Rejoice! Netflix Gives ‘One Day At A Time’ Another Season

Three months since the debut of the hilarious and well-received “One Day at a Time,” a sitcom on Netflix, producers have given the show a much-praised second season.

“One Day At A Time” gets the green light for another season!

The comedy is based off of the old-school show with the same name that was released in the late ’70s, early ’80s, the main difference is that this contemporary version features a stellar Latino cast. The show’s premise centers around Penelope Alvarez, played by Justina Machado, a Cuban-American nurse, Iraq war Veteran, and single mom raising her two young kids along with her own mother played by Rita Moreno — probably the funniest person on the show.

Oh! And the theme song is sung by the great Gloria Estefan!

The show’s success and acclaimed reviews surely attributed to its second season renewal. But one of the main reasons this show deserves to be on the air is because it truly captures the dynamic and nuances of a modern-day Latino family that gets into real issues without being corny. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 96% approval rating, and that in itself is a pretty big deal.

The cast celebrated the good news about their second season with the cutest video ever.

Second Season!!!! #onedayatatime

Eugenio Derbez And Anna Faris Are Taking On Iconic Roles In Upcoming Remake Of This Classic Comedy

How To Be A Latin Lover / Jimmy Kimmel Live

Fans of the 1987 comedy classic “Overboard” have reason to cheer, Latina reports. Eugenio Derbez and Anna Faris have been cast to play the lead roles in the upcoming remake, which originally starred Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.

One very important detail has been altered for this reimagined version of “Overboard.”

In the original, Goldie Hawn plays a rich heiress, while Kurt Russell plays a blue-collar father of four boys. When Goldie Hawn falls off her yacht, Kurt Russell is there to ‘save’ her, leading to one of the most memorable 80s comedy plots.

However, for the upcoming remake, the roles have received a gender swap. Eugenio Derbez instead plays a “spoiled playboy” from one of Mexico’s richest families, while Anna Faris takes on the working-class role.

The role-reversal was necessary for the “Overboard” remake to stand on its own.

In a statement, Jonathan Glickman, president of the Film Division at MGM, said, “The original ‘Overboard’ was beloved and the only way to bring it back is to reinvent the story in a whole new way. Anna and Eugenio are two of the most charismatic forces in comedy whose take on the material will modernize the story for a whole new generation of moviegoers.”

For Eugenio Derbez, the upcoming remake is just another chance to show the value that Mexican actors bring to U.S. productions.

In an interview with Variety, the 55-year-old actor shared his thoughts on why working in the U.S. is important for other hopeful Latin American writers and actors, saying:

As Mexicans, we always laugh when we watch ‘Mexican’ characters in American films, because we can tell immediately that they were born here and have the wrong accent, so it’s basically faking the culture. And I know what my audience laughs at, what they cry at, and my goal is to give a chance to new writers and actors who can bring a new, authentic flavor to the projects.
