2019 But Make It Fashion! Here Are The Most Aesthetically Pleasing Moments of the Year

As we on the Internet like to phrase it, 2019 was a hot mess. All the drama of the last year made us even more aware than ever that the world can be a very scary place. Still, there’s beauty to be found in the every day. We should always work towards that if we want to address the uncertainties of society head on. No industry does this better than the world of fashion. 2019 was an especially good year for artists, designers and celebrities to create stunning works of wearable art and they were so good that we had no choice but to stan the fashion-forward stars responsible for them. Check out the best fashion moments of this past year.

1. Zendaya in Vera Wang at the Emmy’s.

Whether she’ll always be your “Rocky Blue” or you just discovered her as “Rue Bennett” on “Euphoria,” there’s no disputing that Zendaya has had the makings of a fashion icon ever since she stepped onto the scene. 2019 saw one of the young starlet’s greatest fashion moments yet when she walked the red carpet at the Emmy Awards. In a look that would have “Poison Ivy” green with envy, Zendaya rocked a half-sheer, half-satin Vera Wang gown for the Hollywood event. She completed the look with a silky red hairdo that would totally help her land that role as the Gotham City Siren.

2. Billy Porter in a custom look for the MET Gala.

Honest question: are any other men besides Billy Porter actually trying when it comes to avent garde fashion? There’s only so many times we can see the same black tuxedo suit before we die of boredom. Luckily, we have Porter out here stepping up his game. The actor never misses an opportunity to serve and he gave us several choice fashion moments in 2019 alone. His most memorable one was his look for the MET Gala where he was literally carried in on a litter lifted by 6 shirtless men. Dressed as a sun god, he wore a bejeweled catsuit, a 24 karat gold headpiece and a prosthetic that gave him a 10-foot wing span. The ensemble was an original creation by innovative fashion duo, The Blonds.

3. Gemma Chan in Valentino for The Oscars.

“Crazy Rich Asians” star Gemma Chan looked glamorous and perfectly feminine as she floated down the 2019 Academy Awards Red Carpet. The Pink Parachute Valentino dress was the perfect show stopper because of its size and beauty but it also attracted attention for another reason: the gown had pockets! Any lady can tell you how big a deal this is since women’s clothing is notoriously sans pockets. To add another bonus, while on the red carpet, Chan reached into one of those pockets and pulled out a giant chocolate chip cookie. Sounds like a Queen to us.

4. Gwendoline Christie in an Iris van Herpen couture gown.

The last season of “Game of Thrones” might have been a little disappointing but at least we have this fashion moment to make up for it. Gwendoline Christie was one of the actors acknowledged for the talent she brought to her character, “Brienne of Tarth.” It seems Christie might bring greatness to every thing she takes on because this Iris van Herpen couture gown she wore to the premiere of the final season on “GOT” become the very flames of the series’ famous dragons. Surrounded by these imitation flames, Christie looked positively enchanting and much more satisfying to watch than the last few episodes of the HBO series.

5. Selma Blair in Ralph & Russo Couture.

Often mobility devices aren’t seen in much Hollywood and certainly not on the red carpet so when Selma Blair appeared with her cane following the announcement of her multiple sclerosis diagnosis, it was a huge deal. Appearing at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in a gauzy multi-colored couture dress, the disabled actress sported a custom monogram cane that contains a pink diamond! This simple act of vulnerability through fashion opened up the door to much needed conversations about accessibility, representation and disability.

6. Maluma in Moschino by Jeremy Scott.

He might not be Billy Porter-level fashionable, but at least we Maluma fans know that we can always count on him to impress. At this year’s MET Gala, the Colombian singer showed up in a shiny patterned suit, complete with creme colored cummerbund and matching tie. It was completely perfect considering the “CAMP Fashion” theme of 2019’s gala and was way more impressive than the hundreds of plain black suits other guys were sporting. Fashion is all about taking risks and all of these risks made 2019 much more worth while.

Sistahs!! ColourPop x Hocus Pocus Is Coming Just In Time for Halloween And I Suggest We Form A Calming Circle

Sistahs!! ColourPop x Hocus Pocus Is Coming Just In Time for Halloween And I Suggest We Form A Calming Circle

If you were around in the immediate years following the 1993 release of the Halloween classic Hocus Pocus you know how much power the movie has. The Disney film starring Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker gave just about every child watching thrills and chills and followed a trio of evil and hilarious witches who are accidentally raised from the dead by a teenage virgin on the night of Halloween.

Over the years Hocus Pocus has proven to be more than just a movie obsession but also a lifestyle. After all, what is Halloween if you haven’t binged the movie more than once during the month of October?

ColourPop knows the story and that’s likely why they’ve come up with a Hocus Pocus makeup collection that will haunt your dreams until you get your hands on it.

Get ready for some tricks for your at-home Halloween treats this year because ColourPop x Hocus Pocus is almost officially here.

The brand’s latest Halloween collection is inspired by the classic 1993 movie and launches at 10 AM PST on September 30. The limited-edition collection line is made up of false lashes, and an eyeshadow palette with 15 bronze hues. It also comes outfitted with a glitter creme gel eyeliner!

What’s more, the makeup kit comes complete with eyecatching packaging that serves as a shoutout to the three Sanderson sisters and the beloved noble black cat called Thackery Binx.

Perhaps the best part of it all is that the make-up kit includes products with names that heavily reference the best lines in the movie including “Amok! Amok! Amok” and “Gather Round Sisters.”

The new line also includes very Sanderson Sister-chic shades of red lipstick.

The best part? The collection is pretty dang cute AND affordable.

The palette retails at $22, the lipsticks go for $16 each, and at $130, the entire bundle is quite a steal!

Sure, you might be stuck at home this Halloween but there’s no doubt this new collection will enchant the little children in your lives and make you the ball of your COVID-friendly Halloween bash!

Yalitza Aparicio Stars In Dior’s Women-Centric Film Series

Yalitza Aparicio Stars In Dior’s Women-Centric Film Series

In the two years that have passed since her debut as an actress in the 2018 Academy Award-winning film Roma, Yaltiza Aparicio has established herself as a Hollywood “get.” The Indigenous actress has appeared countless times on the cover of magazines, ones like Vogue México and Vanity Fair, and has been featured in ad campaigns for designers like Rodarte. So it’s no surprise that she has now been tapped to be part of Dior’s new campaign “Dior Stands with Women.”

As part of an effort to celebrate women across the film, beauty, and health industries Dior has launched its “Dior Stands with Women” campaign.

On Monday, the fashion brand announced it had launched a series of short films honoring women and their contributions to the industries and communities which they occupy. The campaign features actresses like Yaltiza Aparicio, model Paloma Elsesser, dancer Leyna Bloom, Cara Delevingne, Charlize Theron, Parris Goebel, and others.

In a statement about the campaign, Dior announced their intent in a post on Instagram. “Inspired by the exceptional women who have marked its history, Christian Dior Parfums unveils a series of short filmed portraits that give a chance to speak to extraordinary women,” it reads.

Speaking in the portrait series, Aparicio explains “For me, being a woman means being strong, always holding your head up because they tell you what they say, you must be sure of what you are capable of,” she went onto say that as “as an ambassador for UNESCO, my role is to represent indigenous communities with dignity. Give them a voice and visibility, which is something that we have lacked for a long time… Women have fought for many years for gender equality. It is not about being superior to men, it is about having the same opportunities, that in your work they give you a fair salary and not simply because you are a woman they pay you less or that they consider that you have fewer capacities simply because you are a woman.”

Speaking about their journeys, actresses Cara Delevinge and Charlize Theron touched on being unapologetic and part of male-dominated industries.
