“Yeah, it’s like I already won. What’s good?”

It’s easy for many to write off Cardi B. The Bronx rapper of Trinidadian and Dominican descent seemingly came out of nowhere, with no other charting music, and rose to the top of the charts, breaking records along the way. In her interview with Jimmy Fallon, he lists off all of her accomplishments.

Since her debut single “Bodak Yellow,” she has released a barrage of dope verses, music videos, and collaborations in what seems like a matter of seconds. If you’re not paying attention it could feel like she’s been famous forever, but her very first single only just dropped in June of 2017.

Since the summer, she’s performed around the country, at the MTV Video Music Awards, on late night television, and has even been nominated for two Grammy awards. Even if you don’t like her music, you’ve got to respect that hustle and determination.

Even though she started her career on reality TV and built a huge social media following, you can see that fame still feels new to her. In the video above you can tell how new it all is, where at times, instead of using her words, she blurts out “mmm-hmms” and bird noises like a kid who doesn’t know what to do with herself. It makes us nervous and excited for her.

It almost like watching a family member. She looks like that tía who is always dressed wild, and is super loud at the party, but who you love anyway.

Cardi B had Jimmy Fallon at a loss for words with her blunt one liners and bird noises.

It was an awkward, but adorable interview. Cardi B’s honesty and youth (she’s only 25) shine through.

Earlier this week she dropped two music videos in one day. One for “La Modelo,” a collaboration with Ozuna, and her fire feature verse on G-Eazy’s “No Limit.”
