Not Everyone Knows That Jennifer Lopez’s Famous Green Versace Grammy Dress Actually Launched Google Images

In Summer 2019 the Council of Fashion Designers of America will acknowledge what her fans have always known: that Jennifer Lopez is a fashion icon. On April 16th, the CFDA announced that Lopez will be the 2019 recipient of their Fashion Icon Award. Considered the “Oscar’s of Fashion,” the award has been bestowed on impecable dressers such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga. However, this is the first time she or any a Latina will be honored by the council as an Icon.

Ever since the world received their first glimpse of JLo, her genuine talent and impressive personal style have won her fame and fans. Whether she’s wearing couture or a tracksuit, Lopez has the confidence and personal style to own any look. We can’t wait to see what outfit she will rock at the CFDA Awards on June 3rd but — considering what we’ve already seen — we know it will be iconic.

Here are some of JLo’s most en vogue looks that prove she’s an undisputed fashion icon.

1. The most fly of the Fly Girls.

Tumblr / @bibberly

The first time the world got a real look from Lopez, she was showing off her moves with other dancers on “In Living Color.” Not only did the comedy show hype us to her dance moves, but it also introduced her cool-girl style. In addition to being one of the few people who actually looked good in the early 90s, Lopez was a fan of crop tops from way back when. Some things just never go out of style.

2. ¡Viva Selena!

Livingly.com

For her part as the Tejano queen, Lopez borrowed some staple styles from another Latina fashion icon. When the public first saw JLo as Selena, there was an honest shock at how right she looked in the singer’s classic outfits. Selena’s purple jumpsuit, bustier, and even her casual styles were amazing on her. We should have known then to expect great things from the starlet — both in her career and in her future looks.

3. Glitz and glamour at the Oscar’s.

WMagazine.com

Lopez’s performance in “Selena” earned her critical acclaim and a nomination for a Golden Globe. Later that same year, she turned heads at the 69th annual Academy awards. Wearing a lacy light purple Badgely Mischka gown, JLo shined like the star she was quickly becoming.

4. The era of bikini tops and joggers.

OKMagazine.com

On May 11, 1999, Lopez released her first music video for “If You Had My Love.” Besides bringing us a video with a unique voyeuristic look at cyberspace at the dawn of the new millennium, it also offered several hip looks. While all outfits in this video are still pretty stylish, this bikini top, jogger, and body jewelry outfit is quintessential JLo.

5. Jenny from the Block.

FashionIsMyObsession.com

What’s needed for a good JLo music video? A romantic Male lead, amazing choreography and several fierce costume changes. That’s why “Jenny From The Block” is a great video and a fashion icon moment. It’s hard to choose just one chic fashion choice but Lopez made those Manolo boots famous so this look has to wins.

6. The dress that launched Google Images.

EntertainmentWeekly.com

After the public saw Lopez in that legendary green Versace dress at the 2000 Grammy’s, they couldn’t get enough. In fact, searches for JLo in that dress was the most popular search query Google ever saw. Due to this, the young company decided to flesh out an image driven search platform — aka Google Images. Considering this dress launched a tool most people use every day, we think it’s safe to say that Lopez is a fashion icon.

7. Everyone wanted this look back in day.

People

Sometimes when we look back at clothing from decades past, we’re completely baffled by what we see. Other times, those outfits are worn by JLo and we realize we’d still like to cop this look. The early 2000’s saw velour track suits become popular and Lopez’s “I’m Real” video did a lot to spark that trend.

8. The Bennifer phase had its share of looks.

Hello Magazine

Fun fact: it’s thanks to the union of JLo and former fiance Ben Affleck that we have fun celeb couple names. Since Bennifer split, both have moved on to bigger careers and more compatible loves. JLo was going through a glam phase during their relationship and she made some really great fashion choices — including the gown she wore to the “Gigli” premiere. The movie ended as poorly as the relationship but at least we have this great dress to remember both by.

9. A little black dress that’s anything but basic.

Glamour.com

In 2013, the Grammy’s enforced a new dress code collectively written by all the abuelas of the world. The new code banned thongs, any necklines cut too low and all hems cut too high. Pretty controversial for the often risky reward show. Leave it to JLo to stay within the rules while still maintaining making it sexy.

10. Giving the Sun reasons to be jealous.

Pinterest

Besides looking great on the red carpet, in music videos and in everyday life, JLo also brings her amazing style to editorials. In this 2013 “Harper’s Bazaar” feature, the star combined tall gladiator sandals, a canary yellow mini dress and soft, sunkissed waves. The styling is relatively simple but the impact very memorable.

11. A look that combines fashion and art.

WalesOnline.co.uk

Some times we see clothing that reminds us that fashion is as much art as anything found in a museum. JLo wore such a dress for the 2017 Billboard Latin Music Awards. Designed by Welsh designer Julien MacDonald, the shimmering black gown has intricate cutouts to make use of negative space. It makes for a show-stopping look that’s meant to walk the runway or red carpet.

12. Even her stage looks are flawless.

Instagram / @jlo

Lopez gives nothing less than visual perfection with her regular wardrobe but she brings it to a whole new level with her stage looks. Her 2018 VMA performance for MTV’s Video Vanguard is a great example of this. The golden bodysuit, sparkly thigh highs and sheer flowing cape make her look like a high fashion superhero.

13. Styled head to toe.

Instagram / @jlo

Sure, she’s an entrepreneur, movie star, award winning performer and fashionista but JLo hasn’t forgotten where she came from. Here dancer origins have brought her back to TV as a judge on NBC’s “World of Dance.” To celebrate season 2 of the dance competition, Lopez shared a series of pics featuring this ruffled blouse, golden harem pants and one of the most intricate braided updo you’ll ever see.

14. JLo’s style for “InStyle.”

Instagram / @jlo

Casual and colorful, Lopez blessed us with this ensemble in a December 2018 spread in “InStyle.” The tunic dress is Valentino Haute Couture as are the gorgeous emerald suede boots. Topped off with Chopard Haute earrings, this is an effortlessly hip outfit.

15. Green dress 2.0.

Instagram / @jlo

That “InStyle” spread gave us so much JLo fashion goodness that we’re still obsessing over it. One such bold look is the sparkly Valentino Haute Couture cape she wore with nothing else on. The star looks great in anything and we’re more than a little jelly. Still, we’re okay with it if it means we get to see great editorial styles like this.

16. As pink as she pleases.

Instagram / @jlo

Looking like she just stepped out of a telenovela, JLo shared this fine feathered frock on social media. The cut is modest but she still looks incredibly feminine and romantic in this soft pink color. The glitzy addition of those blinged-out earrings are just icing on the cake.

17. #GymGoals

Pinterest

This might seem like a weird flex, but this seemingly low-glamore ensemble is one of our favorites on this list. Who else do you know that looks this high fashion in a track suit? Nobody, that’s who. Her addition of shiny stilettos and oversized gold hoops has us really vibing with this complete picture.

18. This dress is a religious experience.

Glamour.com

The MET Gala is all about pageantry and our favorite looks are always the ones that dress for that year’s theme. Lopez did great service to 2018’s theme of “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” with her ornate Balmain gown. What’s even better is that the hand embellished piece was later auctioned off to benefit HIV research. We love a good cause as much as we love this dress.

19. Cute and sexy all in one.

SugarPop.com

As an international star, JLo does her fair share of jet-setting. One such trip to the United Arab Emirates saw Lopez and fiance Alex Rodriguez stepping out to elite nightclub Base. There, the star rocked this adorable and flirty Balmain minidress. The combination of soft ruffles and peek-a-boo cutouts make for a style that is both sweet and sexy.

20. Simply jaw dropping.

Elle.com

If you ever doubt Lopez’s fashion sense, take a look at this awe-inspiring dress. Worn to the “Vanity Fair” Oscar after-party, this Tom Ford mosaic dress illuminated with hues of pink, purple, blue and silver. This gown photographed beautifully and was the absolute perfect choice for a master poser like JLo. The girl really knows her angles.

Kat Von D Just Announced That She’s Totally Cut Ties With Her Makeup Line Effective Immediately

katvond / Instagram

Kat Von D has become a titan in the beauty industry due to her eponymous makeup line’s ultra long-wear highly pigmented products that also happen to be vegan and cruelty free.

And although fans have long looked to the Queen of Ink because of her unconventional aesthetic and beauty expertise, the Von D recently announced she has decided to permanently step back from her successful business to focus on other projects as well as her new family.

This past year has been one of great change for me. As many of you know, I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy, launched my vegan shoe line, and am now busy prepping to release my long awaited album in the Spring, followed by an international tour! As much as I wish I could balance all of this, on top of continuing my makeup line, it has become clear to me that I just can’t do everything at the maximum capacity. It's hard to admit this, since I’ve always said “You can do everything and anything.” But I don’t think admitting one's limits is a bad thing. With that said, I’ve decided to sell my shares of the brand, turning it over to Kendo, my partners for the past 11 years. This was not an easy decision, but after careful consideration, I decided I wanted the makeup line to continue to thrive and grow, and I believe Kendo is primed to do just that. The transition for you, my loyal customers, will be seamless. In order to avoid any confusion with such a big change, Kat Von D Beauty will take a moment to rebrand itself, so you will start noticing the change from KatVonD Beauty to KvD Vegan Beauty. I'd like to thank my beloved fans+followers who supported my vision to create a brand that stood for compassion, true artistry, and challenged modern ideals of beauty — most of which I never could relate to. I was able to create a makeup line that made outsiders like me feel like we have a place in this “beauty” world, and gave myself and others the tools to express ourselves in our own unique way, whether it was embraced by the majority or not. And I just couldn’t have done any of this without you! Lastly, thank you for understanding+respecting my choice, as it was a difficult one to make, but one I am proud of regardless, and am confident that the team will continue the KvD legacy! Here’s to many, many more years of KvD Vegan Beauty!

On Thursday via Instagram, Kat Von D announced the unexpected news that she was selling her shares in Kat Von D Beauty in order to focus on other projects.

@thekatvonD/Instagram

In the lengthy statement, Von D explained that 2019 had been a year of “great change” due to the birth of her baby boy as well as her expansion into music. She went on to explain that, while she tried to balance all of her projects to the best of her ability, she wasn’t able to fully contribute to each of her projects at “maximum capacity.” Therefore, she would be officially stepping down from Kat Von D Beauty.

“I’ve decided to sell my shares of the brand, turning it over to Kendo, my partners for the past 11 years,” she said. “This was not an easy decision, but after careful consideration, I decided I wanted the makeup line to continue to thrive and grow, and I believe Kendo is primed to do just that.”

Von D went on to reveal that the beauty line would be re-branded as KvD Vegan Beauty in order to “avoid any confusion” for the brand’s customers.

@kvdveganbeauty/Instagram

Although the Sephora-based Kat Von D Beauty came out of the gate strong–even being named Sephora’s fastest-growing brand in 2018–the brand subsequently suffered from a highly-publicized dip in sales after Von D herself was embroiled in multiple controversies. Among the controversies was Von D declaring that she would not be vaccinating her child. Additionally, Von D had long been plagued by accusations of antisemitism throughout her career.

The line will in all likelihood be in good hands with the LVMH beauty incubator Kendo, which also produces other popular brands like Fenty Beauty and Marc Jacobs. The former Kat Von D Beauty website has already been updated with the name change along with a statement from the CEO of Kendo. “I want to thank Kat for helping to change the beauty industry with us,” the statement reads. “We are fully positioned to continue the brand’s growth and development in both product and marketing…The same KENDO team that made history with KVD Vegan Beauty is ready to do it again.”

Since its inception, Von D has been extremely hands-on with her makeup line, involved in every aspect of the business from product inception to packaging.

@thekatvonD/Instagram

“I name every shade, design every piece of packaging, help choose the colors and textures, the finishes and formulations,” she told HELLO! magazine in 2016. “There isn’t a font used on my packaging – I personally design and draw every letter on it. I even curate the content for our Instagram. I poured myself 100 per cent into this and I know that my customers appreciate that.”

And the tattoo artist and television personality obviously hit a chord with customers who felt connected to her through her products. In addition, Kat Von D’s products were truly high-quality at an affordable price-point. You could say that Von D was a trailblazer in the media personality-turned-businesswoman model that so many celebrities have since tried to replicate.

As for fans of Kat Von D, they took the news with a mixture of admiration, disappointment, and acceptance.

Kat Von D has such a devoted fan base that many of them would follow her to the ends of the earth.

This person expressed undying devotion to Von D, no matter what she decides to do next:

Some Kat Von D supporters are ride-or-die.

This person thanked Kat for all she’s done for the beauty community.

Part of Kat Von D’s appeal is that she’s always marched to the beat of her own drum. For her, makeup was a means of artistic expression, not a means of blending in with everyone else.

This person shared a touching story about how Von D’s past generosity changed her life.

This kind of personal touch is hard to replicate once a brand becomes super corporate.

This person was 100% supportive of Von D’s decision to step back.

It’s especially hard to juggle so many products as a new mom.

This person was just excited to hear Kat’s new album.

Not many people go from being a makeup mogul to being a rock-star. Talk about a pivot.

The Super Bowl Just Hit The Latina Trifecta Thanks To This Big Announcement

ddlovato / Instagram, jlo /Instagram , shakira/ Instagram

Looks like the Super Bowl is officially going to be fire. Late last year it was announced that , Jennifer Lopez and Shakira would headline the halftime show. News of their duo performance sparked both delight and, in light of the NFL’s anti-Black Lives Matter stance, some controversy. Still, whether you love it or hate, the show will go on and Demi Lovato is now taking part.

On Thursday the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer announced that she will be performing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl LIV in Miami.

In a post to her Instagram account, the singer shared an official photo and a caption that read, “Singing the National Anthem at #SBLIV See you in Miami @NFL.”

The announcement is proof that Latinas and Demi in particular are setting 2020 on fire.

After all, Lovato’s announcement comes just two days after she announced that she had accepted an invite to performat the 2020 Grammy Awards at the end of this month. The news sparked excitement amongst Lovato’s fans particularly because the singer hasn’t performed live since 2018 when she was hospitalized for a drug overdose.

This year, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will also headline the halftime show.

Super Bowl LIV will be played on February 2. Fox will televise the game starting at 6:30 p.m. with kickoff shortly thereafter.

We don’t know who will face off in the 54th Super Bowl but we know who will be serving up delicious cuisine at Hard Rock Stadium the day of the big game and the big performance — a dominicana chef.

Chef Dayanny de la Cruz the Centerplate Executive Chef of the Hard Rock Stadium will be feeding guests with delicious sazón on Super Bowl Sunday.

The woman responsible for coordinating the food experience for Super Bowl LIV is Dayanny de la Cruz. The mom of three is the executive chef of the Hard Rock Stadium. FIERCE recently spoke to Chef Dayanny about her beginnings, her connections with the world of food, breaking through the glass ceiling and what it’s like to design a menu that matches JLo and Shakira’s superstardom.

Chef Dayanny was born and raised in the Dominican Republic and grew up in a home where everything happened around the kitchen table. It was the kind of childhood where her mother always insisted she eat before she play and she was able to run outside and pick ripe mangoes straight from surrounding trees. Chef Dayanny credits this early association with fresh foods and the warmth of a lively kitchen with her decision to enter the culinary world.

She first went to school to get a degree in hospitality management from Universidad Central del Este in the Dominican Republic. It was here that she decided to move to the United States with her parents and pursue a career in culinary arts. After getting her degree in Grand Rapids, MI, the newbie chef accepted her first position in a kosher kitchen at the DoubleTree Hotel in Chicago — an experience that she says was one of the most difficult and rewarding of her career.

It was during this time in Chicago that Chef Dayanny was exposed to the world of sports luxury entertainment. She quickly started building her resume with some of the most elite sports events in the US, such as the US open in New York, the Kentucky Derby and the NBA All-Stars. Chef Dayanny explained to FIERCE, the experience was a different challenge than what she was used to, but she was drawn to that difficult task.

Her experience eventually led her to Miami and the Hard Rock Stadium.

As the executive chef, this means she would be in charge of the kitchen staff for each of these locations. Chef Dayanny also oversees the menus for each concession, kitchen and restaurant at the stadium, and ensures the quality of the food leaving the kitchen. Currently, the stadium has 7 kitchens, 167 suits, 7 all-inclusive clubs and 25 concession stands.

Among those responsibilities is a self-imposed rule that Chef Dayanny expects of her kitchens: to keep them extremely diverse. Listing Central America, South America, Africa and other countries as some of the sources of inspiration for the cuisine she serves, the chef explained to FIERCE that she not only includes her own Dominican flavors into her kitchens but she encourages the native flavors of her kitchen staff to be utilized as well.

The road leading up to her high-profile career hasn’t been easy. Unfortunately, Chef Dayanna also experienced something many women — Latinas especially — experience coming up in her career.

Like in many industries, the culinary world is still very much a boys’ club. As such, women are given an especially difficult time when they enter the industry to gain experience. Sometimes the interactions are so traumatizing that women leave their industry completely to avoid facing more injustices.

Chef Dayanny confirmed that as a Latina she bumped into the infamous glass ceiling several times before climbing up the ladder. However, it wasn’t her own struggle she was concerned about, but the struggle of the next generation of women. Acknowledging that we still have a ways to go in making strides in equality, Chef Dayanny explained, “If we are standing still, not moving forward, we aren’t clearing the way for the next generation.”

As thrilled as she is about the upcoming Super Bowl, when asked how she feels knowing that she is somewhat responsible for feeding JLo and Shakira, Chef Dayanny left us with a reminder of what’s most important.

Anyone who talks to Chef Dayanny can hear how much she loves to cook and how she adores food in general. So, to reach this point in her career where she receives this honor is obviously a big deal for her. In her interview with FIERCE, we hear in her voice how proud she is to land this role. While Chef Dayanny admitted she is excited about organizing the menus at the Super Bowl, for her, the real excitement comes when the party is over.
