One Rumor On Twitter Has The Internet Debating If Camila Cabello Can Act Well Enough To Be In ‘West Side Story’

Rumors are swirling that Camila Cabello might be making her acting debut on Steven Spielberg’s remake of “West Side Story” and it has Twitter torn. Not because they don’t want another “West Side Story”, but because they are not sure Cabello will be able to handle the role of Maria, the main character. Here’s what happened when the rumor hit the Twitter-verse.

It took one tweet for people to start a debate over Camila Cabello’s ability to act.

It is just a rumor and she would have to audition if she wanted to play the part. The casting call went out just two weeks ago so there is no idea who has and hasn’t auditioned or been called back.

Some people just want to know if she can act.

Fair question.

But Cabello stans did come to her side and showed proof her acting experience.

Cabello did release a telenovela-inspired super mini-film as her music video for “Havana” in October 2017. Does that count as acting experience? You decide.

Some people did have suggestions for other “West Side Story” roles for Cabello.

Okay. They really only suggested Anita. That way she is following in Rita Moreno’s footsteps and people seem more confident in her acting chops to take on that role.

There were some people who don’t want it happen because she isn’t Puerto Rican.

Never mind that Natalie Wood who played Maria in the original film was not Puerto Rican or even Latina playing a New York Puerto Rican.

But there are equally as many people that are super excited to see Cabello in the film.

Again, it is just a rumor. Who knows what will actually happen but it is clear that a Cabello appearance in the film is already causing quite the stir on social media.

Major entertainment companies have given up on the wild idea that movie theaters would reopen in 2020. More and more movies are getting released later as the Covid-19 crisis worsens in the U.S. The highly anticipated “West Side Story” is the latest movie to fall victim to the crisis.

The release of “West Side Story” has officially been pushed to 2021.

Fans have been very excited to see this movie since the cast was announced last year. Who can forget seeing the news that 17-year-old Rachel Zegler got cast after a viral video of her singing “Shallow” in her high school auditorium? It was like a family member winning the big role they always wanted. But, alas, because of Covid, and the federal government’s response, things have to be pushed back.

The cast has played into our fantasies by teasing us with the release of the film.

Like, we have put in the time and waited for this retelling of an American classic. We had a Latina in the role of the lead Latina, unlike in the original, and that was something we were all celebrating.

The same cast members who hyped us up are now trying to help us make it through.

We just need to breathe and relax. This year has really taken a lot away from us but it has also taught us patience and understanding. The world is not ready for us to go to movie theaters again.

Even still, fans are upset that they cannot see the movies they have been waiting for.

A lot of movies have been pushed back. Another Latino-heavy movie that fans have wanted to see for years that is being delayed, yet again, is “In the Heights.” The Lin-Manuel Miranda creation has been in the works for years and we finally had a release date for 2020. Then, well, Covid happened and that was that on that.

Basically, Covid is not making it easy to be a movie buff.

Boo indeed. We just want to enjoy our movies that we have been waiting to see for years. Why can’t we have these nice things? Like, when will we be able to just sit down and watch our favorite things? The world may never know.

Rachel Zegler Has Cryptic Response To ‘West Side Story’ Co-Actor’s Sexual Assault Accusations

Last week, in a series of tweets a woman accused West Side Story actor Ansel Elgort of sexual assault. Over the weekend, he spoke out against the allegations to defend himself.

Last week, Twitter user @Itsgabby accused Baby Driver actor of sexually assaulting her in 2014.

In her claims, the user explained that the incident occurred she was 17 years old and he was 20. Her statement, which has since been deleted from the platform along with her Twitter account, @Itsgabby claimed that the two had exchanged Snapchat messages, and a few days after her 17th birthday, had a non-consensual sexual interaction.

“So when it happened instead of asking me if I wanted to stop having sex knowing it was my first time and I was sobbing in pain and I didn’t want to do it the only words that came out of his mouth were ‘we need to break you in,” the woman claimed.

The user went on to describe how the assault has led to her suffering from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and panic attacks for which she has sought therapy.

In response to the claims, Elgort asserted that the events were “simply not what happened.”

“Gabby and I had a brief, legal, and entirely consensual relationship,” he wrote, adding that he had poorly handled breaking things off with her by ignoring her messages. “As I look back at my attitude, I am disgusted and deeply ashamed of the way I acted.”

In response to his reply, while many supported Elgort, a trove of men and women underlined that Gabby had only been seventeen at the time of their “brief” relationship.

“This is not an apology. He’s pretending to be the victim and saying shes mad that he ghosted her. Do not make excuses for him. I don’t care if u find him attractive or not he is a pedophile and a rapist and he belongs in jail!” one Twitter user wrote in a comment on Twitter.

In response to the claims, co-stars who had worked with Elgort have not spoken out on his behalf.

However, his West Side Story co-star Rachel Zegler has liked tweets about believing survivors of sexual assault. She has also liked a number of tweets that asserted she was not required to speak on Elgort’s behalf.

“I am feeling a little lost tonight and I am feeling a little disappointed,” she wrote in a tweet they day Gabby came forward with her claim. “I know some of you are, too. that’s the world right now— but it’s necessary. I love you. loving you is the easiest thing for me to do. goodnight.”
