Despite The Quintanilla Family’s Protests, Telemundo Is Moving Forward With The ‘El Secreto De Selena’ T.V. Series

Selena’s life has touched her fans ever since she hit the music scene. Her contagious smile and bubbly lyrics made her a favorite of both Spanish and English speaking music lovers alike. However, it is her death that has mystified the world for the past 24 years. Since that day in March of 1995, Selena’s fans have grieved the loss of the Queen of Tejano music and condemned the woman who took her life. Now, the story of her death and the following murder trial of her killer will be brought to US TV screens.

Telemundo has announced their new series — “El Secreto de Selena” — that will explore the murder investigation and trial following Selena’s death.

The series is based on the bestselling book by Puerto Rican journalist Maria Celeste Arrarás. Back in 1995, Arrarás covered the trial of Yolanda Saldívar and also conducted a questionable interview with the former fan club president. The Quintanilla family has long been vocal against the accuracy of Arrarás book.

In the past, sister Suzette has called it “based on a whole bunch of lies.”

As such, the family was not involved with the production of this series.

The family is involved, however, in a Netflix original series about the late star’s life. The untitled Selena project was announced at the end of 2018 and will begin production soon.

Of course, it’s not that surprising considering the disputes they’ve had over Selena’s estate.

Previously, patriarch Abraham Quintanilla and Selena’s husband, Chris Perez, have gone through litigation around the use of Selena’s likeness and story for any sort of media content.

Back in 2016, Perez wanted to produce TV series based on his memoir “To Selena With Love.” The courts found in the Quintanillas’ favor and the series was scrapped.

This controversial new series aired last year on Telemundo in Mexico and South America and will air in August in the United States.

In the series, Mexican actress Sofía Lama plays Arrarás, who also serves as a producer for “El Secreto de Selena.” In her book, the journalist shows herself as a protagonist alongside Selena and Saldívar. As such, the series will follow this narrative and Arrarás character will have quite a bit of screen time.

The role of Selena is played by Mexican actress Maya Zapata.

Zapata has acted in several television series and movies, including 2007’s “Bordertown” with Antonio Banderas and Jennifer Lopez. Of course, Lopez’s first starring role as an actress was in the 1997 movie “Selena,” proving it really is a small world.

Damayanti Quintanar plays Yolanda Saldívar.

The former president of Selena’s San Antonio-based fan club, Saldívar was confronted by the Quintinilla family for embezzling funds from Selena’s clothing boutiques. After she was fired, she lured Selena to a Corpus Christi hotel, begging for the chance to talk. It was there that she shot and killed the music star. Saldívar is eligible for parole in 2025.

Rounding out the ensemble cast, Venezuelan actor Daniel Elbittar portrays Selena’s husband Perez. The Quintanilla family is played by Jorge Zárate (Abraham), Baltimore Beltran (AB), Bárbara González (Suzette) and Úrsula Pruneda (Marcella).

The 13 episode run will first air in the States on August 25th with new episodes every Sunday.

The series will combine the acted script and real testimonials from Selena’s murder investigation and the trial of Saldívar.

While we aren’t sure if this new series will tell us anything we don’t already know about Selena’s life and death, we are certain that it will be an emotional series for Selena fans to watch.

Social media is a great way to spread your news. It seems like Bad Bunny might secretly be trying to spread some special news. A video on his girlfriend’s Instagram has everyone speculating that the Puerto Rican artist is now engaged.

It’s amazing how one video can send people into a series of tailspins.

It seems like a woman innocently sipping a smoothie and enjoying her day. However, if you look closely, you will see that the young woman is actually wearing a ring on an important finger.

The news is spreading fast all over social media.

Nothing has been confirmed but social media works as good as a small-town rumor mill. As soon as one person sees it, everyone has to know about it. Like, it can never just be a little secret for people hold among themselves. Twitter is the land of snap reactions and unfounded claims.

The rumor has already started breaking hearts across the internet.

Honestly, the best part about celebrities is believing that you can one day be their boo. Now, with this cryptic video, it is clear that Bad Bunny’s heart is being permanently taken away from us.

Some folks are just mad.

Like, calm down. It is literally not a big deal because of the likelihood of finding and marrying a celebrity is pretty low. Hollywood has spent too much time trying to get us to believe that that was so possible.

Some people are happy for the young woman finding happiness.

Nothing wrong with celebrating someone who is winning at life. If you were engaged to Bad Bunny, you’d be happy too.

Kevin Hart Backs Ellen DeGeneres Despite The Fact That Fans Canceled His Opinion A Long Time Ago

In 2019, comedian and actor Kevin Hart received a torrential downpour of heat from fans after a series of homophobic tweets and jokes he’d made in the past had been recovered and publicized. As a result, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ousted him from his position as host of the Oscars that year and fans demanded that he issue a mea culpa. After a day, Hart tweeted an apology to the LGBTQ community but later announced that he was reconsidering stepping down as host after comedian Ellen DeGeneres expressed support for Hart to do so. At the time, DeGeneres defended Hart and called the Academy to rally for Hart to be able to host again.

Around that time, DeGeneres also hosted Hart on her show and urged him to ignore the backlash he’d received. At the time, DeGeneres dismissed his critics as “haters.”

Now it seems that Hart feels that it’s his turn to defend DeGeneres.

In the wake of allegations and criticism about the show’s toxic workplace culture as well as DeGeneres’s role in facilitating it, Hart took to Instagram on Tuesday to say that he will love the comedian “for life.”

“It’s crazy to see my friend go thru what she’s going thru publicly,” the actor wrote in a post featuring the two stars smiling together on her show. “I have known Ellen for years and I can honestly say that she’s one of the dopest people on the f—— planet. She has treated my family and team with love and respect from day 1.”

“The internet has become a crazy world of negativity… we are falling in love with people’s downfall. It’s honestly sad..” Hart continued. “When did we get here? I stand by the ones I know and that I love. Looking forward to future where we are back to loving one another… this hate s*** has to stop. Hopefully, it goes out of style soon…”

Hart finished his post writing that he does not mean “to disregard the feelings of others and their experiences.”

Hart continued writing that the point of his message is “simply to show what my experiences have been with my friend. Love you for life Ellen.”

Last week, DeGeneres addressed allegations about her show and apologized. “My name is on the show and everything we do and I take responsibility for that,” she explained. “Alongside Warner Bros, we immediately began an internal investigation and we are taking steps, together, to correct the issues. As we’ve grown exponentially, I’ve not been able to stay on top of everything and relied on others to do their jobs as they knew I’d want them done. Clearly some didn’t. That will now change and I’m committed to ensuring this does not happen again.”
