RuPaul And Cory Booker Find Out They’re Cousins And The Internet Couldn’t Be Happier

For awhile now those DNA ancestry test things have been super popular among people, as many want to learn more about their family’s past. Which makes sense: so many of us want to feel a connection to our ancestors and know more about our roots.

Well, if you’re a celebrity there’s a show called Finding Your Roots that’s literally dedicated to helping explore the roots of America’s cultural icons. One of the show’s most recent guests was none other than America’s Drag Queen Superstar RuPaul.

In his episode, he discovered that he was related to a sitting U.S. senator and the pair are already hoping for a big family reunion sometime soon!

RuPaul and Sen. Cory Booker find out their family thanks to a TV show.

The PBS show Finding Your Roots has been around for several seasons now, as it follows celebrities as they discover their family ancestry. It’s full of cute and heartwarming moments and also apparently it’s making families out of celebs as well.

On this week’s episode, which featured glamazon RuPaul (along with fashion designers Diane von Furstenberg and Narciso Rodriguez), the guests were treated to a deep dive into their personal genetics. When analyzing Ru’s admixture results, Gates and his team discover that he and Sen. Cory Booker are DNA cousins.

It turns out that Booker was a guest on the series back in Season 1, so when analysts compared his DNA with RuPaul’s, they found that they shared a “long stretch of identical DNA” from Ru’s first chromosome.

When host Henry Louis Gates Jr. shares the news with Ru along with a picture of Booker, Ru replies, “He looks like my kin!” He then adds, “There’s a sweetness about him that I’ve always loved, and an intellect that is undeniable. Every time I’ve ever seen him he reminds me of my cousin Yula.”

The show is called Finding Your Roots and it’s pretty addictive to watch.

Educator Henry Louis Gates Jr. has returned with new episodes of Finding Your Roots, which is now in its sixth season. The host “continues his quest to get into the DNA of American culture” by examining celebrities’ DNA and educating them about their ancestral histories.

The show has helped explore the pasts of major celebs including Ava DuVernay and Justina Machado to Alejandro González Iñárritu And Sandra Cisneros.

Cory Booker wants the world to know that he is ‘very happy’ with the family ties to Queen Mama, RuPaul.

A few days after the episode aired, Sen. Cory Booker was a guest on The Wendy Williams Show and he exclaimed “Yes!” when Wendy Williams told him the news. He went on to say that he had “told everybody that would listen in my world” about the news.

“Since [the show] keeps the data of past people, he saw RuPaul and I have a very strong common DNA chain which demonstrates that we’re very close cousins,” he said.

“So yeah, my mom knows, I just, I love RuPaul, and I haven’t had a chance to talk to him since the news was revealed but I was very happy about that news and I hope that he and I can have a family reunion sometime.”

The two cousins have even met up before. Last year, Booker, who was running for the Democratic presidential nomination at the time, appeared on the drag icon’s talk show “RuPaul.”

Surprise, surprise! Another racist white woman ahs been caught on camera harassing her Black neighbors. This time the target was a Black family who had been neighbors of the alleged racist for more than ten years.

It seems that every week we see new videos going viral involving white peoples being racists. In some of these incidents, these individuals have threatened or called the police on Black Americans doing seemingly routine or nonthreatening activities.

Such actions from white Americans have received heightened national scrutiny, particularly in the wake of the Black Lives Matter and anti-racism demonstrations that have taken place across the country and around the world in the past several months. Demonstrators have called for an end to systemic racism in U.S. society, and in particular for major police reforms and changes to the justice system.

But none of that seemed to matter to this woman who wanted her Black neighbors to start acting white.

A White woman is going viral after threatening her Black neighbor and telling her to “act white.”

The Jones family, who have lived in California’s Discovery Bay neighborhood for more than ten years, captured their neighbor asking, “Why don’t you act like a white person in a white neighborhood?”

According to the family, who spoke with local media, they haven’t previously had any problems with white neighbors. But that changed when a white neighbor confronted them on Monday, in an incident that was captured on video.

Gerritt Jones and his family have lived in the Bay Area neighborhood for 12 years and say they’ve never had any issues involving the woman they identify as Adana Dean, who lives across the street from them.

In surveillance video and cell phone video provided to ABC7 News by the Jones family, you can hear Adana say “You know what? You guys are acting like Black people and you should act like white people.”

She goes on to say in another clip “You’re a Black person in a white neighborhood and you’re acting like one why don’t you act like a white person in a white neighborhood?”

“Unfortunately that’s the reality of being black in America,” says Gerritt.

The incident made headlines and got the attention of the country sheriff.

Adana had threatened the family with her racist words but was also holding a stun gun when she confronted the family. As a result, the Contra Costa County Sheriff did respond to the incident and spoke to both parties, although no charges were filed.

“The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff takes these types of acts seriously. Deputy sheriffs responded to the home yesterday and contacted both parties involved,” Jimmy Lee, director of public affairs at the sheriff’s office, said in a statement.

Although deputies determined that no crime had been committed, a report was taken to document the interaction between the two neighbors, as the original complaint was in reference to a neighbor dispute due to an off-leash dog,” Lee said.

Unfortunately, incidents like this one are far too common across the country.

“It don’t matter if you grew up in a gated community your whole life,” Gerritt Jones, another family member, told KNTV. “It’s bound to happen. It’s going to happen. And as African Americans, unfortunately, we have to prepare our children on how to deal with this.”

“It was just very angering to see that come to our front door,” Jariell Jones, another family member added. She said her family has always gone out of their way to “be extra nice, say ‘yes, ma’am, yes, sir,’ which I feel is sick that we even have to feel that way.”

Jones added, “But even though we were trying to be good Black people in their good white neighborhood, they still treated us this way.”

However, the incident has empowered the family to be who they are. “We’re going to act Black in our white neighborhood,” Jones added.

Many think that being old means that people no longer get to enjoy the many things that young people can – like fall in love. Then, throw in a global health crisis in the form of a pandemic and many will say the odds are stacked even higher against you.

Well, one Brazilian couple – who have 196 years on Earth between the two of them – are proving that it’s never too late to find love. And they’re sending the Internet into a frenzy with their romance while giving hope to those of us who haven’t been so lucky in love.

A Brazilian couple have made headlines for getting married at a very advanced age.

Although finding love might not be high on most people’s priorities these days – as so many of us are focused on surviving the Covid-19 pandemic and a whirlwind presidential election – that’s exactly what one elderly couple from Brazil just did.

The story of Marcelino and Branca, both from São Paulo, Brazil, show us how we should never give up. At 100 and 96 respectively, they were just married and can’t wait to spend the rest of their lives together.

The couple met in a nursing home two years ago but during a Coronavirus-induced lockdown, the pair grew closer. Although in an interview with Telemundo, Marcelo says that he new Branca was the love of his life from the moment they first met.

Their marriage took place at a small ceremony in front of their own children, some of whom are more than 70 years old.

Because of Covid-19, the couple celebrated their love for one another with a small wedding ceremony attended by their closest relatives and a few close friends and roommates from the nursing home where they first met.

The incredible story has filled Marcelino and Branca with new life, joy and youth. So you know, it’s never too late to find love.

They’re not the only couple to have found love amid the pandemic!

Also out of Brazil, a couple who first met 55 years ago as teenagers have reunited and fallen in love all over again.

Antonia Leni and Paulino dos Santos had dated briefly when she was 16 and he was 15 – they say they were each other’s first love. After high school, they each followed their own paths, made their own lives, until fate appears to have brought them back together.

It all happened after Antonia, after being diagnosed with depression and having tried to commit suicide, was transferred to a mental health hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to receive the best care, a place where Paulino also resided since he suffered an unfortunate accident.

He recognized her immediately and although it was difficult for him to get close to Antonia, little by little they began to remember their beautiful moments together in adolescence. On Valentine’s Day, Paulino surprised his beloved with a beautiful gold ring to ask for her hand and after nine months of engagement, the couple celebrated their wedding with the help of 100 volunteers, including his family and the staff of the nursing home.

How about you? Do you have any Coronavirus love stories? Or know somebody who does?
