Rosario Dawson Didn’t Hold Back In Her Late Show With Stephen Colbert Appearance

THE LATE SHOW WITH STEPHEN COLBERT / CBS

Rosario Dawson recently joined “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” to talk about a number of things, from her love life to her role in the Marvel universe.

First on the list of topics was Dawson’s connection to Prince. The 37-year-old recounted the time her mother embarrassed her in front of The Purple One, calling him an “alien.”

Totally a mom thing to do, embarrassing you in front of one of one of the greatest musical icons ever.

Though she was horrified, Dawson’s mom meant it as a compliment, as in Prince is so talented he’s got to be from another planet. Things turned out for the best, however, as Prince actually ended up hanging out till the next day and even made them pancakes. Not a bad story.

Colbert then brought up Dawson’s recent love connection with comedian Eric Andre.

Colbert brought up the skepticism people had when Andre and Dawson first went public with their romance.

Chance the Rapper actually called up Dawson to find out if it was a prank, to which she replied, “That’s my man.”

To prove they were actually an item, Andre insisted on taking tongue-touching photos. Dawson who is a 37, called out Andre for being “such a millennial” when it came to social media PDA.

Being the boss that she is, Dawson agreed to prove to the world they were together.

I think we have to touch tongues bb because people think this is a prank. ???

In case you’re wondering, they’re still very much together. Dawson went on to praise Andre for how healthy he actually is. After a recent medical emergency, Andre got Dawson into legit meditation, eating healthier, and even journaling, saying, “he’s got me taking care of myself.” Andre even took care of Dawson when she had to wear a diaper after the surgery, to which both Colbert and Dawson agreed, “that is love.”

The conversation then turned to what Dawson thought her role would entail in the Marvel universe.

Dawson, who plays Claire Temple in multiple Netflix-Marvel originals – “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist,” and “The Defenders,” originally thought she was going to get some kind of amazing superpower for her role, but that didn’t pan out like she thought. Her character is a nurse, but as Dawson informed the audience, her superpower is, “my superpower is being an awesome human, with great resources, who uses them and tools…”

“…That’s a real hero and heroine.”

Cory Booker Admits To Writing Poetry For Novia Rosario Dawson And The Way He Gushes About Her Is Making Hearts Explode

In case you missed it, Democratic presidential candidate, Cory Booker, and Puerto Rican actress Rosario Dawson are in love. After months of rumors, Dawson confirmed this month that the two are dating. A TMZ reporter asked if she saw a wedding in their future, to which she gave the best response saying, “I have no idea. I am just so grateful to be with someone that I respect and love and admire so much.”

Cory Booker has had very cute things to say about his novia.

Before Dawson confirmed their relationship, Booker confessed on the radio talk show “Breakfast Club” that he was dating someone “really special” and that she was his “boo.” Oh, and that she would make a “great First Lady” someday. 😍 Dios mio.

Just this weekend, Booker was backstage with MSNBC with Ari Melber when he confessed that he also writes love poems for Dawson.

MSNBC

It all started when MSNBC Chief Legal Correspondent Ari Melber was sharing rap lyrics from Senator Booker’s home state of New Jersey. At one point, Melber jokingly said, “When you get to be a famous rapper, you don’t even need to rhyme anymore.”

“I’m going to say something I’m about to regret,” Booker responds.

MSNBC

“I may or might not write things to my girlfriend,” Booker admitted in the behind-the-scenes interview. “I think sometimes I get a creative license from my hip hop love. I will write a poem that sort of rhymes in the way that hip hop folks can get away with.”

Booker also gave us some freestyling backstage.

Maybe running for president is where he will best serve his nation. As for the freestyling, not so much. However, it would be kind of epic to watch him and Bernie Sanders fight it out in a freestyle battle on the debate stage.

E! News first reported sightings of the two on January 8 at a “Dear Evan Hansen” event.

Washington meets Hollywood (not for the first time): Rosario Dawson and Senator Cory Booker were sparking romance rumors after attending #DearEvanHansen together.

Given Dawson’s huge political platform and interests, it’s clear the two have a lot in common.

Or that 2,000 women give birth behind bars every year? Help us start the conversation and create some change.” –The #cut50Team #WillILoseMyDignity#WillSomeoneCare”

The news led to some Booker fans to remind the world of her controversial politics during the 2016 election.

Dawson co-founded Voto Latino, a non-profit organization that seeks to mobilize Latino voters and get them registered and represented in our democracy. She also campaigned on the road for Bernie Sanders and then voted for a third-party candidate during the primaries.

But Dawson isn’t changing herself or her ways to become the political girlfriend trope.

@Fantaskatic / Twitter

She’s giving us her annual naked selfies on her birthdays no matter who she’s dating, and we love her for it. Never change, Rosario.

The last few days have been entrenched with rumors that the two are engaged.

The actress spoke at NBC Upfronts annual event, and it was hard not to notice that big diamond ring on her ring finger.

“I would only accept President Cory Booker if he came with first lady Rosario Dawson so,” @epd206 (hopefully) joked on Twitter.

Some people are very excited about possibly having a Puerto Rican as the First Lady.

Are we looking at a Puerto Rican First Lady as an option for 2020? We don’t know, and given how long it took them to share their relationship with the world, it might be awhile until rumors are confirmed or denied.

In the meantime, so many people are just genuinely happy for the couple.

In case you weren’t sure if Booker is worthy, here’s what he told Ellen DeGeneres about Dawson:

“[Rosario] really has this nurturing spirit that has made me more courageous — not just in the love that I project and want to see in our country, but I think in our own personal relationships to love more fearlessly. I’m very, very blessed to be with somebody that makes me a better person.”

This Is The Part Of AOC’s Interview With Stephen Colbert You Should Be Talking About

This Is The Part Of AOC’s Interview With Stephen Colbert You Should Be Talking About

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert / YouTube

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez explained a tax plan so many people are lying about.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was a guest on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to discuss so much about her first month in Congress. While the Congresswoman from New York talked policy and the need for unity, everyone is focusing on one question. At the beginning of the above video, Stephen Colbert asked how much she cared about Democrats telling her and other freshmen Congresspeople to wait their turn when it comes to fighting for certain issued. She replied, “zero.”

Ocasio-Cortez took to social media to call out what she sees as misleading headlines from several media sites.

Here’s the exchange:

Colbert: “On a scale of zero to some, how many f-ks do you give?”

Ocasio-Cortez: “I think it’s, um, zero.”

Ocasio-Cortez tweeted that the coverage of her interview on the show is indicative of the double standard for women and men in politics.

The further you go into the interview, Ocasio-Cortez and Colbert discussed two questions that have been on the minds of millions of Americans. First, the need for public unity among the Democratic Party. Second, her proposed 70 percent marginal tax on the wealthiest of American society to debunk myths surrounding her proposal.

Ocasio-Cortez is not concerned with being seen as divisive as an activist and advocate for her constituents.

“It’s how we chose to interpret events and things like activism and advocacy. If you think activism is inherently divisive, I mean, today is Martin Luther King Day, and people called Martin Luther King divisive in his time,” Ocasio-Cortez told Colbert. “We forget that he was widely unpopular when he was advocating for the Civil Rights Act. I think that what we really need to realize is that social movements are the moral compass and should be the moral compass of our politics.”

Colbert then asked her to explain the 70 percent marginal tax that has been confusing and angering people.

“I think this is something that we often see too with Fox News. It’s like, ‘They want to take all your money.’ When we talk about a 70 percent marginal tax rate, it’s not on all of your income,” Ocasio-Cortez explains. “It’s on your 10 millionth and one dollar. So, after you make $10 million in one year, your dollars after that start to get progressively taxed at a much higher rate.”

According to PolitiFact, during the Eisenhower presidency, between 1953 and 1961, the top marginal tax rate was 91 percent. It is also important to note that the marginal tax rate of the past was aimed at people making far less money than those who will be impacted by Ocasio-Cortez. Basically, if you aren’t making $10 million a year, you won’t see a 70 percent tax on your income under Ocasio-Cortez’s proposed tax plan.

PolitiFact further explains that the proposed tax plan would add $72 billion a year in tax revenue to the U.S. government.

She further broke down the need to increase the tax on the wealthy to benefit the U.S.

Ocascio-Cortez explains that the tax proposal, which won’t impact all the income made by the wealthy, has nothing to do with attacking the rich but making a statement about the kind of society we, as Americans, want to live in. She tells Colbert that we have to answer whether or not we want to live in a society when billionaires live in excess while others work 80-hour weeks without enough money to feed their children.

This tax proposal, as Ocasio-Cortez explains, is nothing new to American society and politics.

“This is not a new idea,” Ocasio-Cortez explains to Colbert. “In fact, people are yelling, ‘She’s a socialist. She wants 70 percent marginal tax rates.’ Under a Republican administration, Dwight Eisenhower, we had 90 percent marginal tax rates.”
