Here’s How Aubrey Plaza Went From A Prankster In High School To A Major Actress In Hollywood

plazadeaubrey / Instagram

We all know one thing about Aubrey Plaza: she’s funny and we want to see more of her. Made famous by NBC’s Parks and Recreation, she’s gone on to produce and star in her own big screen films, continues to prank anyone, and has even come out as bisexual in the last couple years.

You’ll be shocked to learn what health conditions and obstacles she’s overcome, all while cackling. Prepare yourself, because you’re about to love Aubrey Plaza even more than you already do.

She was named after a song by the band Bread.

It’s called “Aubrey” and this is how the song starts out:

“And Aubrey was her name,
A not so very ordinary girl or name
But who’s to blame?”

Talk about manifest destiny, right?

She’s a 34-year old Cancer.

Born on June 26, 1984, Cancer’s are known for being extremely sensible, stable and moody. She’s like the Dark Lord of Cancers.

She’s half Puerto Rican and half Irish.

Her father, David Plaza, brings the Puerto Rican side of her. He’s a financial advisor and her mother is an attorney. The apple falls far from the pear tree I guess.

She felt out of place in her hometown of Wilmington, Delaware.

She told Latina, “I was like the only diverse kid in my high school, and I’m half-Puerto Rican. But yeah, I have a huge family and tons of cousins in Puerto Rico.”

Sometimes, she even feels out of place in her own Latinidad…

She went on to tell Latina, “I wish my grandfather had taught my Dad Spanish when he was younger so he could’ve taught me when I was younger, and sometimes he does, too. It’s a shame.”

So relatable, Aubrey. So many of our parents had the drive to assimilate us for success, but we’re creating a new culture, vale?

Aubrey used to work in a video store.

Apparently, her and Jimmy Fallon had that in common in their high school years. Yeah, that sounds super awkward, RIP Blockbuster.

She was *the* class clown in high school…and student council president.

One day, she followed her principal home after school and used a giant box with a bow on it as her mask. Every time he turned around, she’d just duck under the box. Like a cardboard box was actually following him. 😂

She even organized a Mustache Day.

With great power comes great pranks, as they say. Of course, she also used her power to orchestrate a school-wide mock sword fight. Are you not yet in love?

She went to an all-girls Catholic school.

CREDIT: @plazadeaubrey / Instagram

Yup. That was the setting for all her pranks. She told Delaware Today in 2012, “I was always interested in rocking the boat and making people laugh and doing weird things. I think a Catholic all-girls school is a good setting for that.”

She went to NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

That place is a breeding ground for all our favorite stars, including Camila Mendes, Gina Rodriguez, Alexis Bledel y más. She always knew she wouldn’t follow in her parents’ footsteps.

She had a stroke when she was 22 years old.

Ten years later amidst all her newfound fame, she told The Guardian, “I had expressive aphasia, where I could understand what’s happening, but I couldn’t talk or communicate. Like, you could say something and I would know what you meant but I couldn’t express it or even write it. That was the weirdest part. When they gave me a piece of paper and a pen I just kept writing lines instead of words. But at least I could walk. When it first happened to me I was paralyzed, but I was so young that my brain healed itself really fast. I was really lucky in that way.”

She stole the NBC page uniform after being quasi-fired.

CREDIT: @Complex / Twitter

She told Elle Magazine, “I stole this NBC page uniform after I was encouraged to leave the Page Program. I wasn’t outright fired, but it was suggested that I leave, so I never gave it back. I wasn’t used to working in a corporate environment like NBC where there are HR rules. It’s fuzzy to me exactly what happened, but I think I made a joke about Jesus being crucified or I wrote it on a wall, and I got in trouble. Three or four months after I started, they were like, ‘Maybe this isn’t right for you,’ and I was like, ‘Maybe it isn’t.'”

She plays a cameo of herself in 30 Rock.

She told Elle, “After working as a page, I got a gig as a low-level intern within the casting department at NBC in the 30 Rock building. During the first season of 30 Rock, they needed a page character in the background for one of the shots. I said, “I can do it. I’ll put on my uniform and pretend to give the spiel I would actually give.” I did it. My stolen uniform and I made it on to the first season of 30 Rock.”

Parks and Recreation cast Aubrey Plaza without even having a role for her.

Caption: “TIL the casting director for “Parks and Recreation” called Michael Schur and said, “I just met the weirdest girl I’ve ever met in my life.” He met with her and she made him feel very uncomfortable for about an hour. Aubrey Plaza was cast as April.”

She’s a witch.

CREDIT: @AO_THELEGEND / Twitter

Ok, well, she’s witchy. She told Big World Tale, “I love Halloween so much, but I have a very strict policy that I’ve never worn a sexy Halloween costume because I believe that you should be scary on Halloween. I basically just do some kind of version of a Nautical Sea Witch. I throw a fishing net on myself, and I have a wig and some makeup. I just like dressing up like a witch, like a Sea Hag kind of character.”

She gifted vials of blood and hair to the Parks and Rec cast.

Right before the whole show was about to wrap, Plaza was feeling sentimental and gave every single person a vial filled with blood, toenails, and hair. Okay, so the blood was actually just old jelly in her fridge but nobody has confirmed where the hair and toenails came from. 👹

Her and Nick Offerman share the same birthday.

CREDIT: @evilhag / Twitter

While Nick Offerman shares posts of him and his wife with captions like, “All my birthday dreams coming true,” Aubrey is out here posting this. Last year, she captioned this one: “haggy birthday to me and my dark lord @nickofferman who i shall obey until the murky waters swallow me once and for all.” lol, k.

She’s produced and starred in two of her own movies, including The Little Hours.

CREDIT: @plazadeaubrey / Instagram

The movie is written and directed by her longtime boyfriend Jeff Baena, and was initially released at the 2017 Sundance festival. The movie is about several mentally unstable nuns in the countryside, who hang out with a coven of witches, have some solid lesbian sex, and get a little high.

Aubrey Plaza is giving us recovering Catholics what we need.

Her first kiss tasted like metal.

She tells Big World Tale, “I was in seventh grade. I’m not going to say his name, but I went to an all-girls school, and there was a boy at the brother school who was placed in a juvenile correction facility for taping a screwdriver to his foot and kicking people with it. I believe he was my first kiss, and I remember that it tasted like metal.”

She came out as bisexual in 2016.

CREDIT: @METlCHE / Twitter

In an interview with The Advocate, who acknowledged her popularity with the LGBTQ community, she casually confirmed her sexuality.

“Oh, yeah. I don’t mind. I know I have an androgynous thing going on and there’s something masculine about my energy. Girls are into me – that’s no secret. Hey, I’m into them too. I fall in love with girls and guys. I can’t help it,” she said.

Today, she’s worth about $3 million, wepa.

From playing the voice of Grumpy Cat in Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever, to running her own productions, and starring alongside Anna Kendrick in feature films, we’d say Aubrey Plaza is doing well for herself. Just keep pranking everyone, okay? We worship you, dark hag.

Oscar Nunez From ‘The Office’ Is Using His Name To Help The World One Cause At A Time

NBC / The Office

There’s no question that Oscar Martinez, played by Oscar Nunez, is the only character in NBC’s hit show The Office that you’d actually want to be friends with. He played an accountant who wanted to be acknowledged as the intellect of the office but was instead reduced to a gay Mexican token by his boss Michael Scott. While his character was fictional, in a way, it gave insight to so many of us dealing in work environments with ignorant people.

The man behind the character actually has next to nothing in common with the persona he plays. Except for the first name. We think his story will give you life, támbien.

Oscar Nunez is Cuban, not Mexican.

CREDIT: @rjonfischer / Twitter

He was born in Colón, Cuba on November 18, 1958. That’s right. He’s a Scorpio, or can’t you tell?

His parents were classmates wi Fidel Castro.

CREDIT: @gringatears / Twitter

They all went to the University of Havana together. During the rise of Castro’s regime, their family fled to Venezuela first, and then to the United States.

First, they moved to Boston when he was 2 years old, and then landed in Union City, New Jersey.

As a first generation Cuban-American, habla español y ingles. All those bits with Oscar yelling at the camera about what a pendejo Michael is was just pure off the cuff rage at a fictional character.

Nunez went to fashion school.

CREDIT: @samzmith / Twitter

He started out at the Fashion Institute of Technology and then went to Parsons School of Design for writing. It seems like he first wanted to make his break as a writer.

He’s a certified dental technician.

His father was a lawyer and his mother a dentist. After he graduated from Parsons, he went to the Magna Institute of Dental Technology to become a dental tech. This guy is mega educated.

He started up his comedy career in New York and joined The Groundlings.

While there, he wrote and starred in a production called “Smooth Down There.” Now, he goes back as a famous comedy celebrity alum for special performances.

Nunez was a finalist in the ABC Latino Writers Project.

I mean, makes sense right? He went to school for writing. I think I speak for all of us in saying that we want to see your written work, Oscar.

He won’t play roles that diminish Latinos.

CREDIT: Netflix

While he’s 100 percent condescended to in The Office and treated differently because of his Latinidad, his character has all the integrity around his culture. The whole time Oscar knows he’s better than Michael and the bigots around him and the audience knows it.

He worked in the industry for years before making it on The Office.

Some of his credits include Curb Your Enthusiasm, Reno 911!, 24 and Malcolm in the Middle. He went on to become the creator and producer of Halfway Home which explains his almost season-long break in The Office Season 3.

He’s not gay.

When Oscar initially signed onto the show, he assumed his character’s sexuality would be straight. It wasn’t until later on in the show that the writers wrote in this plot twist, which helped account for his absence when Michael Scott sexually harasses him and he gets a company paid vacation.

He has a wife and kid.

He married his longtime girlfriend Ursula Whittaker, who also happens to be an actress. The two had their first child, August Luce Nunez on October 4, 2012, and they all live together in Los Angeles.

You might remember him as the stripper in The Proposal.

CREDIT: @aislinn_heather / Twitter

That’s right. He gyrated on Sandra Bullock. In the 2009 film, he also played the caterer, soda jerk and clergyman who ended up marrying Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. He’s multitalented in life and on screen.

Nunez used his fame to call an end to cosmetic testing on animals.

He teamed up with Cruelty Free International to call on the U.S. to keep up with the European Union to end cosmetic testing on animals.

He’s also used his celebrity platform to show what a bad chef he is.

Here’s the plot twist: he signed onto Worst Cooks in America: Celebrity Edition for a chance to win $25,000 for a charity of his choice. So, still selfless and pure.

He played Ricky Ricardo in I Love Lucy: A Funny Thing Happened On The Way to the Sitcom

CREDIT: @cendella / Twitter

The series is a radio play that tells the story of how the power couple had to navigate the cultural tensions and obstacles to allowing a Latino with an accent on television. Think of it as a podcast reenactment of the true story behind the infamous show, I Love Lucy.

He is State Farm’s latest rep.

CREDIT: @joebush_joebush / Twitter

He’s the agent “that gets you,” which means he’ll play rock, paper, scissors with basketball star Chris Paul all night, and will serve the perfect lay up. Yes, please, you actually rep me, Oscar!

He participated in a Kickstarter campaign to bring back the show The Aquabats! Super Show!

CREDIT: @OscarNunezLA / Twitter

When you’re passionate about comedy, you dress up like this and participate in a punk rock musical comedy show on The Hub Network. It was canceled in 2014, and the cast has to start their own Kickstarter and telethon to raise money for its reboot.

It worked.

He rocked the boat as a judge on the 2010 Miss USA pageant, asking about Arizona’s immigration laws.

CREDIT: @OscarNunezLA / Twitter

Apparently, the crowd started booing before he finished asking the question about whether laws like SB1070, which allow state law enforcement to check the federal immigration status of individuals, should exist. Miss Oklahoma said she believes the state should have a right to create the laws, and the contestant got second place. Boo-yah.

The reason his parents fled Cuba was because of their Catholic faith.

CREDIT: @massnerder_ / Twitter

Nunez’s parents didn’t want to live in an atheist country and willingly fled for that reason. He grew up super Catholic and came to the U.S. for its freedom of religion.

If you want more Nunez rn, you can tune into People of Earth.

CREDIT: @OscarNunezLA / Twitter

He’s in ten episodes and plays Father Doug. Yup, he plays a priest. His parents would be proud.
