Here’s Why Chance The Rapper And Cardi B Think Trump Will Win The 2020 Election

Yes, the glass is half empty for Cardi B and Chance The Rapper who told T.I. on his podcast ExpediTIously that they think Trump will inevitably win again in 2020. The Rhythm & Flow co-hosts shared their political thoughts and they were not particularly uplifting.

Maybe the hopelessness stems from the fact that Cardi B is a staunch supporter of Bernie Sanders and is politically engaged — if you’re paying attention to the current news cycle, staying optimistic can be hard.

According to Pew Research, seven in 10 Americans, “feel worn out by the amount of news there is these days, compared with only three-in-ten who say they like the amount of news they get.”

Political apathy can lead to low voter turnout. In fact, a Facebook study found that people were more likely to vote if they saw their friends were voting. While Chance The Rapper and Cardi B are well within their right to feel pessimistic about the election, unseating Trump will only be possible if Democrats are enthusiastically voting in 2020.

Chance The Rapper thinks Trump’s re-election is inevitable.

“The reason that we keep getting Presidents that we don’t want is because we keep getting tricked into thinking we have a choice,” Chance said. “I totally believe — and y’all can quote me on this a couple years down the line — I think Trump is going to win again at the next election because he’s got the biggest base.”

Chance is wrong. We do have a choice — it’s right there on the ballot. Only 31% of eligible voters under 30 voted in the November 2018 midterm elections, the most in history — and Democrats crushed it. That means 70 percent stayed home. Young people support Democratic candidates 2-to-1 — together under 30s could fundamentally transform politics in America.

“Our swing voter is not red-to-blue,” said Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez before she won the groundbreaking election that made her the youngest congressperson in history.  “Our swing voter is the voter to the non-voter, the non-voter to the voter.”

Voters are more likely to be white, wealthier and older. They’re less likely to be poor, Latinx or Asian American. Perhaps, that’s why the current version of American politics reflects a bunch of old, rich white people? Of course, it’s not the only reason: there is gerrymandering, voter suppression, voter purges, election hacking, and the electoral college to overcome. Still, if the majority of eligible voters actually voted many of these obstacles might not matter.

However, as Voto Latino notes 11.7 million Latinxs voted in 2018 for a historic turnout, and 25 percent were first-time voters. ¡Mi Gente!

“The next President after Donald Trump will be our first-ever independent President,” Chance predicted. “And if they not independent, they’ll be from a fringe party.”

A third-party presidential candidate has never won more than 19 percent of the vote and that was Ross Perot in 1992 — he didn’t win a single electoral vote.

Cardi B believes Democrats aren’t in love with any candidate.

“I really hate to say it, but sometimes I do believe that Trump will be winning (the election),” Cardi said. “Just because due to the fact that every single time I don’t see nobody saying that they love a Democratic candidate. There’s no candidate that people are saying we love, we want them to win.”

Cardi is partially correct, there’s no Democratic candidate the party is in love with yet – because we’re in a primary. There are three frontrunners Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Joe Biden who have been consistently on top.

Cardi B endorses Bernie Sanders.

In 2016, Cardi B endorsed Bernie Sanders and appears to be feeling the Bern in 2020 too.

“He’s just really like, a person that cares. And I really want that,” she told Tip. “I want somebody that cares for not just America but everybody in America! Every person white, every person of color, Black, Hispanic, Muslim—everybody! He cares for a whole country.”

Cardi interviewed Bernie this summer about health care, immigration, and minimum wage. She told him she struggled to make ends meet no matter how many jobs she held before she was famous.

Bernie responded, “So the first thing we do is we make sure that young people in this country, Black, Latino, Native American, whoever they may be, get the kind of education and job training they need so they can go out and get good jobs. We have to invest in jobs and education.”

The Miami Herald Apologizes For Including Racist, Anti-Semitic Insert In Newspaper

@BillCorben / Twitter

Readers of the Miami Herald and the El Nuevo Herald noticed a racist and anti-Semitic insert in one of the latest editions. The column in the insert compared BLM activists to Nazis while talking down about the Jewish community.

The Miami Herald recently published a racist and anti-Semitic insert.

The offensive piece, written by Cuban exile Roberto Luque Escalona, received harsh and immediate backlash. Escalona expresses his displeasure for the Jewish community and those seeking racial justice by joining BLM with one column.

“What kind of people are these Jews” writes Escalona. He then continues to “teach” Jewish people the history of the Holocaust and claims that BLM supporters are worse than the Nazis during Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass, because the Nazis simply destroyed things and didn’t steal.

The newspaper has apologized for the insert going so far as to admit that it was not properly vetted and that “internal failures” were at play.

According to an open letter, higher ups at the Miami Herald admit to the insert not being read and vetted by the staff. The obvious overlook led to a 40-page insert of right-wing propaganda to be distributed to the readers of both the Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald. Since the publication, the Miami Herald claims to have ended their relationship with Libre, the insert with the racist and anti-Semitic content.

Those responsible at the Miami Herald admitted to not reading the insert before it was distributed.

“We are deeply sorry that inflammatory, racist and anti-Semitic commentary reached our el Nuevo Herald subscribers through LIBRE, a Spanish-language publication that paid our company to have the product printed and inserted into our print edition as a weekly supplement,” reads part of an open letter to readers. “The fact that no one in leadership, beginning with us, had previously read this advertising insert until this issue was surfaced by a reader is distressing. It is one of a series of internal failures that we are investigating in order to prevent this from ever recurring.”

Readers are outraged that the newspaper would allow such offensive things to be published and distributed.

The right-wing conspiracies pushed by Libre are part of a larger Spanish-language disinformation campaign targeting Cubans in southern Florida. The community has been inundated with disinformation ahead of the 2020 election preying on the fears and ignorance within the staunchly conservative Cuban community.

“It’s difficult to measure the effect exactly, but the polling sort of shows it and in focus groups it shows up, with people deeply questioning the Democrats, and referring to the ‘deep state’ in particular — that there’s a real conspiracy against the president from the inside,” Eduardo Gamarra, a pollster and director of the Latino Public Opinion Forum at Florida International University, told Politico. “There’s a strain in our political culture that’s accustomed to conspiracy theories, a culture that’s accustomed to coup d’etats.”

The disinformation is targeting Cubans because of the growing Latino communities who tend to vote Democratic.

According to Politico, the campaign is Cuban specific. The Puerto Rican, Nicaraguan, Colombian, Venezuelan, and Dominican communities in Florida, which continue to grow, typically vote Democratic. These shifting demographics have left Republicans doing anything it takes to keep a strong hold of the Cuban community, even by means of racism, anti-Semitism, and disinformation.

Cardi B Is, Once Again, Fed Up With Trolls Trying to Body Shame Her With Edited Photos

Cardi B, once again, took to Instagram to combat the neverending stream of trolls who are trying to tear her down.

Earlier this month, some unflattering photos of Cardi made the rounds on the internet, prompting people to publicly bully her for her looks. The unflattering photos showed her makeup-free, her hoodie up, appearing to be shopping at her local Target.

Cardi was hone too pleased with the photos. In a now-deleted Instagram post, she shared a side-by-side photos of the viral picture next to the original one. The viral picture was noticeably photo-shopped to make her face look less attractive and her behind look more exaggerated.

In a lengthy Instagram caption, Cardi condemned the internet bullies, calling out people for sharing photoshopped pictures on their platforms for clicks and likes.

“It’s the fact that people try to photoshop my face and body to post on their platform so people can bash me and make me feel down on my appearance on purpose….and the fact this a paparazzi picture from months ago,” she wrote.

She also added a note in her comments calling out the hypocriy of some of the female bullies who otherwise claim to be all about “supporting women” and “female empowerment”.

“And the sad sh– is,” she said. “That the people that be doing these rumors and be trying to make people bash me about my looks are WOMEN!”

Ironically enough, the shopping session that Cardi was papped at was allegedly dedicated to her buying $5,000 worth of gifts for children in need in the upcoming holiday season. The photos were from December 2019.

This isn’t the first time Cardi has publicly clapped back at body-shamers and online haters. In June, she was also the target of internet harassers who were criticizing her for gaining weight during quarantine.

At the time, Cardi posted a response video to Instagram joking that she “gained a little weight” but had “lipo money”, so the haters didn’t bother her. And in the past, it seems that haters never have bothered her.

Cardi has always been transparent about her willingness to go under the knife in order to alter her appearance.

But she’s always expressed her frustration at the catch-22 that comes with plastic surgery. “I feel like women constantly body shame me. They wanna be like: your body’s mad fake. You got fake boobs, you got a fake ass,” she said in a 2017 interview with HOT 97.

“And it’s just like: if you love your body so much, then why are you mad that I have a fake body? Maybe I didn’t really like my body. Does it bother you that I didn’t like my prior body and I wanted to get it fixed? People is never happy.”

But as always, Cardi considers success the best form of revenge. She promised that the haters are going to be especially mad in the next months, seeing as she has a project in the works that will “make a sick soul nauseous”.

If her new project comes anything close to the success she’s had recently, we’re 100% here for it.
