Mariah Carey Hinted That She Is Open To Collaborating With Lil Nas X And People Are Freaking Out

Lil Nas X has made headlines a lot lately. First, he had a song that blew up the country charts called “Old Town Road” with Billy Ray Cyrus. The song showed that the rapper was able to cross over into any genre and make it a success. He then made headlines again when he came out of the closet at the end of Pride month and the world celebrated. Now, Lil Nas X is setting Twitter on fire by suggesting that he and Mariah Carey should do a duet and, well, why not?

Lil Nas X wants to team up with Mariah Carey for a remix and, well, yes, please.

Lil Nas X is one of the most talked about musicians right now. Everyone has heard “Old Town Road” and the crossover hit is something we are still bopping to. Somehow, the rapper turned country star made Billy Ray Cyrus relevant again for more than being Miley Cyrus’s dad and that is something to admire.

Now he is asking Mariah Carey to join him for a remix and that just seems perfect. The singer is arguably one of the most talented famous musicians on the planet and her fandom is super dedicated. A hit with Carey is basically a way to immortalize yourself in pop culture.

Carey responded with a title mashing up one of her songs with Lil Nas X’s country hit.

Ummm…who doesn’t want this collab to happen? “One Sweet Day” and “Old Town Road” are two separate hits that we all love. Could you imagine them coming together and spreading their love all over the world?

Billboard shared a list of the longest running top songs and both artists are on the list.

the power between them to make a certified hit would definitely change the course of music history. If Mariah Carey could hold the top spot with 16 weeks and Lil Nas X can come in with 14 weeks, would a collab be the best hit ever? It might be. Who knows? Maybe Carey and Lil Nas X can team up and show us what they are made of.

Fans are already through around possible titles for the remix.

LOL. “Whistle Notes Edition” just sounds like a hit. We all know the iconic whistle notes that Carey has sent out in the universe and adding them to bop like “Old Town Road” just makes sense.

People are already stanning a remix that hasn’t even happened.

Basically, you can get that feeling by listening to the tow artist in the same playlist. We have seen crazier collabs that made so little sense, like Justin Bieber on “Despacito.” Who will ever forget him saying “burrito burrito” during a performance at a bar because he didn’t know the words and somehow that was his best bet?

Btw, Carey is ready to tap back into her country roots.

She already showed us that she has what it takes when the sang “Almost Home” for the “Oz the Great and the Powerful.” The Venezuelan singer clearly understands what it means to do the country thing and we should all be excited of her doing it again.

Lil Nas X fans can’t wait for a remix with Carey.

Her star power would definitely fit well with the rapper. He has built a name for himself and having her attached to one of his projects will only make him bigger and better. Stars supporting stars. That’s what this is all about.

People are begging Carey to make this happen.

We all know that the person who would have to make it happen is her. He is on board and so are his fans. We need just need her people to approve this project and get the ball rolling.

And, despite all of the excitement, it has made some people so excited that they’re confused.

We don’t know what is going on, but we ship it and approve it. Please make this happen, you two.

Here’s Why Mariah Carey Doing The Theme Song For ABC’s New ‘Mixed-ish’ Series Means So Much For Biracial People

This Tuesday, the pilot episode of the “Black-ish” spin-off, “Mixed-ish” premiered. The series centers around the Johnson family matriarch, Rainbow’s, childhood growing up as a mixed-race child in the ’80s. According to “Mixed-ish” creators, the show will center around the complications of growing up with a biracial identity in a culture that sees things in black-and-white. For the growing population of Americans that have grown up in a mixed-race household, this feels like a story that is long overdue to be told.

As if the entire premise wasn’t exciting enough, it was recently revealed that the show’s theme song would be sung by none other than the biracial Afro-Latina queen Mariah Carey herself. Carey not only sang the song, but she helped co-write and produce it as well. It’s obvious from her involvement in the song’s creation that the story of a biracial girl navigating her identity is near and dear to Carey’s heart.

But Carey isn’t the only one who’s sung theme songs of television shows they were passionate about. Take a look at a list of 10 artists who recorded theme songs for TV shows they felt connected with.

1. One Day At a Time – Gloria Estefan

Gloria Estefan lent her voice to the heartfelt sitcom that centered around a Cuban-American family living in Los Angeles. This show was especially relevant to Estefan because she is also Cuban-American. Estefan called the opportunity “one of my favorite experiences in my career” and said she was “instantly hooked” when Norman Lear reached out to her to re-record the theme song.

2. Wizards Of Waverly Place – Selena Gomez

“Wizards of Waverly Place” was close to Selena Gomez’s heart because it was the first TV show she ever headlined. So many of us have vivid memories of singing along to her cute rendition of “Everything Is Not What It Seems”. Who knew she would end up being a giant pop star just a few years later?

3. Kim Possible – Christina Milian

Cuban-American singer Christina Milian lent her voice to the endlessly catchy “Kim Possible” theme song “Call Me, Beep Me!”. According to Milian, she jumped at the chance to sing the song because she was a “Disney kid”. She hasn’t ruled out the possibility of re-visiting the song in concerts for her die-hard fans.

4. Sister Sister – Tia And Tamera Mowry

Although the first few seasons of “Sister Sister” had goofy, animated segments accompanying their theme music, during the fifth season, the Mowrys wanted a change.  According to them, they remixed the theme song to “reflect their growth and maturity as individuals”.

5. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air – Will Smith

Will Smith’s “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” theme song is the perfect example of a musician who created a theme song that was close to his heart. The lyrics not only gave a short-and-sweet backstory of Smith’s character, but it included his signature charm and wit as well.

6. Proud Family – Solange and Destiny’s Child

Back before Destiny’s Child became a global-dominating music force, before Solange became a critical darling and independent musician, the four young ladies recorded a song for a Disney animated show. The song was special to Beyonce and Solange especially because the lyrics touched on themes of family, love, patience, and forgiveness.

7. A Different World – Aretha Franklin

According to producers of “A Different World”, Aretha Franklin was recruited to sing the theme song of season two through five after deciding to go in a different direction from the original singer. Once Franklin was contacted, she was more than happy to hop on board. Why? Because she “loved the show” according to executive producer Debbie Allen.

8. New Girl – Zooey Deschanel

Zooey Deschanel not only starred in and executive produced Fox’s hit series “New Girl”, but she also sang the theme song. Deschanel was connected to the  show because it was “about someone who is taking on a new life,” Deschanel continued. She wanted the theme song to be “musically uplifting,” so she created an up-beat catchy tune to open the show.

9. Zoey 101 – Jamie Lynn Spears

Kids who grew up in the early ‘aughts remember the buzz around this TV show before it premiered. Not only was it starring Brintey Spears’ little sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, but the elder Spears herself co-wrote the song with Jamie Lynn. Jamie Lynn Spears was ultimately the one who lent her voice to the iconic theme song “Follow Me”.

10. Sweet Sixteen – Hillary Duff

MTV’s guilty-pleasure reality TV show was notorious for recruiting spoiled rich kids throwing temper tantrums because they didn’t get the car they wanted on their birthday. But Hilary Duff’s treacly version of “Sweet Sixteen” made all of the bad behavior seem less offensive. It helped that Duff was only sixteen herself when she recorded the song.

Mariah Carey Is Re-Issuing Her ‘Merry Christmas’ Album With New Content And The Internet Is Losing Its Mind

Love her or hate her, you have to admit that Mariah Carey is a cultural stalwart. Endlessly entertaining and undeniably talented, it’s impossible for Carey to stay out of the spotlight for too long. This year, the elusive chanteuse herself has, again, cemented her status as The Queen of Christmas by gifting us all with an exciting new project.

The Afro-Venezuelan songstress took to Twitter with some big news about a new album of hers that’s on the horizon.

On Monday, Carey announced that she would be re-issuing her 1994 holiday album “Merry Christmas” in honor of the 25th Anniversary of its release.

Writing out the information on her mirror in red lipstick (naturally), Carey revealed the details of the revamped album. Dressed in a silk robe, MC explained that the double-album would be released on November 1st and was available for pre-order immediately. According to Carey, along with the reissued album, her website would be selling Mariah Carey-themed holiday merchandise and other “stuff” geared towards her die-hard fans.

According to her website, the double-album will include the original “Merry Christmas” album on the first CD. The second CD, however, will have “rare remixes, previously unreleased live tracks from Mariah’s 1994 St. John the Divine concert, and Mariah’s brand-new, festive rendition of the Sugar Plum Fairy”. For those of us who don’t follow Mimi as closely as her “lambily” does, the St. John the Divine concert was a 1994 performance at Harlem’s historic cathedral where Carey (then in peak vocal form) apparently brought the house down with her musical prowess. Up to this point, the only song that has been released from that night, however, is “Joy to the World”. Needless to say, fans are very excited about these songs that have heretofore been locked away.

Carey’s “Merry Christmas” album has been monumental in its success, having sold 15 million copies worldwide and becoming the best-selling Christmas album of all time.

And of course, the album’s lead single, “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, has become a cultural phenomenon. Not only has the original song garnered countless covers and remixes from other singers, but it has surpassed its status as a holiday song to become the 12th best-selling single of all time. Not to mention, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has charted on the Billboard Hot 100 every holiday season since its release.

For many people, celebrating Christmas with Mariah Carey has become a yearly tradition. It’s no wonder that Carey chooses to update and re-release the album every few years to keep milking her cash cow. We don’t blame her! And although she may be reluctant to take on the title of “Queen of Christmas”, its undeniable that her songs are inextricable from the holiday celebration.

In a surprise that came to no one, Mariah Carey fans flooded Twitter with their unbridled excitement.

Mimi certainly knows how to whip up anticipation for her projects. We have a feeling MC knew that the long-awaited release of her 1994 St. John the Divine would send her fans into a frenzy.

It didn’t take long for MC’s fans to get right into the holiday spirit.

It’s not even October yet and we’re already putting up our stockings and hanging our mistletoe.

This Latino was almost too excited about the announcement to get his words out:

Just another reason for us to open up our wallets for The Queen of Christmas. Take our money! Take all of it!

This Twitter user had a genius idea for a bonus track on the new album.

We think this is a fantastic idea. After all, Carey is obviously open to collaboration, having recorded a duet of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” with Justin Bieber. If a Lil Nas X collab happened, we would be able to go to our graves with a smile on our face.

This MC-stan spoke on behalf of all the fans that had been curious about her secretive concert for a long time.

If her 1994 performance is anything like her other performances circa the mid-90s, we know that this album will be well worth the money.

As for us, we have to agree with what Mimi said on Monday about how she feels about celebrating the holidays in September: “I’m almost but not quite ready to celebrate Christmas yet. We’ve gotta get through Halloween and Thanksgiving first”. Amen. But as soon as November 1st rolls around, we’ll be ready to kick-off Christmas with her new double-album.
