There’s A ‘Simpsons’ Version Of ‘America’ From West Side Story Featuring AOC And Her Squad

Donald Trump and his recent strikes against The Squad have officially gotten the attention of the “The Simpsons.”

In a new clip featured in the Fox animated series, set to return next month on Sept. 29, Trump agonizes over Democratic congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib in a musical rant. The episode comes after a summer of attacks by Trump on the freshman congresswoman whom he recently said should go back to the “totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came.”

The fun clip features Trump and AOC squaring off in a political musical rendition of the West Side Story classic “America.”

The short clip features Trump as he broods over our collapsing economy.

Picking up a picture of the democratic congresswoman, Trump sings a miserable rendition of the beloved Broadway classic.

“They shouldn’t be in America / No one but me in America / No taxes for me in America / This is my natural hair-ica,” he sings to the tune of “America,” he grumbles while signing a song that originally spoke of the struggles immigrants endure in the United States.

Of course, in true Simpsons style, it doesn’t take long for the animated versions of the congresswomen to leap from the picture and strike back.

The Simpsons/ FOX

“Your love life makes us heave,” an animated version of Ocasio-Cortez sings before the group launches into a line that can at best be pretty on point.“You’re Boris Johnson without the class / Can’t wait to see you behind prison glass,” they sing.

The group of congresswoman delivers a few more classic zingers to the president as they give chase to him around the White House. “Your nose is right up Putin’s a** / We say it’s time to impeach you fast,” are just a few more lines from the episode.

Eventually, the song morphs into a bizarre new number of “Can You Can Can?”

The Simpsons / Fox

Soon enough, Trump is surrounded by animated singing versions of Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, and Elizabeth Warren. It doesn’t take long for the president to realize he can’t keep up with the Democratic presidential hopefuls and collapses right on the lawn of the White House.

It’s not much of a comparison to the classic lyrics once sung by Rita Moreno but we’re here for the drag.

The parody is a reminder that AOC and her fellow congresswomen are proving to be a welcome distraction for Trump as he evades rising problems such as our steeply declining economy and virulent trade wars.

The two politicians continue to hit back at each other on a regular basis on Twitter. For some reason, AOC seems to really kid under the skin of the president of the United States’s skin. This is despite the fact that our senate holds 99 other senators for him to focus his attention on. True to what we’ve seen before, something about powerful women of color with strong voices really does irk our sorry president.

Puerto Rico Is Planning To Vote On U.S. Statehood Once Again And Here’s Why So Many Are Against The Idea

Puerto Rican’s are no stranger to referendums. Since 1967, they’ve had five chances to make their opinions known on U.S. statehood and each and every time, their voice hasn’t been listened to. Congress has failed to take up the issue after each referendum and local leaders are often guilty of using the referendum simply to drudge up support for their candidates.

But this upcoming referendum is different in that it comes at a crossroads for Puerto Rican politics. The island has been plagued by natural disasters, political scandals, and unprecedented hate crimes. Even Bad Bunny is letting his thoughts out on the referendum and many others have lots to say on the issue.

For the first time in the island’s history, the referendum will ask a single question: Should Puerto Rico be immediately admitted as a U.S. state?

On Saturday, Puerto Rico’s pro-statehood Republican governor, Wanda Vázquez, announced yet another vote on the question (the sixth since 1967 and the third since 2012). It’s a move that comes amid growing frustration with the island’s territorial government and its relationship with the mainland.

However, it’s a question that also outraged the island’s independence supporters and members of the main opposition Popular Democratic Party – which supports the status quo.

But it’s a gamble that members of the governor’s pro-statehood party are confident will pay off given that Puerto Rico has struggled to obtain federal funds for hurricanes Irma and Maria, a string of recent strong earthquakes and the coronavirus pandemic amid growing complaints that the island does not receive fair and equal treatment.

“Our people will have the opportunity once and for all to define our future,” Vázquez said. “It’s never too late to be treated as equals.”

The upcoming referendum is just the recent in a long line of previously failed ones.

In the past, voters have been asked more than one question and presented with various options, including independence or continuing with the current territorial status – but none of them have ever been as direct as the upcoming one scheduled for the November 3 general election.

However, many on the island see the referendum as little more than a political move by the governor’s New Progressive Party to get voters out on Nov 3 – to boost her party’s candidates.

The New Progressive Party has been rattled with scandal after scandal and many are ready for change.

The past few years have not been good for the party – or the island for that matter. A string of devastating hurricanes, a severe debt crisis, ongoing corruption scandals that even forced a pro-statehood governor to resign, earthquakes, and now a global pandemic – have all led to challenging times in Puerto Rico. To some observers, the idea seems to be: Let’s dangle the illusion of a yes or no statehood referendum (nonbinding) that is already dead on arrival?

Many also feel that Gov. Vasquez is not truly authorized to make such a decision since she was never actually elected to the office. Instead, she became governor after Ricardo Rosselló was forced to resign following massive protests.

Meanwhile, the Republican government on the island doesn’t even have the support of the Republican-led federal government. The Trump administration’s blunt response was basically, “The first priority for all Puerto Rico leaders should be getting their financial house in order.”

This coming November, there will be plenty of incentive to vote “no” and punish the Vázquez administration. Even prominent figures such as Bad Bunny are jumping into the fray against her leadership.

What would statehood mean for Puerto Rico?

Statehood would award Puerto Rico two senators and five representatives, but it’s unlikely a Republican-controlled Congress would acknowledge the referendum because Puerto Rico tends to favor Democrats.

Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens but cannot vote in U.S. presidential elections. And while the island is exempt from the U.S. federal income tax, it still pays Social Security and Medicare and local taxes and receives less federal funding than U.S. states. Many believe the island’s territorial status has contributed to its struggle to recover from the hurricanes and earthquakes, as well as worsened its economic crisis, largely caused by decades of heavy borrowing and the elimination of federal tax incentives.

The Lizzie McGuire Cast Reunited For A Table Read

Back at it!

Another Disney reunion occurred this week and it included your one true favorites Lizzie McGuire, Miranda, and Gordo.

On Monday, Hillary Duff shared a 44 minute “Lizzie McGuire” reunion featuring one of the series’ most memorable moments.

In a caption to her Instagram post, Duff shared that she had virtually reconnected with her former costars for an online table read of the series’ “Between a Rock and a Bra Place!” episode. According to People magazine, the episode was aired on the Disney Channel 19 years ago.

“LIZZIE MCGUIRE retro table read!” Duff wrote in a caption for the clip. “Some fun for you this Monday! Hope you guys have fun watching this! We could not stop laughing reading lines from tween us…this is the first time we were all “together-ish” in almost 18 years! This week marks the 19th anniversary of this episode ‘Between a Rock and a Bra Place!’ Do excuse our delayed singing…we will be taking singing lessons as a group to work on our craft!!”

The reunion included some of your favorite Lizzie McGuire characters.

Joining in on the fun was Adam Lamberg (AKA Gordo), Lalaine, (Lizzie’s BFF Miranda), Jake Thomas (Matt McGuire), Robert Carradine (Sam McGuire), Hallie Todd (Jo McGuire), Ashlie Brillault (Kate) and Davida Williams (Claire).

“I truly believe that this show was magical, and everyone that was a part of it created that … and made this show mean so much to so many people,” Duff said following the table read. “I think we’re all very grateful to have experienced that.”

If you don’t remember, the”Between a Rock and a Bra Place!” episode was the one in which Lizzie and Miranda wanted “a BRA!!”

Disney Channel

The episode followed Lizzie and Miranda attempting to be cool by convincing their parents to order them bras while Gordo helped Lizzie’s younger brother Matt enter a contest to become Jet Li’s sidekick in a movie.

No doubt the highlight of this reunion was getting to see Lelaine back in action!

Her role as Mexican-American Miranda Sanchez might not have been the titular lead of “Lizzie McGuire” but she was undoubtedly the character with the most heart, wit, and lessons. Here’s a look at the character who brought all the realness to Disney channel’s best show.

1. That time she dealt with body dysmorphia.

Disney Channel

In the episode “Inner Beauty” Miranda struggles with her self-image after seeing a photo of herself. The whole episode ended up sending Miranda into an unhealthy tailspin so bad that she…

2. She tried to deal with her body dysmorphia by not eating and explained why.

Disney Channel

After wanting to make sure that she looked super skinny for a music video project Gordo was shooting,  Miranda started skipping meals and nearly passed out during dance practice. After a sit down with her friends, Miranda spoke honestly about why she felt the way she did.

3. The time she didn’t  get a Valentine’s Day card.

Disney Channel

And gave the commercial holiday a great big middle finger and stuck out her tongue.

4. That time she predicted the future of all mean “cool kids.”

Disney Channel

It was a bit harsh, but the moment, like most MIranda moments, did it’s job in making sure Lizzie always remembered where they were headed.

5. When she is reminded by Gordo that being grown-up is not that great.

Disney Channel

Literally, never a truer word has been spoken. Because meanwhile the rest of us have to deal with taxes.

6. That time she was smarter than her art teacher

Disney Channel

I mean really how many times have you sat in a class and wondered why you had to do something instead of dream about N’Sync.

7. And that time she totally nailed the feelings that come with growing up.

Disney Channel

Yes, girl yes. This is the definition of growing up and out of your adolescence.

8. When she did spider braids before girls at Coachella.

Disney Channel

And rocked so many other hair styles you wouldn’t dare to pull off. Remember her pom pom phase?

9. When she was all like “I’m stronger than the person you think I am.”

Disney Channel

It’s hard being friends with someone who always gets to take center stage of your life, we get it Miranda. This episode of her sticking up for herself to her own BFF was so real.

10. When her side eye was so on point with Gordo.

Disney Channel

Miranda’s side eye game was actually always so on point with Gordo. Those two had a rocky relationship and Miranda was always around to remind him to chill it.

11. When she was the best friend ever for building her friend up.

Disney Channel

Even if it was the cheesiest chant ever and Lizzie acted selfish at times, Miranda was a great friend.

12. That time when Lizzie and Gordo went to Italy and she passed to chill in Mexico.

Fans of Miranda were super bummed to find Miranda nixed from the “Lizzie McGuire Movie” but we got when we learned that she’d ditched the show to be with her family in Mexico.

Disney Channel

13. When Lizzie overreacted about getting a bra and Miranda was like “chillll.”

Disney Channel

That time, Lizzie decided that in order to be popular she needed a bra was the most important episode ever. Mostly because Miranda was mortified to find her friend was so shallow.

14. And that time when she was this honest with Lizzie about her outfit.

Disney Channel

Every friend needs a BFF who will tell her truth about her outfit choice. While this one was forced upon Lizzie on a very important day, Miranda was not afraid to get real.

15. When, LBR, she brought better moves to that “Play” music video than Lizzie.

Disney Channel

There’s a reason why they put Miranda in the front for this dance scene. And it has absolutely everything to do with Lizzie’s average moves ( sorry Lizzie!)

16. When she was too cool to hurt the environment

Disney Channel

That faux leather and fur coat made the funky combination look just so damn good.

17. When she did the grunge look better than Lizzie

Disney Channel

Lizzie’s style was always cute and fashion forward but Miranda always pushed the status-quo with her edge.

18. That time she was all about the rebelde.

Disney Channel

Can you deny that this “rebel” shit was not the ultimate look of the series? Didn’t think so.

19. That time she freaked out after getting a B in class.

Disney Channel

Miranda is every child of immigrants who did not come all of this way for their kid to get a B in class. Gordo might have been the self-proclaimed group of the squad’s trio but Miranda was undoubtedly the cool beans school star Gordo wanted to be.

20. The times her sense of humor was always better than everyone else.

Disney Channel

“Where is Lizzie? She never misses lunch. It’s her favorite class!”
