying to stay positive [and] I want to make other people feel positive,” 20-year-old Adam Ray Okay told Paper. “So I’m just trying to put as much content on there as possible, on the internet. Just because right now both the internet and the actual real world are in a really dark place. So yeah, I’m just trying to stay positive.

On what inspired them to create Rosa, Okay explained she was easy to come up with because everyone can relate to her.

Paper Magazine / Instagram

In late March, Okay was featured in a magazine spread published by Paper Magazine. Just weeks before, Okay made her debut on Fenty Beauty.

“I had downloaded the TikTok app and I was just scrolling, doing my thing. I wasn’t really thinking of making my own content. And then I just got inspired by myself, my childhood growing up and, like you said, everybody knows this Rosa character and I felt that she had been forgotten about… So once I brought her back, everybody was just so familiar with her and that’s why I felt she did really well,” Okay told Paper in the interview with Paper magazine. “She’s everywhere. So, even if you didn’t grow up with somebody like her, you know how she is. She’s predictable in an unpredictable way. She’s just so familiar… she is part of everybody.”

It’s tough times everywhere. And by everywhere I mean everywhere.

On top of everything, the current pandemic has kept so many of us away from our regular beauty treatments which has meant that for months so many of us have had to do without the very personal waxes and hair removal prosses that we all invest in so religiously. Cardi B knows this truth and opted to embark into the world of DIY hair removal. And fortunately for us, she documented the whole process.

Recently the rapper shared a clip of herself doing a WFH AKA a wax from home and things got wild.

“Guys, wish me fuckin’ luck,” Cardi asked users in the post as she showed off a bottle of Veet 3 in 1 Gel Cream. “I hope I don’t burn my pussy off.”

Anyone whose done a wax from home knows that the experience is never very pretty and for Cardi, it wasn’t much different. The rapper documented the process for her Instagram stories and revealed that she didn’t get very far in the process.

To follow up, she tried Veet, a hair removal cream that is supposed to painlessly dissolve the hair shaft, as opposed to yanking it out.

And it looks like things got along pretty smoothly. Cardi B called the experience “a positive thing” that she discovered thanks to quarantine. In fact, she went as far as to describe the process as “a positive thing” she discovered in quarantine.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with growing out your hair and letting it be free, no matter where your sprouts are located. BUT if you’re like me, you might not feel quite so comfortable and are likely desperately wishing you hadn’t taken your easy access to wax salons for granted. So, how to deal?

We scoured Instagram and Youtube for the best at-home wax kits and tips for Brazilians. Check them out below!

Get a good exfoliator.

GLOSSIER.COM

According to P&G’s site Reward me, exfoliating helps soften body hair and opens up hair follicles. Doing this before a wax will make the process easier and less painful.

Plan for the pain.

People don’t cringe at the sight of Steve Carrel getting a wax in “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” for nothing. Waxing HURTS. But the process can be made a bit more pleasant if you take a painkiller like Alieve half an hour before waxing and if you apply a numbing cream to the area you want to wax. And don’t be silly by trying to wax during or a few days before your period!

Don’t let yourself sweat.

TWITTER.COM

Make sure you keep the area dry and clean during removal. Do so by avoiding creams and moisturizers and instead apply baby powder. The powder will make the removal process all the easier once your done and have strings of wax left over.

Sweetly Bare Sugaring Hair Removal Kit

ETSY.COM

One of the top reviewed sugaring kits on Etsy.

“At home sugaring success! I would have never done this at home if it wasn’t for COVID. Now, I don’t think I’ll ever need to pay a salon again! This is a quality product!” – Etsy review.

BrownSugarShop Body Sugaring Paste

This news my first time sugaring ever (I’ve brevet waxes either) all things considered I think it went well. I definitely think next time I’m going to leave the sugar I’m not using in the fridge to help it stay stiffer longer when I use a new piece.” – Etsy reviewer.

And there you have it. Now, let’s not fool ourselves, waxing on your own will likely be way less pleasant and much more difficult than it is at a salon, but it is possible! Hang in there, Sis.
