23 Things That Make Shakira The Reina Of It All

It is hard to imagine that Shakira started her music career 28 years ago, in 1990, when she was barely 13 years old. In the almost three decades that followed, Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll has built a name for herself as an entertainment powerhouse. She first gained fame in her native Colombia and in the Spanish-speaking world in the mid 1990s, and then expanded her brand to the rest of the world. She has a huge global following in countries as diverse as Germany and Indonesia. This woman born in 1977 in Barranquilla has changed the shape of pop culture and smashed the glass-ceiling of Latina women in the global music market.

These are some of the reasons why Shakira keeps reigning supreme. Long live, nuestra reina.

1. She is not afraid of change: she morphs but keeps her essence

Shakira doesn’t allow anyone to lock her into real or metaphorical cages. She started her career as an Alanis Morrissette look-alike and has developed into a fierce representative of female sensuality and Latino talent.

2. She supports young talent, mostly Latino

One of the reasons for her success is how she finds and supports talent. For example, she got little known designer Angel Treviño to design the posters of her most recent tour.

3. And she supports indigenous causes

She supports all sorts of causes that defend those who are most vulnerable. For example, she has advocated for the rights of the forgotten Wayuu people.

4. Her hips definitely don’t lie. She honors her heritage through dance

She is proud of her Latin American and Lebanese heritage, and she incorporates ancient moves into her modern choreographies.

Oh la la! We can see her here with hubby Pique, a world-famous soccer player, picking a coveted white truffle. Yum on all accounts.

She is perhaps one of the last heirs to the likes of Nina Simone and Janis Joplin. She is an amazing musician. Let’s remember her first few albums and the way she struck those chords. She is absolutely hypnotic on stage and there is not an ounce of prefabricated BS when she slays in a concert.

11. She collaborates with the best Colombian talent

One of the ways in which she keeps current is working with fellow Colombians such as Maluma, who has taken the lead of Colombian musicians in the world.

She plays numerous instruments and is just an amazing musician in her own right. She is not a plastic, mass-produced brand: she is a true artist. I mean, look at her owning those drums.

14. Hard work, dedication.

Shakira knows that the only way to achieve success is hard work. She trains hard and her hips always tell the truth… Being a pop star requires discipline.

Just like Madonna, Shakira has remained viable as a business and current as an artist for many, many years. Very few artists, male or female, can say that. In the 1990s she sold millions of CDs and today she is one of the most successful artist on streaming platforms. Technology changes but Shakira’s popularity just keeps growing.

17. She hangs with world leaders

She has liaised with world leaders such as Canadian hottie Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to fight for human rights across the world. They would make beautiful babies in a parallel universe eh? She is a businesswoman and professional advocate who is heard wherever she goes.

18. And she was BFF with Gabo

Her friendship with late Gabriel Garcia Marquez is famous. The two most famous Colombians in the world found in each other inspiration and camaraderie. She must miss him. One can only imagine the amazing conversations these two must have had.

19. She loves her fans and lets them know it

Can you imagine the joy of this fan who sent Shakira this cartoonish artwork only to see the artist share it on her Insta? Shakira knows that she would be no one without her fans, and she lets them know how thankful she is to them.

20. She is the definition of mainstream, in and out of Latino markets

Shakira not only caters for the Latino market, but has become a celebrity in every corner of the planet with projects such as Disney’s blockbuster Zootopia, where she gave voice to Gazelle, a sexy pop star. Besides being a great musician, Shakira is a savvy businesswoman who seems to take all the right decisions even if they seem risky at first.

21. She has a pet piggy

Look at that cute little porcine friend. The piggy appeared in the video for “Chantaje” and Shakira organized an online poll to find it a name. Cosita hermosa!

22. Family comes first. Primero los suyos.

Shakira is not shy to share cute moments with her parents, who have supported her music career right from the beginning. True to Latino family values, Shakira loves her family and lets the world know it.

Many celebrities go blah blah blah when it comes to causes that require their social clout. But Shakira is not someone who habla de dientes pa fuera: she has built an ample network among non-for-profit organizations. She is one of the faces for UNICEF, the United Nations body in charge of advocating for children.

Tens Years After Its World Cup Debut, Shakira’s ‘Waka Waka’ Video Crosses 2.5 Billion Views On YouTube

Sony Music

It’s been ten years since Shakira released “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” but the gifts for the song keep on giving.

At the time of its release, the song by the Colombian singer-songwriter peaked at number one on record charts of fifteen different countries. Ten years later, Shakira and her fans are celebrating the news on how the “Waka Waka” video just crossed 2.5 billion views on YouTube.

The singer shared the news with her fans on Instagram and Twitter.

The “Magia” singer wrote in a tweet “You guys really are amazing. Thank you!”

Shakira released the beloved song during the inauguration of FIFA World Cup which was held in South Africa in 2010.

At the time, the song was announced as the official 2010 FIFA World Cup Song. Shakira wrote and produced the song with the help of her previous collaborator, American record producer John Hill and the South African Afro-fusion band, Freshlyground. The singer had been inspired by the words “waka waka” used in the song from “Zangaléwa,” a 1986 ballad by a Cameroonian band called Golden Sounds. The song, “Zangaléwa” had been a hit across Africa as well as Colombia.

Jennifer Lopez and Shakira owned the Super Bowl halftime show this year. The Puerto Rican and Colombian singers cranked up the sexy and talent with a halftime show we are still talking about.

J.Lo shared some behind-the-scene moments from her Super Bowl halftime show.

J.Lo and Shakira’s Super Bowl halftime show brought in 103 million viewers. This was a 4 percent increase from the previous year, which was Maroon 5. Three million more people enjoyed the show and it caused more than a thousand people to call and complain because many complained that it was too sexual.

But everyone is obsessing over the last video in the post.

In the final video, J.Lo and Shakira are going over the choreography. The move they are trying to nail is the booty shake and Shakira asks J.Lo how she does it. Fortunately, you can hear what they say and J.Lo responds.

“I do it with my knees,” J.Lo told Shakira before laughing. “When you shake your knees, your butt goes. My mother taught me that when I was four.”

Her former costar from “Hustlers” had to comment and quote J.Lo.

We hope that this is something that J.Lo taught the women he worked with on the movie. It is pretty solid advice for good booty shaking. Let’s face it, we all know that J.Lo’s booty-shaking is a move she does time and time again. She does it because she is good at it and people like to see it. Now we know how she does it.

People are living for this content.

Lol. Honestly, this isn’t surprising. Anything we ever wanted to know, we asked our parents. Our parents are usually just really fun and there is the openness with our parents when it comes to things in the home. It is a fun, safe bubble where we all let ourselves be ourselves.

There was some confusion because Shakira is known for her dancing.

In J.Lo’s defense, booty-shaking is completely different than shaking your hips. It requires a different kind of movement in your body. Hips and booty move differently and J.Lo might also need advice from Shakira on how to shake her hips.

The post is bringing memories back for everyone about the halftime show that shook the NFL world.

More than 1,000 people complained to the FCC claiming that the show was overly sexual. The claims sparked fierce debate on social media about the merits of the claims and the visuals of the performance. The debate was split with people arguing that those complaining where policing brown bodies.

However, the most obvious thing people are doing is learning a new move for the end of quarantine.

The end of the quarantine is everything that they have all wanted to celebrate for a long time. Thankfully, J.Lo gave us a chance to learn something new while still social distancing and self-isolating.
