Some On Instagram Say Super-Long Toenails Are The Go-To Look of the Summer, We Respectfully Disagree

We’re currently in the thick of summertime and you know what that means: sun’s out, toes out. And this year, the toenails are looking quite a bit different than usual. That’s right, the newest trend lighting up Instagram is one we never thought we’d see: extra-long toenail pedicures.

Fortunately for us, the toenails that are catching the most attention are super-manicured and appear to be acrylics. That means the length isn’t due to neglecting a toenail clipper (thank god), but due to paying someone to make the toenails longer with a little glue and some press-ons. So next time you take a trip to the nail salon, think about asking for the newest beauty trend: long toenail acrylics. You’re sure to be the coolest girl on the block.

We’ve compiled some of the most popular looks to offer you some inspiration.

We’ll start off gently

@7eetout/Instagram

Yes, these toenails are long, but they’re relatively mild compared to what you’re about to see. This is the standard look for the long-toenail trend. The color is solid, the shape is square, and the length isn’t so long that you can automatically spot them as acrylics.

These ones are a little more intense

@paints_his_toes/Instagram

It’s not the big toe that’s the most surprising of this look, but rather, the length of the small toes. It appears that this woman invested in acrylics for her small toes because, as we know, growing out your smaller toenails usually just ends in a lot of painful in-growns.

These big toes look suspiciously like duck bills

@7eetout/Instagram

We can’t say we’re a fan of these ones. While the previous looks (mostly) kept their biggest toes on the more natural side, these ones are so freakishly long that they’re obviously not home-grown. No one’s big toenail can get that long without curling over!

This is about as mainstream as the “long toenail trend” gets:

@tenlittlebeauties/Instagram

Here we have a perfectly lovely pair of feet (never thought I would write that sentence) with medium-long lengths for all her toenails. Yes, the length is a little longer than mainstream, but you wouldn’t be shocked to see these on the street. It’s also worth mentioning that this is one of the few pairs of feet not rocking toe rings, so it seems this person favors a more conservative look.

The long French pedicure

@7eetout/Instagram

The people who say French manicures are making a comeback probably didn’t have this in mind. The number one rule of a classy French manicure is that the white tips aren’t longer than the pink base. It’s a no from us, dawg.

The “Real Housewife” Look:

@7eetout/Instagram

Although this acrylic pedicure is pretty shocking up close, we could actually totally see it on a wealthy, married woman of a certain age.

Long and round pedicure

@inspire73/Instagram

Here’s a look that deviates from most of the other looks. While the other women seemed to opt for a squared-off look, this woman decided on rounded toenails. This is definitely one of the more unique pedicures we’ve ever seen. But of course, there’s more…

The bird talons

@brittanybubbleass/Instagram

The sheer length, width, and curve of these toenails are downright shocking. But what’s more shocking is about the number of fans this look has. The comments on this look’s post are very complimentary, to put it lightly.

The white claws:

@7eetout/Instagram

Although we love the look of a white pedicure, they’re not known for longevity. Unlike nudes, pinks, or other more neutral colors, a white pedicure can become ruined really quickly because the chips are so noticeable. We’re sure that long toenails expedite the chip-factor.

This pedicure looks like it would scrape the ground while walking

@7eetout/Instagram

You know your toenails are too long when they hang off the side of your open-toed sandals. It’s pictures like these that make us remember why short toenails are the go-to standard. They’re more livable and more convenient! This pedicure looks like it would be chipped by the sidewalk just from a brief walk.

The long red look seems to be the go-to style for pedicure acrylics

@kamichrom/Instagram

The reasoning behind that would make sense. Anyone who’s spending the time and money to make their toenails that long would definitely want them to stand out. And red polish is just another way to bring people’s eye-line down to your feet!

And finally, the long-nailed pedicure look that takes the cake:

@nail_sunny

If you were shocked by any of the previous ones, then this one is sure to send you over the edge. We’re not quite sure why anyone would be interested in getting toenail acrylics like this. But one simple Instagram search proves that there’s a market for this look.

Just In Time For Gifting Season: JLo and ARod Dropped An Affordable Sunglass Collab Collection With Quay Australia

Just as there is a separation between the church and state, so too, we’ve been told to set strict boundaries in business. “Never mix pleasure with business,” goes the saying, as old as time. And we all know that keeping friendly, or even worse, romantic, relationships with people with whom you do business is not always a good idea —Unless you’re the ultimate power couple, then by all means, mix it up, finesse us all and show us how it’s done. J.Lo and ARod are just that couple. And their venture into business together is off to a pretty good looking start.

Jenny from the block mixed business with pleasure on her latest collab with her sportsman partner Alex Rodriguez, except for her, the partnership was more like a good idea than a bad one.

instagram @quayaustralia

JLo and ARod teamed up with Australian eyewear brand Quay Australia to create a range of glamorous statement shades that won’t set you back more than $60.

The couple shot the campaign for their collection in Miami—a place they both call home.

instagram @quayaustralia

The singer and actress posed with the former baseball shortstop in a series of sultry, tropical-infused images to promote the couple’s sunglass collection. The dynamic duo shot the campaign in Miami. “It was really special to be able to shoot in Miami with Jennifer, she was the one who introduced me to Quay Australia,” said ARod in an interview with Elle. Lopez, on her part, told People how shooting in Miami felt natural, since it’s the place she calls home. “I’ve had a love affair with Miami for many years, and now it’s our city—it’s our second home,” she added.

ARod and JLo are the only couple who can color coordinate their outfits and still look stylish af.

instagram @robzangardi

The series of photographs feature the powerhouse couple coordinating looks in bright, bold colors giving them that #couplegoals look that many of us have tried and failed at achieving. “It’s always easy when we get to do things together,” Lopez told People about shooting the campaign. “We always wind up laughing out loud.” —couple goals I tell ya.

The shades are divided into two collections, but all the styles are unisex.

Instagram @robzangardi

The dual collection is already shoppable on Quay Australia’s website. None of the shades cost more than $60, and while Alex and Jennifer have ‘his’ and ‘hers’ product pages, both ranges work pretty well on both men and women.

JLo gave her shades, witty names in Spanish while ARod chose more classic styles and names.

Instagram @quayaustralia

Jennifer’s selection is tad bit flashier —to be expected from the queen of the Bronx— they feature fancier, bolder hardware. Another detail we loved, is that J.Lo gave her shades, names in Spanish, like “La Reina,” “La Playa,” and “El Dinero.” Alex’s options though, are more understated and classic, the shapes come with a thin wire rim and they feature names such as “Poster Boy” and “Apollo.”

“I’ve followed the brand for quite some time and love how they are disrupting the eyewear category. I’ve never had a pair of sunglasses that fit so well and the fact that you can get high quality, polarized sunglasses for $50 is pretty great,” Alex said —and we couldn’t agree more on that price point remark.

The ‘Hustlers’ star first collaborated with Quay in March.

Instagram @jlo

When her first collab dropped —on the same month that she announced her engagement to Alex Rodriguez after two years of dating— J.Lo took to instagram to share the news and her love for sunglasses; “Sunglasses are my accessory of self-expression. I can wear them from the gym to the red carpet, and this line perfectly captures the sporty, but also sexy and glam vibe that I love!”

The brand has always been great at teaming up with celebrities to create glasses people want.

Instagram @quayaustralia

Quay Australia’s most recent A-list partnership was with Chrissy Teigen, who told Harper’s Bazaar that she really wanted to ensure her looks worked for all kinds of different face shapes and preferences. “I tend to lean towards oversized sunglasses because I don’t love putting on a full face of makeup every day.” This idea seemed to be kept in mind for J.Lo’s second Quay launch as well. Though there are lots of different small options available, we have to say, the big ones are still our faves.

Comprised of 18 styles, the line offers a wide selection of chic glasses – featuring bold shields, flirty cat-eye shades and classic aviators. Shop the collection at quayaustralia.com.

MJ Rodriguez Makes History By Signing First Ever Beauty Deal With Olay Body As Trans Woman

mjrodriguez7 / Instagram

Actress and singer MJ Rodriguez is having an incredible whirlwind year. In 2019, she continued her role as Blanca Rodriguez in the history making series “Pose.” Her moving and capitalizing performance won her “Best Actress” at the Imagen Awards; the first time an openly trans women has ever received the honor. She also became the first transgender woman of color to play the role of Audrey in a major production of “Little Shop of Horrors.” Rodriguez even preformed the play’s popular love ballad “Suddenly Seymour” on the “Late Late Show with James Corden” — wowing the TV audience with her powerful vocals. In addition to all that success, this week, her activism, advocacy and talent was celebrated when Rodriguez was named one of TIME Magazine’s 100 NEXT.

Now, Rodriguez officially has one more win to close out her successful 2019.

Twitter / @outmagazine

This week, Rodriguez made history by securing her first ever beauty campaign. The “Pose” star announced her new partnership with Olay Body at the 5th Annual Diversity Summit where she gave the keynote speech. She will officially be one of the label’s brand ambassadors — making her the first trans Afro-Latina to fill this role with Olay.

“Olay Body is leading by example for other brands by opening doors for trans individuals like myself,” Rodriguez said during her speech. “I am so excited to work with Olay Body on this campaign leading up to my speech at the Diversity Summit. This is officially my first ever beauty campaign — I am so thankful to have the opportunity to show other trans women of color everywhere that they are seen and that they are worthy.”

Rodriguez’s campaign joins other trans women like Laverne Cox, Tracey Norman, Lea T and Geena Rocero — who have all recently worked with hair, makeup, and skincare brands in public roles.

Rodriguez isn’t the only one excited about this new opportunity. Olay Body also expressed their eagerness to explore the new partnership and the diversity and inclusivity that Rodriguez brings to the brand. In an email to “Out,” the body care company shared their excitement over their new brand ambassador.

“Olay Body is excited to work with Mj Rodriguez on this campaign, as Mj is truly a recognized trailblazer,” the brand wrote. “She has transformed not just personally and professionally, but also as a leading advocate for diversity and inclusivity. This makes her the perfect fearless partner, where she is able to share her authentic journey of feeling confident in her own skin. As we begin to plan for future programs, Mj is definitely top of mind. We can’t divulge specifics at this time, but stay tuned for what’s coming next!”

For the first act of their partnership, Rodriguez did Olay Body’s 14 Day Transformation and posted the results on her Instagram.

While she’s incredibly honored to have been selected as a brand ambassador, the call from Olay caught her off guard. Rodriguez even doubted if she was up to the task.

“When they called me, I screamed on the phone, because Olay is one of the leading forces in beauty,” she explained to “The Cut” of her new project. “I was like ‘Oh my god, am I really being considered for this, am I worthy?’”

Rodriguez explained that for trans women and women of color, these opportunities don’t usually come around so she was overwhelmed yet honored with the responsibility.

“For starters, I’ve never been able to be considered for a partnership like this,” she told “The Cut.” “A lot of girls like myself — trans women — we don’t get the opportunity to have open dialogue, let alone be in partnership with organizations like this. As a woman, as a black or Latina or trans woman, we have to constantly give words of affirmation to ourselves. It’s just hard for us. I’m just focusing on amplifying my voice, trying to get it out there as much as possible.”

Of course, Rodriguez’s online fans showered her with love and affirmation for her new role with Olay Body.

Twitter / @outioflove

Rodriguez’s mentions are full of fans congratulating her and wishing her the best for her career. One tweet by @guida told the star, “You deserve every good thing coming your way, I’m so happy for you!” Another by @nel_mamaboho thanked the actress, saying, “I actually truly love you just because YOU ARE SEEN. Your visibility makes so many more of us unavoidable. Thank Y.O.U.”

Rodriguez is truly paving the way for the visibility of other trans people and people of color. As an Afro-Latina, a trans woman and a member of the LBGTQ+ community, she represents many groups of marginalized people. As such, her role with Olay Body will set the precedent that these groups can and should have a visible place in our society.
