Cypress Hill is set to make history by becoming the first Latino hip-hop group to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Only a limited number of hip-hop acts have ever be given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Pharrell, P Diddy, LL Cool J, Queen Latifah and Snoop Dogg are among those to receive the honor. It’s the latest accolade for the duo that has left an undeniable impact on hip-hop for the last 30 years.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will present Cypress Hill with the 2,660th star on the iconic sidewalk.
Cypress Hill, comprised of B Real, Sen Dog, DJ Muggs, and Eric “Bobo” Correa, became a huge staple in west coast hip-hop during the early 90’s. The group shot to fame due to their rap classic “Insane in the Membrane.” and the release of their sophomore album, “Black Sunday.” Cypress Hill recently released their ninth studio album, “Elephants on Acid” last year.
The Grammy-nominated group also made prior history by becoming the first Latino hip-hop group to have platinum and multi-platinum albums, selling over 20 million albums worldwide. Their star will be located just miles from where the group formed 30 years ago in South Gate, California.
Cypress Hill will join the likes of other Latino legends honored on the Walk of Fame, including Guillermo del Toro and Selena.
“We are proud to honor the first Latino American hip-hop recording group,” Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said in a press release. “They have been successful as a group for three decades and we know they will continue their success for many years to come.”
The induction ceremony will take place on April 18 in front of Greenleaf Restaurant located on Hollywood Blvd. George Lopez and close friend Xhibit will be among the guest speakers at the ceremony.
The group has made an impact beyond just music on the Latino community in southern California.
Cypress Hill has continually given back to their hometown of South Gate throughout their careers. Whether it be through scholarships, work with organizations like Guns for Goods, Wounded Heroes of America, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The gourp has also been huge advocates for legal marijuana. Just last year the group launched a cannabis line alongside the release of their latest studio album.
Cypress Hill has also inspired countless of other west-coast rappers through their unique sounds and production style. The honor is indicative of the social and musical impact the group has had for the last 30 years.
Kali Uchis’s soulful voice has the whole world hypnotized. The Colombian-American’s songs embody female empowerment and strong womanhood, though Uchis says that’s coincidental. Empowerment has always been a recurrent theme in her music and now she’s back at it with her new release “Solita.”
Born in the United States but largely raised in Colombia, Kali Uchis’s music speaks of a multi-cultural conversation, a mosaic of influences, colors, and sounds.
Her debut album ‘Isolation’ made a huge impact on its 2018 release, the singer then hit the road for a tour of dazzling appearances.
“Bailando aquí sola, es mejor que con el diablo.”
Incoming single ‘Solita’ is her first blast of new material in 12 months, and it’s an ode to independence, to rejecting societal pressure to embrace a relationship; “Bailando aquí sola, es mejor que con el diablo.”
“Solita” is a song about the pleasures of being alone.
Her first drop in 12 months, this new material is a song all about that classic Latino saying that goes a little like: “Mas vale sol@ que mal acompañad@.“ On the pleasures of being alone, Kali says, “I’d rather dance alone than with the devil. This song is about healing, freedom and embracing the mixed emotions that come with that. I hope my fans feel sexy when they listen to it. I’m so excited to share more…”
Uchis’s new single is a mellow, sexy, reggaeton song.
Over a reggaetón beat, Uchis’s pained vocals announce that she’d rather be alone than stay with someone who hurts her. Embellished with croons and synth echoes, the song continues to show off her omnivorous approach to the genre.
The singer’s new single is her first bilingual single.
“Solita,” her first new music since 2018 and her first bilingual single. Describing a relationship raw with “open wounds,” as long as she stays, she’s suffocating: “Rooted in your ways/You won’t ever know, you won’t ever see/Who I am today.” She switches to Spanish for the chorus, affirming that her decision to leave is the right one, even if it hurts: “Bailando aquí sola, como a mi me gusta” (“Dancing here alone, as I like”). It’s better, she says, than dancing with the devil. With each aching repetition of the word “sola,” she braces for a future where she’ll be able to rely on herself.
The sultry track was produced by Tainy, who’s worked with J Balvin and Bad Bunny.
In an interview with Apple Music, she elaborated on the song: “The vibe was sad, yet horny. There’s a little bit of sexiness in it, but it’s also nostalgic. The hook basically translates to, ‘I’d rather dance alone than with the devil.’ I think that just goes back to wanting to feel empowered about independence, rather than feel like, ‘Oh, poor me, I’m alone.’ It’s not really like that.” She added, “I wrote the song a year ago. I was coming out of a breakup from a really long relationship. I think the song still resonates with me because I definitely look at relationships really differently.”
The Colombian-American singer has hinted at a Spanish album in the near future.
“For my next album, I’m really going back to my roots, experimenting more with my music, not thinking so hard and not trying so hard — just free-flowing,” she said in an interview. The album would be predominantly in Spanish with some Spanglish, because that’s how Latinos live their everyday lives and we can’t wait to listen to the final result. “When I really want to say something that I feel I have to say in English, I will switch over because I’m not going to force it, but a lot of it will be in Spanish,” Uchis told People en Español. “Solita” is the first single off the album. “I’m at a point in my life where I don’t feel like I have to prove anything to anybody anymore. I’m growing every year.”
Kali Uchis wonders if she tried a little ‘too hard’ to prove herself in her debut album.
Reflecting on “Isolation”, Kali says she wonders if worrying about proving herself led her to overthink too much. “Looking back on it, I did tell true stories that were happening in my life on ‘Isolation,’ but I was a little too concerned about like, ‘This is my first album, I have to get the Gorillaz on it, Kevin Parker from Tame Impala, Tyler [the Creator], Bootsy [Collins].’ I felt like I had to pull everyone that I love into the project in order to prove myself as this genius.”
She’s very proud of the result, nonetheless.
“Someone coming from where I come from would have never even thought I would be able to get all those different artists on a project and be able to make it sound like one cohesive project,” Uchis told People en Español. “Project is the best word for [Isolation] — it was an experiment.”
Now, she’s happy to feel less pressure when she’s in the studio.
Who else is ready for some new music from Kali Uchis?
As you may know, on Tuesday Cardi B made an appearance at Queens Criminal Court to deal with the case of attempted assault on New York bartenders Sarah “Jade” Wattley and Rachel Wattley. While Cardi immediately made headlines for her fashion-forward outfit that consisted of a large black coat decked out in feathers and a matching wide-brimmed hat, another member of her entourage was making headlines for an entirely different reason
Of the litany of paparazzi pictures documenting Cardi entering the courthouse, Cardi’s fans clocked the visage of a particularly handsome man closely following Cardi In the background The gentleman in question was revealed to be Cardi B’s bodyguard, who goes by the name of Price. Wearing a black turtleneck, a gray blazer, and a trendy fisherman beanie, Mr. Price looked as if he just stepped out of a Calvin Klein ad.
As soon as the internet set their sights on Cardi’s bodyguard, all mention of her legal woes went out the window.
With his chiseled jawline, furrowed brow and pouty lips, it seems as if Price was born to become an internet thirst trap. His Instagram feed is chock-full of pictures of him smoldering for the camera, decked to the nines in stylish designer clothes. It’s safe to say that Price could have had a very successful career as a male model if he hadn’t pursued a career in security.
But based off of his social media activity, Price seems to be completely content with his current calling. According to his Instagram page, Price owns and operates Priceless Protection Services, a private security company that’s based out of Georgia. He frequently shares posts about how blessed he feels to have the job he does. On Cardi’s birthday, Price shared a photo of the two of them on his page, with a caption that read: “It’s an honor continuing to protect you and your family”.
Not only is Price a successful businessman, but he appears to be a devoted father as well.
Adorably enough, Price often shares photos of himself with his son, the most recent one being on Thanksgiving. He captioned the precious photo of him and his son: “He has me lost for words when I usually have so much to say”. No word yet on whether Price is single or taken (but we’re hoping for the former).
According to Price’s Instagram page, he is also a loyal employee. He appears to have a close relationship with his employer, frequently singing Cardi’s praises through effusive posts, like the most recent one congratulating Cardi for gracing the cover of Vogue. “You are 100% deserving of god‘s plan for your life,” he captioned under a photo of Cardi holding her baby, Kulture.
Considering the popularity of Cardi’s hot bodyguard, it could be possible that she hired him in order to detract attention from her frequent headline-making antics.
It should be noted that Cardi wasn’t visiting Queens Criminal Court for a lighthearted matter. The “I Like It” singer was attending a hearing related to the 2018 altercation she had with Sarah “Jade” Wattley and Rachel Wattley outside of a New York strip club.
According to sources, Cardi tried to attack the Wattley sisters in retaliation for Jade’s romantic involvement with her husband, Offset. Cardi was charged and arrested in October 2018 for her involvement in the altercation, and earlier this year she pled not guilty to two felony counts of attempted assault as well as the lesser counts such of harassment, conspiracy, and reckless endangerment. In other words, Cardi is dealing with a lot right now.
Naturally, Twitter users couldn’t get enough of the tall, dark, and handsome Mr. Price.
People were shook that Cardi could be constantly surrounded by such a snack without giving into the temptation of…indulging.
This Twitter user decided to use the buzz around Cardi’s bodyguard to shoot her shot:
🗣 Yooo @iamcardib, whats up love? Can you inform your security guard that I am in fact SINGLE.
I’m a whole chef out here, I’m degreed 🙌🏽 I like protein shakes, anime and sports! 👌🏽
