J Lo Was Ambushed By Animal Rights Activists At The Toronto Premiere Of ‘Hustlers’ And Here’s Why

The countdown to Hustlers has been going on for what seems like forever, but the Toronto International Film Festival brought everyone the film’s first major red carpet. However, the glitz and glamour of Jennifer Lopez wasn’t the only thing that stole the spotlight. According to TMZ, during the movie’s big premiere, PETA activists called the superstar out for wearing fur — the promotional material for Hustlers features Lopez’s character, Ramona, strutting in a fluffy white coat — and claiming that she hates animals.

While at the Toronto premier of her film Hustlers, J Lo rocked a fur coat and animal rights activists let her have it.

Actress and pop mega star Jennifer Lopez was ambushed by a throng of screaming animal rights activists during her red carpet appearance over the week where her new film Hustlers debuted at the Toronto Film Festival.

TMZ reports that the protestors got vocal on the periphery of the festival red carpet. While Lopez and her costars were walking in and snapping photos, protestors held up signs that read, “JLO HATES ANIMALS,” and shouted, “Shame on you J. Lo for wearing fur,” and, “Stop wearing fur Jennifer Lopez, stop wearing fox fur.”

Despite the protesters, J Lo kept her cool and didn’t seem to be bothered by people saying she ‘hates animals.’

Lopez didn’t respond to the protesters as they shouted at her from just a few feet away. The actress didn’t appear to be wearing fur as she strutted down the red carpet but Lopez does don a ton of fur in her new stripper revenge film.

J Lo has never been shy to wear fur and other animal products in films, a red carpet events, and in her Instagram.

Lopez’s character Ramona rocks fur in the film’s trailer (unclear if it’s faux or real), but the Jenny From The Block singer hasn’t shied away from wearing the real thing, either, and she’s gotten plenty of hate for it.

Many of J Lo’s favorite designers have recently announced that they’ve removing all fur from their collections.

Versace, Michael Kors, and Gucci announced that they’d stop using fur in their designs — and all three happen to be among Lopez’s favorite lines. Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren went fur-free back in 2007 and Stella McCartney, the Prada Group, and Giorgio Armani have also pledged to stop using animal fur.

You can check out more of her furry looks here:

A casual scroll through her Instagram and you’ll find many looks featuring fur. Of course, there’s no real way to know if she’s rocking faux fur but given the amount of hate she gets for wearing animal products, if she was wearing faux fur you think she would happily point it out.

And then there’s this look too:

This one is straight from the trailer of her new film, Hustlers, and probably one of the things that set off the animal rights activists.

Many on Twitter, even those who call themselves J Lo mega fans, were not happy with the actresses fashion choices.

From J Lo super fans to die hard animal rights activists, comments on Twitter were largely in favor of the protesters. People know that in 2019 there is no need to be wearing real fur.

More people than ever understand the horrors involved with the cruel and deadly fur industry and with so many cruelty-free alternatives available, why would someone still choose to harm animals?

Despite the drama on the red carpet, her film Hustlers seems to be getting plenty of love from critics.

While protesters may have criticized her, everyone who turned out to give the film a watch had plenty of praise to share. Ceck out some of the initial reviews via Twitter:

Sage Young, from Bustle, said “I saw #Hustlers weeks ago, and I’ve been dying to tell you: at one point of Jennifer Lopez’s first scene, my soul left my body.” While Mara Wilson took to Twitter to say “Saw #HUSTLERS tonight and loved it. Funny, sad, smart, entertaining, a crime movie, an indictment of privilege, and an exploration of the joys and complications of female friendship.”

Meanwhile, there was also drama inside the theatre when it looked like J Lo nearly fell from a balcony.

In another PR flub also caught on camera during the film festival, Jennifer Lopez is seen nearly taking a fall off a balcony during her movie’s premiere. Lopez is seen catching her balance and laughing off what was clearly a scary slip.

JLo And Shakira Are In Charge Of The Super Bowl Half Time Performance, But We Want To Know Who Will Be The Guest

There’s already so much stardom packed into one Super Bowl half time show with Jennifer Lopez and Shakira performing, that it’s hard to think how they’re supposed to condense it into a half hour show. To make things even more interesting, the internet has been wondering, who’s appearing on stage as a guest. And there’s already a fan favorite. Here’s everything you need to know.

How will they cram so much superstardom into such a 30 minute-long performance?

There’s already enough talk about this year’s Super Bowl performance. Are JLo and Shakira really not getting along in the days leading up to their show? Which hits will they be performing? And now, most recently, who will be joining the two Latinas in the watched-by-the-entire-world program? Twitter just voted and if it’s any indication of what’s coming, it should be interesting.

Their performance at the big game has special meaning for J-Lo and Shakira.

During an interview with ET Canada, the two expressed their excitement to be representing the Latino community. “I love that the Super Bowl has two women performing this year, that they have two Latinos performing this year,” J-Lo said in the interview that aired last September. “This is a marker of a new time, not just for the NFL but for the country.” “I’m honored, I’m humbled, to be next to J-Lo, representing the Latino community,” Shakira added. “It’s such an important force in the United States,” added Shakira.

The world was astonished when it was announced in 2019 that not only would Jennifer Lopez be headlining the halftime show, but also Shakira.

Both Latinas are two of the biggest names in music on one worldwide stage. And sharing the stage on this occasion seems to have been producer Jay-Z’s idea, so how could Lopez and Shakira say no? The two women spoke with ET Canada at the time of the announcement in 2019. Lopez said, “I love that it’s in Miami, it is a very Latino town.”

Who does Twitter think should join Lopez and Shakira on the halftime show stage?

Billboard.com asked Twitter, “Who do you hope #Shakira & #JenniferLopez bring out as a guest during their Super Bowl halftime performance? Vote!”

The running rumor has been that Miami native Pitbull will be joining them.

In fact, it’s reported that Pitbull has been pushing to get invited on the halftime show stage and his fans initiated a Change.org petition to get him added to the billing for the show

Fans believe there are obvious reasons why Pitbull should be the guest appearance.

Almost immediately after J Lo and Shakira announced they were co-headlining the event fans started buzzing that Pitbull is a MUST-HAVE guest on the stage too. Turns out some big wigs in Miami feel exactly the same way.

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ, Pitbull’s camp has had talks with J Lo’s team and the NFL about making the guest appearance happen.

More than that, TMZ reported that honchos at Hard Rock Cafe International are pushing for Mr. Worldwide to get on the stage—Remember, the game’s being played at Hard Rock Stadium.

Everyone’s aware of the groundswell to have an authentic Miami artist to rep the city—and the obvious choices are Pitbull or Gloria Estefan.

The thing is, Gloria’s already performed at 2 Super Bowls—’92 in Minneapolis and ’99 in—where else—Miami.

Sources connected to Roc Nation—which is producing the Halftime Show in conjunction with the NFL—say “other surprise acts” will definitely appear with Shakira and J Lo.

While there’s no deal in place yet, TMZ reports that everyone involved is aware of the momentum—public and corporate—to make room for Pitbull.

Twitter reactions to the question range from, “Pitbull, Yo!” to “Beyoncé” and even Camila Cabello.

One Twitter user wrote: “Shakira is already bringing out JLo as a guest so that’s enough” another even speculated: “Beyoncé!” —do they want the stage to explode from all that star power? Tweeters also threw out Camila Cabello’s name a couple of times, as well as Gloria Estefan’s yet again.

It’s looking pretty likely the guest will be Pitbull.

Both singers have recorded duets with him, he’s from Miami, and he puts on a good show.

By now, the singers have laid out the songs they’ll be performing and the electrifying performances they have in store for the millions who’ll be watching. The fact that they have 30 minutes, tops, to do it all is even more bonkers.

After 12 years of bold colors, vegan products, and cruelty-free beauty innovation, Kat Von D announced that she’s stepping down from her eponymous beauty line. The queen of vegan makeup sold her stakes in the company and the cosmetics line will be rebranding to reflect her departure from the makeup line.

Kat Von D announced that she has sold all of her remaining shares in Kat Von D Beauty to partner Kendo.

The makeup line’s existing parent company will now take ownership completely now that Von D has formally resigned from her role. In a company press release, the brand stated that while Von D pursues her artistic endeavors, she will no longer be involved with the brand “in any capacity.”

Kat Von D announced she’s parting ways with her eponymous beauty brand after 12 years to allow the brand to continue to grow.

This past year has been one of great change for me. As many of you know, I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy, launched my vegan shoe line, and am now busy prepping to release my long awaited album in the Spring, followed by an international tour! As much as I wish I could balance all of this, on top of continuing my makeup line, it has become clear to me that I just can’t do everything at the maximum capacity. It's hard to admit this, since I’ve always said “You can do everything and anything.” But I don’t think admitting one's limits is a bad thing. With that said, I’ve decided to sell my shares of the brand, turning it over to Kendo, my partners for the past 11 years. This was not an easy decision, but after careful consideration, I decided I wanted the makeup line to continue to thrive and grow, and I believe Kendo is primed to do just that. The transition for you, my loyal customers, will be seamless. In order to avoid any confusion with such a big change, Kat Von D Beauty will take a moment to rebrand itself, so you will start noticing the change from KatVonD Beauty to KvD Vegan Beauty. I'd like to thank my beloved fans+followers who supported my vision to create a brand that stood for compassion, true artistry, and challenged modern ideals of beauty — most of which I never could relate to. I was able to create a makeup line that made outsiders like me feel like we have a place in this “beauty” world, and gave myself and others the tools to express ourselves in our own unique way, whether it was embraced by the majority or not. And I just couldn’t have done any of this without you! Lastly, thank you for understanding+respecting my choice, as it was a difficult one to make, but one I am proud of regardless, and am confident that the team will continue the KvD legacy! Here’s to many, many more years of KvD Vegan Beauty!

The tattoo and makeup artist shared the news on Instagram, revealing that it wasn’t an easy decision. On top of being a new mom, launching a vegan shoe line, and preparing to release an album and tour in the spring, Von D admits she is no longer able to dedicate enough attention to the cosmetics brand.

“This past year has been one of great change for me. As many of you know, I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy, launched my vegan shoe line, and am now busy prepping to release my long-awaited album in the Spring, followed by an international tour,” she wrote in the post’s caption. “As much as I wish I could balance all of this, on top of continuing my makeup line, it has become clear to me that I just can’t do everything at the maximum capacity.”

Kat Von D dedicated more than 2 years to her vegan shoe line.

Von D worked to create her own shoe collection, making careful decisions about everything from a price point ranging from $90 to $350 to where, exactly, the pieces would be made.

“I became vegan in 2013 and, to be honest, I thought it was just a dietary thing,” she told InStyle “Then I was looking at my shoe collection and everything was either made out of leather or snakeskin, or the adhesive used was derived from horses.”

The silver lining for fans of Kat Von D’s cult-favorite products is that they’re not going anywhere.

Kat Von D Beauty’s iconic products like the cult-favorite Ink Liner and Lock-It Foundation aren’t going anywhere. Under Kendo’s complete ownership, the brand’s current product lineup will still be available, and there will be future launches. All products will still be 100 percent vegan and cruelty-free.

She continued  “…With that said, I’ve decided to sell my shares of the brand, turning it over to Kendo, my partners for the past 11 years. This was not an easy decision, but after careful consideration, I decided I wanted the makeup line to continue to thrive and grow, and I believe Kendo is primed to do just that.”

As of Jan 16. Kat Von D Beauty is slowly rebranding as KVD Beauty. The announcement of the new name was made on the brand’s Instagram

“Today, our founder Kat Von D has parted ways with us, as she leaves to pursue other artistic endeavors (vegan shoe line and music). We wish her the best of luck and thank her for 12 years of partnership,” reads the post’s caption. “We are NOW renamed and re-branded KVD Vegan Beauty – and fully owned and operated by Kendo. The same team that created our iconic and beloved products for the past 12 years (and built the empire with Kat) is ready to make history again. We still value self-expression, compassion, and empowerment.”

Von D launched her vegan cosmetic brand in 2008 with four red lipsticks.

With Von D out, KVD Vegan Beauty will continue to offer its existing product range, and will now release new innovations under Kendo.

“We are fully positioned to continue the brand’s growth and development in both product and marketing,” David Suliteanu, Kendo CEO says. “We have developed a very strong product pipeline for 2020 and beyond. The same Kendo team that made history with KVD Vegan Beauty is ready to do it again.”

Von D added that during her tenure, she felt she was able to create a line that made outsiders feel like they had a “place in the beauty world.” She also expressed confidence in Kendo for carrying the KVD legacy.
