Turns Out A Lot Of The ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Cast Can Speak Fluent Spanish And We Are Impressed

FilmArtsy / YouTube

With “Avengers: Endgame” topping box office charts, you might want to see the main cast try their hand at Spanish before you hit the theaters. Thanks to every good Latin reporter, we have clips of Tom Holland to Zoe Saldana speaking our tongue the best ways they know how.

Be warned. In this interview compilation provided by YouTube channel FilmArtsy, there is little to no context. Just Spanish. Disfrute.

Zoe Saldana is the picture (and sound) of beauty como siempre.

FilmArtsy / YouTube

Saldana starts off by saying, en Español, that “The last twenty years in U.S. have been very difficult, but also in Cuba…” She tells us how she loves playing such a decent, rich character who is skilled in her business.

Chris Hemsworth (a.k.a. Thor) gives us all the Spanish he knows. It’s not much and is totally random.

FilmArtsy / YouTube

He starts out by saying, “Buena suerte! Which means ‘good luck’ for all you English speakers out there, which is basically me because I’m not really that versed in Spanish. Or am I? Adios, gracias! Un cafe con leche por favor. Si. Buenas noches.”

Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier) and Anthony Mackie (The Falcon) play a similar game.

FilmArtsy / YouTube

“Corazon. Ay dios mio,” seems to be their response to the question of if they know Spanish. When the Latina reporter asks if that’s all the Spanish they know, they start shouting out random words. “Mas o menos. Fuego. Dulce. La película! Chocolate. Papi Chulo.”

Latino Michael Peña is known from “Ant-Man” and gives us a puro Spanglish interview.

FilmArtsy / YouTube

He’s fluent in Spanish but some words escape him like “prep school” and “priests.” Honestly, this is the most authentic way we have ever heard a Latino speak Spanish as an American.

Tom Holland (Spiderman) trying to guess Spanish words is an ego-booster we all need.

FilmArtsy / YouTube

This video has already gone viral once before, but his answer is too good not to share: “Oooh. Es–cute—Ella. Es-school-ah. Can I come back to that one? I think I do know what that is.”

Apparently, Jeremy Renner used to teach Spanish in high school.

FilmArtsy / YouTube

He tells the reporter that he understands what she’s saying but that he’s lost the motor skills he once had as a Spanish teacher. He then goes into teacher mode saying, “Escucha. Calmate. Chiquitica.”

Vin Diesel (Groot) is really into Nicky Jam.

FilmArtsy / YouTube

He asks the host, “Tu sabes Nicky Jam?” Immediately he gets up and starts dancing to Nicky Jam but is confused and starts calling out for the Puerto Rican singer.

“Nicky! Y que? Nicky Jam, y que? Donde está?” When the host says que “no está aquí,” Diesel laments, “Y por que?!”

The most shocking level of fluency was Gwyneth Paltrow.

FilmArtsy / YouTube

When asked what her favorite place is, she tells the reporter that she loved Liverpool when she was working there. But then she went to London and loved taking photos in front of Big Ben and had a lot of fun.

Baby Robert Downing Jr. was seen hosting a game show in Spanish?

FilmArtsy / YouTube

There is little to no context here and he did say “dee” instead of “de” so maybe this was back when they were hiring white people for Latin roles?

Tom Hiddleston takes on a classic Spanish tongue twister.

FilmArtsy / YouTube

Say “¿Cómo quieres que te quiera si él que quiero que me quiera no me quiere como quiero que me quiera?” three times fast. He didn’t do so bad!

Chris Pratt is still Chris Pratt in Spanish.

FilmArtsy / YouTube

“Muy buenas directes de español. *Knock Knock Knock* Hola a mi representa mechanical shop. Especial por treinta personas. Cuatro cambio de siete por veinte dólares. Bien si?”

I’m sorry, que que?

Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie singing Feliz Navidad seems like a good time.

FilmArtsy / YouTube

Anthony Mackie gives an enviously good Mexican trill at the end. Clearly, he is more connected to the culture than people might know.

A Mexican Graphic Designer Gave The Marvel Universe And Unexpected And Incredible Lotería Upgrade

In this edition of ‘take all my money,’ Luis Nuñez, 24, a graphic designer based in Mazatlán, Sinaloa Mexico has given us the gift of recreating Lotería to incorporate the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe. Moviegoers who fell in love with Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, and Groot get to see the characters in a whole light on Nuñez’s Instagram account (@luis.nunez07).

What started off with one image has ballooned to 18—and Nuñez has no plans to stop until the set is complete with all 54 titles. So far he’s finished 32 illustrations which he plans to unveil on his Instagram account in the weeks to come.

Which begs the question, where’s the link to his Etsy shop so we can buy our own set once it’s complete?

See the cards for yourself below. And if you haven’t seen the movie yet (what kind of fan are you?) prepare for spoilers and inside jokes ahead:

Nuñez kicked off his project with Ironman as el valiente.

Honestly, this is a solid choice here. He is one of the greatest characters in the Marvel universe. What a solid and engaging art project focused on one of the greatest superhero franchises in the world.

Don’t sleep on the details. A second image in the post includes a tighter focus on Tony’s own infinity gauntlet.

Iron Man kicked off the series and if you’ve watched the last installment, you know how the story ends. Tony Stark as el valiente is a fitting tribute.

The hand that undid the Avengers.

The film starts where Thanos left off—in the aftermath of the devastating snap. If you know, you know. And if you don’t know, then you know because everyone is still talking about the movie.

The artist even gave us the answer to Thanos’s devastating hand.

But always a schemer, Iron Man constructs his own infinity gauntlet and outmaneuvers the psychopath.

Thor gets called out on his drinking problem.

Credit: luis.nunez07 / Instagram

The god of lightning had a rough go at the start of the film. He buried his pain with alcohol and had the beer belly to prove it.

Duh, of course Peter Parker is la araña.

Credit: luis.nunez07 / Instagram

Nuñez depicts Spider-Man with his enhanced super suit. He says each image takes him 30-60 minutes to complete.

And who could forget the heart-wrenching moment when Parker begins to crumble and turn to dust?

Credit: luis.nunez07 / Instagram

Clearly, Nuñez doesn’t want you to and provided this twofer when creating la araña.

Only the strongest Avenger can carry the world.

Credit: luis.nunez07 / Instagram

Nuñez is clearly team Hulk when it comes to the argument of who the strongest Avenger is. Thor might have something to say about this.

All the feels with this throwback to Tony’s heart.

Credit: luis.nunez07 / Instagram

He knew this would fit so perfectly within the context of Lotería.

Who better to represent ‘the soldier’ than Captain America.

Credit: luis.nunez07 / Instagram

The second movie in the Captain America canon is called “Winter Soldier.”

Of course, Thanos is the devil.

Credit: luis.nunez07 / Instagram

There’s no one better suited to embody el diablo than the man responsible for killing his daughter and wiping out half of Earth’s population.

When you’re as well-groomed and presentable as Doctor Strange (on teetering on being pretentious) El Catrin is the only card that makes sense.

Credit: luis.nunez07 / Instagram

It’s funny to see how well the Marvel characters fit into la Lotería. Doctor Strange begins with a shot of his fancy clothes and accessories. He never loses his flair for appearances as evident by his high-neck flowing cape.

Black Widow is the obvious choice for the lady card.

Credit: luis.nunez07 / Instagram

The franchise needed more women in it. No secret there.

Guardians of the Galaxy was defined by its soundtrack. Peter Quill wearing his Walkman makes the perfect musico.

Credit: luis.nunez07 / Instagram

Music was Peter Quill. Who could forget the ’60s and the ’70s soundtrack that included Hooked on a Feeling and all his out of tune singing?

Teenage Groot still has some years to go before growing into a tree.

Credit: luis.nunez07 / Instagram

Adult Groot sacrificed himself for the Guardians. When we see him again, he’s a mere sapling but well on his way to growing into a sturdy arbol.

Clint Barton, complete with his f*ckboi haircut, is El Apache.

Credit: luis.nunez07 / Instagram

Hawkeye might not be Native American, but with a bow and arrow in hand, he has an eerie resemblance to the original image of el apache.

El Gorrito gets a massive metal make-over.

Credit: luis.nunez07 / Instagram

No frill bonnet to be seen here. El Gorrito has redesigned to include Thor’s comic book version of his helmet, which makes a brief cameo during Ragnarok.

Groot’s home gets a shout-out.

Credit: luis.nunez07 / Instagram

Baby Groot was a fan favorite. It’s only right he make an appearance in the flower pot card.

Why Red Skull was the keeper of the Soul Stone still feels like a mystery but at least it makes sense here.

Credit: luis.nunez07 / Instagram

The skull with crossbones has been swapped out for the Hydra symbol with Red Skull sitting at its center.

Falcon may fit the pajaro card perfectly at the start of Endgame…

Credit: luis.nunez07 / Instagram

…But by the end of it, he’s received a major upgrade. We might be looking at the new face of the Captain America canon here folks.

Only royalty wears a crown…

Credit: luis.nunez07 / Instagram

…So it’s appropriate for King T’Challa’s Black Panther to take la corona.

Keep an eye Nuñez’s Instagram account (@luis.nunez07) for the remaining 36 illustrations.

This Clip Of Gamora Speaking Spanish On The Set Of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Would Have Made For A Better Twist

@zoesaldana / Instagram

“Avengers: Endgame” actress and Latina powerhouse Zoe Saldana posted a video on her Instagram page of herself decked-out in full costume for her MCU character, Gamora. In the video, Saldana sips on an unknown beverage before launching into a little ditty: “Aquí con mi matecito, en el set de Avengers.” She then stops and looks at the camera with feigned surprise and says, “Gamora speaks Spanish? No lo sabía”.

She captioned the video: “What! Espanol…GAMORA?!?”

The video quickly garnered a lot of attention, racking up almost 6 million views and over 33,000 comments. The comment section filled up with Latino fans expressing their joy at seeing one of their favorite Marvel characters speaking their language. Even fellow “Guardians of the Galaxy” actor, Vin Diesel, took to the comments to express his approval, commenting “No lo sabia!?! Hahaha. Love”.

It’s not often that the Latinx community sees a celebrity in one of the most massive and successful franchises in history repping their Latinx identity with such pride.

It’s also noteworthy that Saldana was mentioned that she was drinking matecito or mate in her Insta post, a caffeine-rich drink that is popular in South America, especially in Argentina. So, in general, Saldana is giving off all the Latinx vibes in this social media post.

Saldana has been candid before about how she gravitates towards sci-fi roles because they put less emphasis on the color of her skin–which she believes is secondary to who she is as a person.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bw0xMvhhBa9/

“If I only went after Latina roles or roles of women of color then I’m not really exercising my desire to be an artist full-heartedly and whole-heartedly,” she told A Plus online. “The purpose of being an actor is to be a chameleon where you get to play different things. When the roles provided for me on Earth are limited, then space felt like the right place to go.”

As for Latinx Twitter, they couldn’t get enough of Gamora speaking Spanish.

Like we said, the rarity of an occasion like this is cause for celebration.

This super-fan felt the need to shout the news from the rooftops.

We can’t blame him for showing his excitement.

This Latina felt the effect of Saldana’s charisma in full-swing.

So many Latinas were discussing with their girlfriends how Saldana has made them have a girl crush that they didn’t even know they were capable of.

This girl was super excited that her favorite drink was finally getting the attention it deserved.

In South America, the cult of mate is real.

And this Latina gave Saldana a nickname that we’ll be using from this point forward:

Facts.

We’re so happy that Zoe Saldana, as Latina in Hollywood, has experienced so much success in both her “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Avengers” franchises! We can’t wait to see what’s next for her–we know she’ll slay no matter what.
