Here’s How Aubrey Plaza Went From A Prankster In High School To A Major Actress In Hollywood

We all know one thing about Aubrey Plaza: she’s funny and we want to see more of her. Made famous by NBC’s Parks and Recreation, she’s gone on to produce and star in her own big screen films, continues to prank anyone, and has even come out as bisexual in the last couple years.

You’ll be shocked to learn what health conditions and obstacles she’s overcome, all while cackling. Prepare yourself, because you’re about to love Aubrey Plaza even more than you already do.

She was named after a song by the band Bread.

It’s called “Aubrey” and this is how the song starts out:

“And Aubrey was her name,
A not so very ordinary girl or name
But who’s to blame?”

Talk about manifest destiny, right?

She’s a 34-year old Cancer.

Born on June 26, 1984, Cancer’s are known for being extremely sensible, stable and moody. She’s like the Dark Lord of Cancers.

She’s half Puerto Rican and half Irish.

Her father, David Plaza, brings the Puerto Rican side of her. He’s a financial advisor and her mother is an attorney. The apple falls far from the pear tree I guess.

She felt out of place in her hometown of Wilmington, Delaware.

She told Latina, “I was like the only diverse kid in my high school, and I’m half-Puerto Rican. But yeah, I have a huge family and tons of cousins in Puerto Rico.”

Sometimes, she even feels out of place in her own Latinidad…

She went on to tell Latina, “I wish my grandfather had taught my Dad Spanish when he was younger so he could’ve taught me when I was younger, and sometimes he does, too. It’s a shame.”

So relatable, Aubrey. So many of our parents had the drive to assimilate us for success, but we’re creating a new culture, vale?

Aubrey used to work in a video store.

Apparently, her and Jimmy Fallon had that in common in their high school years. Yeah, that sounds super awkward, RIP Blockbuster.

She was *the* class clown in high school…and student council president.

One day, she followed her principal home after school and used a giant box with a bow on it as her mask. Every time he turned around, she’d just duck under the box. Like a cardboard box was actually following him. 😂

She even organized a Mustache Day.

With great power comes great pranks, as they say. Of course, she also used her power to orchestrate a school-wide mock sword fight. Are you not yet in love?

She went to an all-girls Catholic school.

Yup. That was the setting for all her pranks. She told Delaware Today in 2012, “I was always interested in rocking the boat and making people laugh and doing weird things. I think a Catholic all-girls school is a good setting for that.”

She went to NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

That place is a breeding ground for all our favorite stars, including Camila Mendes, Gina Rodriguez, Alexis Bledel y más. She always knew she wouldn’t follow in her parents’ footsteps.

She had a stroke when she was 22 years old.

Ten years later amidst all her newfound fame, she told The Guardian, “I had expressive aphasia, where I could understand what’s happening, but I couldn’t talk or communicate. Like, you could say something and I would know what you meant but I couldn’t express it or even write it. That was the weirdest part. When they gave me a piece of paper and a pen I just kept writing lines instead of words. But at least I could walk. When it first happened to me I was paralyzed, but I was so young that my brain healed itself really fast. I was really lucky in that way.”

She stole the NBC page uniform after being quasi-fired.

She told Elle Magazine, “I stole this NBC page uniform after I was encouraged to leave the Page Program. I wasn’t outright fired, but it was suggested that I leave, so I never gave it back. I wasn’t used to working in a corporate environment like NBC where there are HR rules. It’s fuzzy to me exactly what happened, but I think I made a joke about Jesus being crucified or I wrote it on a wall, and I got in trouble. Three or four months after I started, they were like, ‘Maybe this isn’t right for you,’ and I was like, ‘Maybe it isn’t.'”

She told Elle, “After working as a page, I got a gig as a low-level intern within the casting department at NBC in the 30 Rock building. During the first season of 30 Rock, they needed a page character in the background for one of the shots. I said, “I can do it. I’ll put on my uniform and pretend to give the spiel I would actually give.” I did it. My stolen uniform and I made it on to the first season of 30 Rock.”

Parks and Recreation cast Aubrey Plaza without even having a role for her.

Caption: “TIL the casting director for “Parks and Recreation” called Michael Schur and said, “I just met the weirdest girl I’ve ever met in my life.” He met with her and she made him feel very uncomfortable for about an hour. Aubrey Plaza was cast as April.”

She’s a witch.

CREDIT: @AO_THELEGEND / Twitter

Ok, well, she’s witchy. She told Big World Tale, “I love Halloween so much, but I have a very strict policy that I’ve never worn a sexy Halloween costume because I believe that you should be scary on Halloween. I basically just do some kind of version of a Nautical Sea Witch. I throw a fishing net on myself, and I have a wig and some makeup. I just like dressing up like a witch, like a Sea Hag kind of character.”

She gifted vials of blood and hair to the Parks and Rec cast.

Right before the whole show was about to wrap, Plaza was feeling sentimental and gave every single person a vial filled with blood, toenails, and hair. Okay, so the blood was actually just old jelly in her fridge but nobody has confirmed where the hair and toenails came from. 👹

Her and Nick Offerman share the same birthday.

CREDIT: @evilhag / Twitter

While Nick Offerman shares posts of him and his wife with captions like, “All my birthday dreams coming true,” Aubrey is out here posting this. Last year, she captioned this one: “haggy birthday to me and my dark lord @nickofferman who i shall obey until the murky waters swallow me once and for all.” lol, k.

She’s produced and starred in two of her own movies, including The Little Hours.

CREDIT: @plazadeaubrey / Instagram

The movie is written and directed by her longtime boyfriend Jeff Baena, and was initially released at the 2017 Sundance festival. The movie is about several mentally unstable nuns in the countryside, who hang out with a coven of witches, have some solid lesbian sex, and get a little high.

Aubrey Plaza is giving us recovering Catholics what we need.

Her first kiss tasted like metal.

She tells Big World Tale, “I was in seventh grade. I’m not going to say his name, but I went to an all-girls school, and there was a boy at the brother school who was placed in a juvenile correction facility for taping a screwdriver to his foot and kicking people with it. I believe he was my first kiss, and I remember that it tasted like metal.”

She came out as bisexual in 2016.

CREDIT: @METlCHE / Twitter

In an interview with The Advocate, who acknowledged her popularity with the LGBTQ community, she casually confirmed her sexuality.

“Oh, yeah. I don’t mind. I know I have an androgynous thing going on and there’s something masculine about my energy. Girls are into me – that’s no secret. Hey, I’m into them too. I fall in love with girls and guys. I can’t help it,” she said.

Today, she’s worth about $3 million, wepa.

From playing the voice of Grumpy Cat in Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever, to running her own productions, and starring alongside Anna Kendrick in feature films, we’d say Aubrey Plaza is doing well for herself. Just keep pranking everyone, okay? We worship you, dark hag.

People Really Do Some Really Sneaky Stuff For Food When It Comes To Going To The Movies

We love going to the movies. Whether going out with girlfriends or enjoying a classic date night, an evening at the theater is a winner. However, what we don’t like about the theater is the pricey concession prices. A night at the movies can easily break the bank if you give in to the expensive options at the snack bar which is why we don’t feel the slightest bit guilty about sneaking in the occasional soda can or bag of candy every once in a while.

However, we were surprised to find that when it comes to sneaking things into the theater the Internet really does do the most.

Instagram / @fiercebymitu

For example, this couple used a baby car seat in order to sneak snacks into their local theater. Talk about ingenious! We found even more impressive movie sneaks while looking around on Twitter and Instagram and we just had to share them with our readers. Here are some of the most outlandish things that people have admitted to smuggling into the movies.

1. A snack more fit for a college dorm.

Instagram / @maruchan_inc

“A bowl of cooked 2 minute noodles.” wellibmt17

2. A winning combination.

Instagram / @julloa84

“Savages! I’ve had Wendy’s, wine and more 😬” @liz_laprieta

3. Mini refreshment.

“😂😂 10lbs of airplane bottles” — @lagoss_

4. How did she even get this in?

Twitter / @illimattic408

Sneaking a watermelon into the theater would have taken a really big bag in order to go unnoticed. It’s more impressive because this melon isn’t even sliced into pieces.

5. Pan = the perfect snack.

Twitter / @shitcoinmining

This isn’t just any bread, it’s the longest bread you can find. This Twitter user successfully slipped a baguette into the theater unnoticed and we’ve go to wonder where he hid it. Was it hidden up his sleeve? Down his pant leg? We want to know.

6. Just what the fanny pack was meant for.

Twitter / @fremlo_

We have questions. Was it cold pasta or warm? Are we talking spaghetti or more of a filled pasta? What’s the sauce situation like? Either way, this is a creative smuggle.

7. A burrito baby was born.

Twitter / @mfrancook

Congrats, it’s a burrito! Sure, we’ve sneaked things into our bags before, but we’ve never gone full preggo belly just to smuggle in our snacks. This takes some real commitment.

8. Another baby bump sneak.

Twitter / @jordynbink

If there’s one food worth getting caught with, it’s definitely tacos. This Twitter user implemented the old baby bump trick in order to get her Taco Bell into the theater. It even comes with a side of tortilla chips.

9. A movie goer’s best friend.

Twitter / @xovaleriax0

It isn’t just food that people take into movie theaters. Man’s best friend has also been known to stow away and enjoy a film or two. This Twitter user was able to sneak her adorable Pomeranian into the movies. If we were in the same theater, we’d be too distracted by this puppy’s cuteness to enjoy the movie being played.

10. We see your dog and raise you a cat.

Twitter / @eric_young5

When we think about it, a dog isn’t such an out-there thing to see at the movies. A cat, though, is much more surprising. Cats often don’t like to do what they’re told but this cat is different. Mister Lewis was able to make it through an entire film.

11. What’s impressive here is the number of nuggets that were snuck in.

Twitter / @StrengthofFates

We can’t have just one nugget and, apparently, neither can this Twitter user. Check out how many she was able to smuggle in and we dare you not to be impressed.

12. A snack perfect for a celebration.

Twitter / @rachharbin

We’d be afraid that this treat would melt on the way into the theater. Luckily for this Twitter user, the ice cream cake made it there in one piece. We hope they decided to skip the candles for this cake.

13. A homemade treat.

Twitter / @atterbom_

Store-bought cupcakes are one thing, but have you ever brought your own homemade cupcakes to frost in theater? This Twitter user did. Buying candy may be easier but it’s much less memorable.

14. Spaghetti O-M-G.

Twitter / @_bushybrows

The kids in us really appreciate this snack. The adults that we’ve become, however, are kind of grossed out at the thought of eating uncooked Spaghetti-O’s.

15. The most important meal of the day.

Twitter / @fbhughes

Cereal isn’t the same without milk. Luckily, this Twitter user was able to sneak both into the movies. We wonder if it was an early morning matinee or a late-night film? Either way, great snack choice.

Netflix Officially Cast The Role Of Selena Quintanilla And ‘Twilight’ Fans Will Be Thrilled

Netflix has officially selected a Latina to keep the legacy of Tejano music legend, Selena Quintanilla, alive. For its highly anticipated show “Selena: The Series,” the big-time streaming platform has tapped Christian Serratos, AKA Rosita Espinosa of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” series.

Twenty-four years after her tragic death Selena is, once again, being brought back to life on the screen.

Little information has been released by Netflix about the series, but Serratos casting will undoubtedly launch quite a bit of chatter.

christianserratos/ Instagram

The series, which was created with the participation of the Quintanilla family and announced by Netflix last December, has already garnered quite a bit of anticipation online. Back in 1997, the casting process for the singer had the Latino community astir for months until it was finally revealed that then-dancer, singer and actress Jennifer Lopez (still known as a triple threat for her moves, voice and acting chops) had earned the role. The Boricua’s casting caused quite the controversy primarily because she was not Mexican. This time around, Netflix kept the controversy in mind while conducting casting. In a recent interview with NBC News, Moisés Zamora– who is the head writer and one of the executive producers for the show– explained how crucial it was for him to ensure Mexican- identity was strongly included in the show.

“I associated her with my family and being Mexican in America,” he told the outlet at the time while highlighting how the younger singer was shaped by her identity of being a woman of Mexican heritage who also grew up in Corpus Christi while speaking English.

For the latest portrayal of Selena, the executive producer was involved in the casting of Serratos, a Latina of both Mexican and Italian descent.

Serratos knows all about breathing life into deceased characters.

AMC

For four seasons she has raged against the undead in “The Walk Dead” and in her earlier career played Angela Webber, friend to Bella Swan lover of vampires, in Twilight.

According to outlets, it’s unclear how the series will tackle Quintanilla’s vocals.

Back when Lopez took her turn as the singer, she was made to lip-sync to Quintanilla’s vocals. We’re pretty sure that if Netflix doesn’t decide to do the same, they’ll be in good hands because Serratos voice is banging. She even sings “Baila Esta Cumbia” in this compilation!

So far fans of Selena are on board with the news.

While buzz online hasn’t quite ramped up, we’re pretty sure once news of the casting catches on Latina Twitter will be doing the washing machine for days.

And it appears Serratos has the Selena Fan Club seal of approval.

And it’s no wonder why! Serratos cuts a pretty uncanny resemblance to the Tejano beauty.

Of course, while most of the reactions to Serratos casting have been positive the TWD club is a bit worried.

Okay TBH it feels like a worthy sacrifice.

Like literally people are bummed.

Pero… like I said! Serratos as Selena will totally be worth it.

(Jeeze… wonder if she’ll die by zombie attack?)

But there is a silver lining to the upset.

If fans of “The Walking Dead” are this bummed over possibly losing Serratos, that means she must be pretty damn good at taking on great roles. So here’s to Serratos and her new role! Hopefully, for TWD fans she’ll be able to juggle both… if not bidi bidi bom bom.
